There are many times in entertainment history that the movie is better than the book. Books are well detailed, spread out, and are successful if the author is good. But movies are inspired and adapted to bring a much more compelling story. In movies, actors and directors constantly are inspired to expand upon the story, yet also bring emotions that the books don't always capture. Therefore, if done correctly, the movie should be creatively adapted from the original book
Firstly, movies can be adapted creatively to fix some of the original's weaknesses. Jurassic Park is an example of this. In the film, the characters are more developed – making us (the audience) feel more sympathetic for them. In books, words are presented to read, but in movies, real human beings bring the story to life in their interpreted way. In a sense, the final, final script of Jurassic Park was the movie. For another example for how Jurassic Park was better in its movie form – the grandfather who created the park isn't killed in the movie. In the book, the author makes John Hammond (the grandfather) seem forgetful and thoughtless; while in the movie, the grandfather who created the park for his grandchildren, can live to redeem himself for another day. So, in movies that had creatively been adapted, it changes and enhances the story's themes and helps bring the story up positively – where the book fell short.

In the Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the movie is creatively adapted from the book. While in the book, Walter has random daydreams and a nagging wife, the movie decides to flip that. In the movie, Walter's daydreams become reality, he grows confident, and throughout the movie – he searches for his wife. The movie successfully took the original idea and gave it
Comparing the book to the movie you can clearly tell what certain things are different. For example, Sydelle Pulaski worked for Mr. Westing in the movie but only talked over the intercom. This not only caused a lot of drama but more depth to the plot. Also, Crow didn’t go to jail but they did talk about most of the consequences of her going to jail. This made a little bit more serious and emotional instead of just letting it go.
I like the book better than the movie. I like the book better because I could decide what a scene would look like. For example, in the book, it describes True Son. It says, “The boy wore a brand-new calico hunting shirt. It covered the boy’s upper parts and halfway down his leggings. His hair was black and his face and arms brown as an Indian, but you couldn’t mistake the English cast of his features.” I could make up in my mind how I wanted True Son to look. In the movie, I saw what was on the screen, and couldn’t make the scene look how I wanted it
his meal. The man recognized the tail and shot the monkey, so he could retrieve
The movie version and short story version of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” are very different. The plot of the short story is bland and unclear. The last sentence of the short story, “Then, with that faint, fleeting smile playing around his lips, he faced the firing squad; erect and motionless, proud and disdainful, Walter Mitty the Undefeated, inscrutable to the last.”, ends in a daydream leaving the reader feeling confused as to what should happen next. This proves how the author doesn't really give a clear ending to the short story. On the other hand, the movie had a clear ending and conclusion. The movie ends with Walter going on a date with Sherrill (which he liked), that ultimately lead him to do something adventurous which ends his terrible daydreams. As you can tell the movie has a clear ending and solution to the problem. The movie really exaggerates his bland life and boring job. For example, Walter says in the movie “I haven't really been anywhere noteworthy or mentionable.” The movie also had more action, but the movie was longer so that’s to be expected. Overall
"The book is the movie that takes place in the mind. That's why we go to the movies and say the book is better."-Paulo Coelho I completely agree with this quote, the setting plot and characters can be completely different from the book to the movie. Most of the time ruining the story .The book Freak the Mighty and its movie The Mighty are very different in various ways.

The secret life of Walter Mitty written in 1939 by James Thuber and the film adaption the secret life of Walter Mitty directed by Norman Mclean, is a story that both center on a man ‘’Walter Mitty,’’ a man who constantly daydreams to escape the harsh reality he lives in. While both the movie and short story focus on Walter himself, they both portray different aspects of the conflict, setting, and the characters in general. One similarity between the conflict both in the short story and the film, is that they portray Walter as a shy and unconfident man. Even though Walter is different in the story and the movie, confidence is what appears to be Walter’s weakness. However, with the conflict in the short story, Walter and his wife Mrs. Mitty clearly have issues that cannot be resolved.
Behind every great movie, comes a storyline that is derived from a book however, most of the books to the movies have a great number of deviations. The screenwriters and other staff members to include the director come up with these deviations to enhance the plot in the attempt to make it a more interesting film to which in turn can make a better profit. The majority of differences that is found in films main objective is to enhance the mind. For example, when a scene has the ability to get a particular feeling out of a viewer, it is imperative to be able to understand the reasons for those feelings. The dialog and the visual effects of a scene sets a tone that differs from that of the book that it was taken from. Also, screen writers and
Essay on "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty": The film and short story, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," have been heavily influenced by critics. The story follows the life of Walter Mitty, a man trapped in a monotonous and boring existence. He escapes reality through his daydreams, which inspire him to break out of his comfort zone and do things he would normally be too scared to do. The film also focuses on the theme of refusing to give in and becoming someone you're not, a message that has been criticized by reviewers. The story has also received criticism for its unbalanced portrayal of imagination and reality, which may have been influenced by the critics.
Although Walter Mitty is sought to be an average, middle-aged man, he goes through periods of time escaping reality through fantasies. In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, James Thurber creates Walter as an insecure husband who is degraded by his own wife. Whenever Walter feels mortified and like a failure, he falls into deep fantasies where he is portrayed as a hero who always ends up saving the day. Through the depiction of elaborate fantasies, Thurber reveals how escaping reality allows Mitty to combat the adequacy he feels in his real life. One of the major reasons Walter Mitty has severe daydreams is because his wife degrades everything he does.
If it has the same title surely it can’t be a different story, right? The movie should be respectful and pay homage to the original work. Funnily enough, after reading the book and watching the movie, they could not be more different. There may be people who agree with my opinions, but there may be people who are fans of the actors from the movie, fans of the author or people that like to complain about Hollywood, who would like to see how details were manipulated in the movie versus in the book.
"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" appears to be a simple story of old Walter Mitty going on a trip into town with his controlling wife, Mrs. Mitty. Walter is incompetent at many things and forgets things easily. His imagination is what makes him special. The author, Thurber, tells the story in omniscient, third-person point of view. “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” sees escape through fantasy as a significant element of inner balance .
Normally, when a movie is made about a story in a book the two stories are not exactly the same. The movie is adjusted by adding small details or leaving out some parts in order to make the story more
Written by James Thurber, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, is the story of Walter Mitty’s day in the city daydreaming of many scenarios of him being a hero and having power and fame. Between each of his daydreams, he is interrupted repeatedly by the real life in a rude fashion by his wife and other characters in the city, ending his daydreams. In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, many interpret that many of the supporting characters look down on Walter Mitty. In his daydreams, Mr. Mitty is seen as being superior to others and well respected by people, showing him to be dominant over all other characters both in his daydreams and the real life.
The whole story depicts how Walter changed from a man who knows what he wants but lacks the drive and determination to a man who brings courage to bear challenges in life. In addition, the choice of the background song which is Space Oddity sung by David Bowie suits well with the theme of the movie as it is also a song about being courage and going to unknown with harmonious tone. Overall, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a good inspirational movie that is easy to understand. Personally, I would like to recommend this movie to the people who are lack of determination and spirit so that they can go beyond far from what themselves are at this
