Once the New World was revealed, several explorers were sent to claim land for the countries they represented. One explorer was Hernando Cortez who was sent by Spain to claim the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan. John Cabot was sent to explore what is now Canada by King Henry VII of England. Another notorious explorer would be Christopher Columbus who initially was the first to actually find the New World. Although explorers come from different countries, they all share a desire to accumulate land and wealth. Hernando Cortez, of Spain, was sent to explore and claim the Aztec Empire. Spain sent Cortez there only after hearing about great treasures supposedly being hidden there. Cortez was given a small expedition of about six hundred men to command
Christopher Columbus and Alvez Nunez Cabeza de Vaca were both explorers for Spain, but under different rulers and different times. The more famous, Christopher Columbus, came before de Vaca’s time. Columbus sailed a series of four voyages between 1492 and 1504 in search for a route to Asia which led accidentally to his discovery of new land inhabited with Indians. Christopher sailed under the Spanish monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella for his journey to the “Indies,” whom he was loyal to by claiming everything in their name. De Vaca , followed in Christopher’s footsteps and journeyed to Hispanionola for Spain’s emperor, Charlves V, the grandson of Ferdinand and Isabella. Both, Columbus and de Vaca composed a series of letters addressing the
Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh, two men who have great accomplishments underneath their belts. First you have Christopher Columbus who was the man to discover the new world and Charles Lindbergh who miraculously traveled across the Atlantic ocean by himself without stopping, both having to conquer insurmountable obstacles. Though they come from different time periods they are still similar in a variety of ways, for example both of them as kids enjoyed their future occupations from the start, Charles thoroughly enjoyed aviation when he was young and Columbus gazed upon the seas as he traveled on merchant ships. Traveled across the Atlantic ocean with different navigation methods and used different ways of transportation to get across.
Hernando Cortés was a lawyer and had family connections, he used those tools to become the colony notary. When Hernando was going to start the travel he first sailed to Hispaniola to find merchant ships for his conquest and then started to travel to the mainland. Hernando Cortés and his army of 508 men arrived at the Aztec empire that was in deep crisis, and he made a note of how weak the empire was and took advantage of that. Hernando and his army fought the natives in what was the largest city in the world; Tenochtitlán. They had began to perform human sacrifice and militarization to keep control of the
During a time when there were many expeditions to the new world, Hernan Cortez was a man who set out to expand Spain’s grasp on newly discovered land. The Governor had scheduled for Cortez to explore the newly discovered Mexico area in a small expedition. Before the discovery of the Americas, the world was thought to be just Africa, Asia, and Europe. Christopher Columbus, an Italian sailing under the spanish flag discovered the Americas in 1492 while trying to make a voyage to Asia. When first arriving they settled in what is now known as “Hispaniola” with hopes of converting the Natives to christian faith. The natives were living on these lands for thousands of years before the explorers came over and invaded their homes. The ways in which the Spanish Explorers viewed these natives was different from the way in which the French viewed them. The spanish were much more harsh and cruel with their thoughts and in their interactions with the natives than the french were. Bartolomé and Ragueneau both wrote about their experiences and the things they witnessed while in the Americas.
Christopher Columbus and John Smith will always be remembered for their ego in their leadership. For many residence of Virginia, John Smith is considered as a hero. However, recorded documents provide varying evidence on his leadership and life in general. On the other hand, Christopher Columbus is seen as an explorer who encountered the Americans and was able to achieve immorality to satisfy his egos. He took advantage of every opportunity and is considered to be a leader who did not accept no as an answer which enable him to succeed and even come back to influence after a great misfortune. It is however clear that the success of Smith and Columbus as leaders of exploration can be attributed to their egos. Their writings were full of imaginations and fiction and are considered by some historians to be liars about the newly discovered world.

In the 16th century Spaniards Herman Cortes and Christopher Columbus set out on endeavoring journeys in search of new worlds. Christopher Columbus encountered, in the Caribbean islands, a group of extremely simplistic Native Americans. Herman Cortes however encountered a much more advanced Native American group in Meso America; we formally know this area to be Mexico. In my essay I will be comparing and contrasting several aspects between both of these Native American Civilizations including sophistication, technology, housing, weapons, religion and their reaction to the Spaniards. Letters written by Columbus and Cortes will be used to make these comparisons.
Christopher Columbus and John Smith are both similar in the fact that they made their kin very proud and became famous of their accounts of unexplored territory. Though their ideas of what to do with what they encountered was different, they both were very brave men. They were different in a way though. Columbus believed that there was a great value in terms of wealth to the natural resources he saw on the islands and he used a different rhetoric to explain it. John Smith saw economic growth possibilities in the fertile New England area that had a vast amount of natural resources, he also valued different commodities than Columbus.

However, Pizarro for politically reason had Atahuallpa kidnap for ransom in the fear of an uprising. The ransom was paid but Pizarro still had Atahuallpa executed, with cynicism of Pizarro leadership De Soto return to Spain in 1536 before his proceeding on his own expedition to Florida in 1538.
