Between the city-states Athens and Sparta, Sparta is superior geographically. To start with, Sparta is superior because of farming. For example, Sparta farmed crops like grapes, olives, barley, and wheat. Another example is Sparta produced broad beans, chickpeas, and lentils. In fact, they had fertile soil. These sports that farming helped their people because it feeds them.one last reason is, the mountains train.an example is, their military could navigate the mountains. Specifically, their military was strong on the mountains because Sparta is surrounded by mountains. In other words, their military was strong and they could work on the mountains like getting over then but no one could get in. These show that the mountains train was one of
He was one of the greatest artists in the history of Sparta. The city-state that was more superior was Sparta because of their geography, daily life, and government. The city-state with the geographic advantage was Sparta.. Doc B states, “Cities tended to be located in valleys between mountains or on coastal plains and dominated the countryside around them.” This is one reason Sparta was feared at war.
Athens v.s Sparta There are many debates about what would you rather live in. The knowledge based Greek city-state of Athens, or the warlike city-state of Sparta. Sparta is better than Athens because they had an amazingly powerful army, they focused more on protecting Greece than trying to take over everything, and most importantly, they had some of the best women’s rights in ancient history.
Sparta had the geographic advantage above Athens. Sparta is better because, according to Document G, “The Eurotas River provided much-needed water, while the nearby plains allowed the ancient Spartans to grow all the food they needed.” Sparta was already provided with enough supplies on their own and didn’t have to trade things with other city-states. Having rivers, mountains, and rivers gave the Ancient Spartans the right environments to grow many things such as figs and wheat, the Ancient Spartans also had enough room to raise cows for meat, milk, and cheese. Another reason why Sparta has the geographic advantage is shown in Document F, which states, “Sparta thus came to control some 8,500 km² of territory making it the largest city state
The city-state that was superior was Athens because of their geography, government, and cultural achievements. Athens had the geographic advantage over Sparta economically, politically, and socially. “As the soil was not conductive to large-scale agricultural programs, Athens turned to trade for its livelihood and mainly, to
As we look back upon the two significant differences in the governmental systems of Sparta and Athens, there are also many other characteristics that distinguish the differences and similarities of these two city states. The difference in land as well as population perceives a relative historical comparison. Sparta lacked land area and was forced to seek other land in the fertile plain of Messenia. Although, if we look at the Athens, we see that they had no issues with plentiful land, as they possessed large and populous territory.
Athens and Sparta are the two famous city-states in Ancient Greece. The Athens was more superior then Sparta. The Athenians were stronger because they had a better geography, government, cultural achievements, and I would rather live in the Athens.
The early development of Greek society was influenced by many societies such as the Egyptians, Phoenicians, and Minoans. For instance, the earliest Greek writing style which was called Linear B was influenced by the Minoan writing style called Linear A. Furthermore, the Greeks not only adopted the Minoans’ writing style but they also used the ship-building and agricultural techniques used by the Egyptians and the Phoenicians. Despite their similarities, the Greeks had their characteristics that distinguished them from the rest. The Greeks were never unified but they did create one of the world’s most remarkable cultural eras.
Athens and Sparta were both city-states in Ancient Greece. A city-state is a small independent country with its own laws and government. Although they were only 150 miles apart, they were very different from one another. They each have their own values, geography, government, economy, education and how they treated women and slaves. If given the chance to go back in time, I would suggest that Greeks settled in Sparta because of their better education, better treatment of women and slaves and better geography.
Introduction Athens and Sparta were two of the largest, most powerful, and most influential cities of Ancient Greece. They may have both been big and historically well revered, but their societies were structured and ruled very differently. This difference is especially true politically speaking. (Athens & Sparta: Democracy vs. Dictatorship, 2016) Sparta was very focused on growing and maintaining a strong army, in efforts to ward off any uprising from their rule over the Helots.
Sparta had the geographical advantage over Athens because they had the fertile valley. lots of ore, and large mountains separating them. First, The fertile valley helped because it is where they planted their food. Another thing that helped was all the ore.and that's because with all of that or they could make big money so that they could trade for food or stuff they don't have.the last reason is because of all the mountains that helped protect from all of the attacks because it would be harder for the attackers to get over the mountain. and harder to aim down on to sparta unlike Athens that doesn't have mountains to protect them so it's easier to attack.
Others may say that Athens is a better city state because it puts the government power in the citizen’s hands, but Sparta has an equally good government because every part of the Spartan government revolved around keeping order. The two kings were put in place so that one could not overrule the other. The assembly made sure that the government went with what the people needed. The ephors made sure that the kings and council stayed in order. The government would keep the same year after year, ensuring that the government would not corrupt itself like the other
The poleis of Athens and Sparta both had similarities and differences to each other, because of this, these poleis make excellent candidates to compare and contrast. For one thing, Athens and Sparta both had starkly different governments, Athens had a government where Athenian land-owning males could voice their opinions, while Sparta had an oligarchy. Athens had one of the best navies for the time period, while Sparta had one of the strongest land forces, the Spartiates. Also, Athens cared more for luxury items than Sparta and Athens pursued knowledge instead of military power, unlike Sparta. Although Sparta and Athens had many differences, they also had some similarities, such as how both poleis had very strong armies.
Sparta the state that is based on pure military and knowledge skills has focused more on preservation rather than celebration this was shown through their buildings, they were simple but very useful these buildings were made by farmers. That is what Sparta is compiled of the most battle ready and toughest farmers. Sparta being considered a state it was not thought of as a city, other states such as Athens had more protection such as a wall, but Sparta was more of a unconstrained land being more open to nature. Spartans had the respect of most people meaning no army dare cross into their land without some deep consideration. Even though their land is a more open area their location being in the laconian region had given them instant defence
Ancient Greece was comprised of small city-states, of which Sparta and Athens were two. Athens was renowned as a center of wisdom and learning. The people of Athens were interested in arts, music, and intellectual pursuits. Sparta, on the other hand, was recognized for its military strength. A Spartan's life was centered on the state, because he lived and died to serve the state. Although the competing city-states of Sparta and Athens were individually different as well as governmentally diverse, they both managed to become dominating powers in Ancient Greece.
The ancient civilization of Greece contained many different city-states; two of these city-states were Sparta and Athens. Sparta and Athens were different in their values, politics, and societies. Sparta was focused on their military, discipline, and to have a strong state. Athens was a democratic state that was peaceful and where women were open to culture and democracy. How do these two city-states differ?
