Ender’s Game Compare and Contrast "Human beings are free except when humanity needs them. Maybe humanity needs you. To do something. Maybe humanity needs me—to find out what you're good for. We might both do despicable things, Ender, but if humankind survives, then we were good tools." Ender struggled his whole life being a Third. Until one day, he realized he was good for something. Finally, after years of searching for the “next” Mazer Rackham, they found Ender Wiggin. Ender accomplished all the challenges the military program threw at him, which eventually led him to be the International Fleet Commander of the war. The book was better than the movie in my opinion, because the movie skipped a lot of scenes which really confused me. Ender and his brother Peter have a very unhealthy relationship. Peter would often attack Ender and challenge him, pushing him around like he was worthless (especially because he was a third). He would take the fighting so seriously, putting Enders life on the line. Death threats, to physical abuse, to verbal abuse, Peter did it …show more content…
More differences than usual. First of all, there was many scenes that were cut from the movie like when Alai kisses Ender and when Ender continuously watches old videos from the formic war. There was definitely confusion while watching the film once scenes were being skipped. In the text, Ender and Stilson get into a fight and Ender ends up injuring him so bad that he dies. In the film, Ender hurts Stilson but not bad enough to kill him. The last major difference noticed from the film and the text is about Peter and his good conscience. In the text, it was mentioned that Peter would get sad at night after hurting his brother. One night he went up to Ender when he thought he was sleeping and explained how he was sorry and that he loved him. In the film, they made Peter sound like he had absolutely no good to him and cut the scene
He will not see his family for a long time. He has to train to become a soldier. Another important quote is “Peter wasn’t accepted, Ender, for the very reasons you hate him,” (Scott,24). This quote is important because it reveals that Peter wasn’t accepted to the schools for the same reasons Ender hates him. These are two important quotes.
Ender had many conflicts in his life. He had conflicts with himself like if he should quit playing the battle games or when he was fighting with Stilson and Peter that threaten Ender. Also, the buggers were a threat or when ender tried to defeat the giant. There should have been a way that these conflicts could be solved so that not only ender, but the other characters could have peace. If conflicts are not solved right away, then someone could get hurt as well as having severe punishments or consequences for their
Some similarities are Ender’s brother, Peter, is mean to him and in the movie, and peter acts the same in the book too (pg 10-11). Also, in the movie and in the book the adults lied and manipulated Ender to kill all of the buggers for them (pg 314). Finally, in
After Ender’s important battle, they tell him that all of it was real and that he had actually defeated the buggers. Ender thinks to himself, “Real. Not a game. Ender’s mind was too tired to cope with it all. They weren’t just points of light in the air, they were real ships that he had fought with and real ships he had destroyed. And a real world that he had blasted into oblivion. He walked through the crowd, dodging their congratulations, ignoring their hands, their words, their rejoicing” (Card 297). When Ender realizes that they have been lying to him and using him as a weapon, he becomes angry. Ender yells at Graff and Mazer, “‘ I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me into it!’” (Card 297). If Ender would have known that he would have killed people and creatures, he would not have gone to battle school in the first place. Death is very hard on Ender and he does not know how he can live with such a burden. Ender’s change in character is due to him being a victim of
One major difference between the text and the movie is the characters. One of the characters that seem to differ quite a bit between the movie and the book is Beowulf. Everyone think of him as the hero that killed the monsters they were terrified of and probably would never think of a “hero” as a liar. In the book it never says anything about him lying about killing Grendel’s mother as it shows in the movie; according to the text “struck it with all the strength he had left, caught her in the neck and cut it through, broke bones and all. Her body fell to the floor…”(521). Another character in Beowulf that differs is Grendel, in the movie Grendel seemed to be able to communicate with the other
In Ender's Game it is never entirely clear who is a friend and who is an enemy. Graff, Anderson, and Rackham, who are undoubtedly Ender's friends, appear to him as enemies and are forced to do so. Peter attempts to befriend Valentine merely to get what he wants, but she never forgets that he is not a real friend.
One of the first and biggest differences is the name of the aliens. In the book, the aliens that they are fighting are called buggers. However, in the movie they are called formics. The second big difference is the fight with Stilson. In the book, Ender fought Stilson outside their school by the buses, and Stilson ended up dying. The movie differs because Ender fights with Stilson
In the book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, it starts with ender in school and being made fun of. After he beats up a bully, he goes home to deal with his brother Peter who also bullies him because Ender is a better specimen than Peter was. But what no one expected was that a representative from the military came to invite Ender to Battle School up in space. Ender accepted and went to live up in Battle School for years to come. At first, Ender was hated for being such a talented student at the age of six but was soon respected after he was able to beat all the other armies with just a bunch of little kids. Ender became the best soldier at Battle School and was moved up to Command School where he would learn to command
The movie changes the alien's name from buggers to formics. The movie also takes out the scene where ender breaks a kids arm and replaces it with a kid throwing up. In the book ender's brother and sister create online profiles with fake names and write political articles which build up a lot of online support but in the movie there is no mention of it. In the book it demonstrates how ender went from 6 two 21 throughout the book but in the movie it starts when he was around 10 and has a period of around 6 months. In the book it shows how isolated ender was but in the movie he makes friends really quickly. In the book gavin hood decides to remove the scene where ender goes to the alien planet to make a new home for humans. Gavin hood replaces this by leaving the audience on a cliff
Have you ever been so angry that you could kill? Maybe not, but that is normal for a character in Ender’s Game. Peter, Ender’s older brother makes many actions that can be explained by resenting Ender, being mad at his parents, and upset with himself and his sister, Valentine. In the book, the main character Ender is recruited to be trained to help fight a battle against the Buggers, who have attacked Earth twice.
Ender is totally on his own and the only respect he gets is through the awesome strategies he is constantly making. He is excelling in his battles and is making great progress in becoming what the military wants from him. Even though all of this is going well for him, he is still hated, and it isolates him. The hatred from his peers makes Ender dive deeper into exactly what the adults want him to, his battle skills. Ender
Ender Wiggin was a timid boy who wanted to have his brother and parents to love him. Prior to joining the Battle School, Ender did not have the belligerence that he would soon possess. He did not want to be like Peter, so
Ender says to both Graff and Mazer “I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me into it!’ He was crying.
The society surrounding Ender was hostile and volatile. This is shown in the very beginning of the book when Ender is playing with
The novel Ender’s Game is written by Orson Schott Card. It is about a young boy who is sent to battle school. He meets friends and makes adversaries. In battle school, out in space, Ender, the young boy is a genius and is taught many tactics to destroy their prime enemy the buggers. He excels in school and battles his way into command school before the required age. There he is told he is battling buggers in simulations or is he? Throughout the novel, Ender is manipulated, bullied, and isolated, which creates many themes and messages. In this novel Ender’s Game the main theme is life is a game. Three characters that best prove this are Ender, Peter, and Bonzo.
