With the exception of fleeting moments of satisfaction, the denizens of the working world seem to inhabit a world in which happiness is task based-- success is only a brief gulp of air in an unending relay race. Considering this, one encounters a recurring query-- if people are unhappy working, why do they attempt to act as though they are not? In his answer, “How to Do What You Love,” Paul Graham dissects the myths of the modern worker and delves into the mechanics of manufacturing a fulfilling work life. Using a delightfully straightforward and simplistic tone, Graham’s knowledge of his audience-- young people-- proves to be the driving force behind his rhetoric.
In this economy people have a really hard time deciding on type of the car they should buy. I recently had the same problem when I was deciding if I should get something big and more comfortable or something smaller and that wouldn’t use as much gas. In this paper I will write about pros and cons on purchasing a car or a SUV. The type of car and SUV I will write about are Nissan Sentra and Nissan pathfinder. “Who are you and what are you doing here?” A question we all have asked ourselves. Also, the name of a speech given by a professor, named Mark Edmunson. Throughout this verbalization he explicates that people don’t genuinely go after what they optate and what makes them ecstatic, but having paramount figures in their lives tell you what you should value. They tell you what is right and wrong, but it’s mostly how they feel predicted off their own tastes, which does not benefit you. Edmunson explains how people have an idea of what they want to be because of the money that occupation makes, but later they ascertain that they want to do something else. But if they wanted to do it they could, they would just have to push through it; in the cessation, it wouldn’t be something they would relish.
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. “ Those words, spoken by Confucius, represent the goal of not only mine, but many others when it comes to finding your true calling. The voyage to find your purpose in life can be quite difficult. Often times this journey proves too challenging and forces an individual to give up all together and instead settle for something easier to obtain and inferior to their original goal. This can commonly lead to feelings of unfulfillment and regret in the choices you have made. It’s not until you find your true calling that you go from thinking about your job as something that you have to do to something that you love doing.
As I started to read the required material for the first week in the book. It stated that if you are looking to make a lot of money human services is not the career of choice. I started to think, people who make six figure are not happy because they decided on a career basic on the salary. In life it is all about happiness, don’t get me mislead money plays a big part in everything. Friendship is a bond that is created between two people who care for each other. Everyone, at least once in life, used to have a best friend. One day my grandpa Amilcar saw me sad and told me that I could trust him. What is more important, is that he said that he was like my second dad because he loves me as his own son. As a result, we started developing a closer relationship. Now, he is always looking for me to spend some time together. For this reason, I can say that one of my best friend is my grandpa. He is a very interesting friend with many characteristics that are worth mentioning. In contrast, my grandpa Amilcar is an average-looking man that has a unique personality and enjoys interesting hobbies.
In his article, A Life Beyond ‘Do What You Love’, Gordon Marino discusses his conferences with his students about figuring out what their love to do is. Many times Marino comes across students who are doing what they need to do to pass through life, not what they want to do. “Many of them are used to delivering papers at 5 a.m., slinging shingles all day or loading trucks all night.They are accustomed to doing whatever they need to do to help out their families.” (Marino 2) Throughout the article, Marino uses an anecdote of his life and how his father had a job he detested just so he could send his children to college. “...father turned necessity into a virtue, or that taking the best care you can of your family is really a form of self-service.”

Anyone who is familiar with our generation knows that our generation is extremely different from our parents’ generation. Thus, creates a gap between the two generations, and has been acknowledged by many sociologists. Aside from today’s young people inability to accomplish the millstones of becoming an adult, there is lot more differences between this generation and the older generation.
