The science fiction genre leaves room for authors to become creative in their writing styles. This genre allows for an author’s imaginations to come alive on the pages and tell a story in any way they wish. One would think storylines brought about by two different authors would not have very many similarities. For the authors of The Hunger Games and Divergent this is not the case; therefore, each novel compares to one another in multiple ways. From the deepened meanings to the simple stories the characters undergo the similarities are substantial.
The country of Panem in the novel The Hunger Games is a direct parallel to Nazi Germany in many ways. The Hunger Games is set in a dark dystopian country called Panem. The country is divided into 12 districts, many of which the inhabitants are living in poverty. Panem resembles Nazi Germany in many ways. The harsh dictatorship in which Panem is under is a strong example of this parallel. The president of Panem is meant to represent Adolf Hitler by portraying his inhumane attributes. Each district is meant to choose one boy and one girl to battle to the death, a competition referred to as The Hunger Games. This is a gruesome tradition that serves as a reminder to the citizens who was in charge. The president watches and celebrates the yearly executions of children. He broadcasts this graphic event to keep his people in fear and in silence. The author uses The Hunger Games to represent the genocide of innocent individuals that took place under Hitler’s Nazi regime. The games convey the ruthlessness of the dictator and reminds readers terrible things like this story have happened in the past. The society in which the characters live in allowed for thorough character development. The main character in The Hunger Games is a strong female lead named Katniss Everdeen. She is self-sacrificing and brave when it comes to her friends and family. To protect her sister, she enters the games in which she is likely to die. Her experience and skills allow her to survive the arena to return to her family in district 12. Katniss is overwhelmingly intelligent and uses this to her advantage to outsmart her opponents and eventually the president of Panem.
Furthermore, Katniss develops
Both the Hunger Games and The Road are two books set in the same type of environment of being poor, explored choices of humans facing a test of humanity, impacted by human modernization and technology and emotional power. We will explore the different themes and compare the logic between the pages.
While both The Hunger Games and Divergent are dystopian series with female leads that rebel and lose family, in Divergent the characters have more choice in their destiny while in the Hunger Games they live in fear of their future.
The common thread between these two novels is the author’s use of an oppressive conditions in the setting. In The Hunger Games, the oppressors are seen from the outside looking in. This is really shown in the character, Katniss Everdeen, and her struggle to escape this environment. However, in Bradbury’s work, the reader sees what it is like to be the oppressor. He spins the story in such a way that all appears normal in this exact area, however there are clearly problems on the fringe of this environment. This is a great example of viewpoint, and how the character’s background and societal norms play a large role in determining mood, and developing the
Human interaction, culture and the ways of living within a society can be altered in order for the rehabilitation of humanity to proceed. The Hunger Games is based on what was once North America now called Panem, a nation separated into twelve districts, each functioning individually but all connected and dictated by President Snow. The division between districts within the capitals jurisdiction causes chaos which is created by the hierarchy of power, creating an unstable city and leaving the rich to profit off the poor through oppression. Human behavior and humanity are displayed throughout The Hunger Games but it is predominantly shown between the function and the structure of the actual games, the districts, their cultures, the main character, how she is a feminist in a post-apocalyptic world. The Hunger Games is a complex study of Anthropology.
The Hunger Games and Divergent demonstrate an exaggerated view of the extremes, society has come to, to minimise the drastic effects and repercussions that the present has caused this future dystopian society.
The Hunger Games, Ender's Game, and Star Wars all have many similarities and differences in Their Ordinary World,Call to Adventure and test allies and enemies. You may think that all these books are the same but there not if you look at all of these books and go deeper into what they really mean you would see that they all have one mishen
The Hunger Games is about a teenager named Katniss Everdeen. She lives in a place called Panem. In Panem, there’s the capitol and 12 districts. The president and Capitol citizens live in the capitol. All the districts contribute something to the capitol like food, or power, and in return, the capitol gives the district's security. Katniss lives in district 12. District 12 provides coal but is also the poorest district. Everyone lives off of small animals they can catch. In order to survive, Katniss hunts on illegal land to provide for her mom and her sister, Prim. Every year the Capitol holds an event called the Hunger Games. One of the main element in staying alive in the nation of Panem is power. The totalitarian government of Panem is whom holds all the power over the districts to keep them at the top and alive. Because the Capitol holds most of the country of Panem’s wealth, the government there is able to control the people in all of the districts across Panem. The citizens have no say over their lives or what the government will impose on them. The Hunger Games is the display of the government’s power over the citizens of Panem in order for them to revive.
After watching the movie and reading the book “The Hunger Games”,there is many similarities. There is also similarities
The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner books have many things in common. In The Hunger Games, the characters were put in an arena where there would be consequences for escaping. This is similar to The Maze Runner where the characters are stuck in a glade with no way out. These two book series also have an enemy.
The main character, Katniss, was a girl who lived with her mother and younger sister in a poor coal mining community. The Hunger Games separated their communities into twelve districts, that were categorized by the resource they supplied for the government, also called the Capital. As opposed to Divergent, the Capital took the majority of the resources such as food and clean water, where the districts relied completely on the government for survival. Katniss was forced into the hunger games, a televised fight to the death of the district children, where she gained popularity and eventually inspired the districts to rebel against the government. Though she does fight, she is more of a propaganda icon than a
In Divergent by Veronica Roth and The Hunger Games by Susam Collins they both show the struggles of a possible future in a dystopian universe. Both stories are set in future America after a cold, long war, and show examples of symbolism consequently showing signifance in both their plots. In The Hunger Games the mocking jay is a symbol for hope, freedom, and rebellion. After the reaping the mayors daughter gives Katniss a mocking jay pin to represent her support for her.
“Science fiction is the search for definition of man and his status in the universe which will stand in our advanced but confused state of knowledge, and is characteristically cast in the Gothic or post-Gothic mould.”—Brian W. Aldiss in Trillion Year Spree: the History of Science Fiction (London, 1986). Science fiction is a widely loved category of movies. Some of the most popular science fiction movies were released these past years. The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross, and Divergent directed by Neil Burger are two of them. The Hunger Games is about a 16 year old girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in the dystopian country of Panem. Panem is a fictional nation that consists of 12 districts and the Capitol. Two teens from every District are randomly picked to fight in an all-out death match called The Hunger Games. When her sister is picked out to be in The Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to go
The narration takes place in a post-apocalyptic North America. The nation-state of Panem is separated into twelve districts, the thirteenth of which having been destroyed due to the first rebellion against the Capitol. Katniss hails from a poor coal-mining District 12, where she lives with her mother and younger sister Prim. The Hunger Games is an event held by the Capitol every year, used as a means to both entertain its citizens and to constantly remind the districts of its immense authoritative power. Two tributes, one boy and one girl, are randomly selected from each district by means of a lottery system on Reaping Day. The games reach its end when a single tribute is still alive and proclaimed the winner.
If you have not seen the Hunger Games there may be some confusion on what it is. The Hunger Games were made to keep the districts of Panem from revolting against the capital. The 12 districts made up Panem. Every year the capital holds a annual Hunger Games for all 12 of the districts. One girl and one boy would be picked at random from each district to participate in the Hunger games. Each player must fight to the finish and wipe out one another until there is only one left. At the reaping of the 74th hunger games Primrose Everdeen, Katnisses sister was chosen to be district 12s women tribute. Until Katniss volunteers to take her younger sisters place to be district 12s tribute along with Peeta Mellark district 12s local baker. After
