For many years now, countless have debated going to college after high school. Most people think they can live blissful lives and build a good living even if they did not attend college. For several, this may be true to a certain degree. But now several if not all jobs nowadays require a high school diploma and a bachelors’ in some kind of degree. From the start, kids were always told to study hard and acquire good grades so afterward, they could get into great colleges so one could have an amazing life. College is where one’s life genuinely begins.

Even though high school and college have the same purpose, each has a very different way of handling students and their policies. High school is a lot more strict with their rules including dress codes and schedules. However, college professors and deans treat their students more as adults, and expect them to do what they are supposed and act how they are supposed to. Education after high school is a responsibility, not an obligation. You are no longer forced to become educated, but much rather choose to be.

Personal responsibility requires one to finally accept the truth that you are responsible for your own actions. Most of the time when mistakes are made, the initial reaction is to point a finger or find an excuse rather than accept involvement. Personal responsibility is the key to College success because at times, most students find themselves falling short of what lies in between these two. A very important part of life is education. In order to acquire a satisfying education, one should complete high school prior to college. College and high school have two different levels of education, but both are trying to further student’s knowledge. As recent high school graduates and college freshman’s many can clarify similarities and differences between the two. Some obvious similarities are that both have assignments, classrooms, and students. Although college and high school have many differences three of the main ones are the teachers, classes, and responsibilities.

For every students that are preparing to graduate high school, they often wonder if they should attend another 4 years of school for a higher education or not. This is an argument that has been going on in the mind of these individual, just minutes away from graduating high school. For them, there are many different factors that goes into that equation such as personal’s goals, and where they stand on the issues of finances. College are not for everyone, it takes time, dedication and money. There are people who meet these requirement but in truth, they are afraid of not being able to live up to the expectation of the people around them; people who wants to go to college but are unable to afford the expenses; people who are afraid of being in debt all they lives; people who believe they are good enough at sports, thus not wanting to go to college. While these are all valid reasons, recent studies indicated that a better education is worth that risk.

The big question we ask ourselves in high school is “what do I do next?”. Some students choose to go onto higher education, such as college or university. Meanwhile, others choose to go straight to work or join the armed forces. In high school, we are coddled; but when we take our first steps after graduation, we are expected to be independent. Although it is known that attending a higher education facility is difficult, the purpose of higher education is to create a prepared mind.

From the day a child takes their first steps into school, it is ingrained into their mind that they are preparing for high education beyond grade school and high school. Teachers preach over and over how important education is to a student. However, with the price of tuition increasing every year, many consider not obtaining a college degree. Having a college degree in today’s society can allow a person to have more opportunity in the market, earn a better wage, and can create a better outlook on jobs. College degrees are still very important to strive for.

I enrolled for my high school diploma and the program commenced on September 13, 2002. The name of the school is James Madison high school. It is located at 430 Technology Parkway, Norcross, Georgia 30092. Instead of completing the school in a year as scheduled, it took me two years to complete because I could not pay my tuition regularly and on time to receive my lessons as scheduled. Instead of the $980 total tuition cost for the program, I paid over $1400 because of extra charges for ‘past due’ tuition payments. I was greatly encouraged when I finally graduated on July 6, 2014 with honors (GPA 3.3) and received a blue Saphir ring and my high school diploma certificate.

Having a good education is the key to becoming successful in life. It is a proven fact. This achievement requires not only graduating from high school, but also from college. Moving from high school to college may be an exciting transition, but it is also a very difficult one. It is a challenge that the student will struggle with and eventually adjust to over time. Although there are many differences between high school and college, one should not think that they are tow completely different worlds. They have their similarities, too.
