Beowulf was written in the 6th century in Scandinavia by an Unknown author. Although, written many years before our time presents quite a few ancient cultures that are applied to modern society. Beowulf being a great piece of Old English poems during an Anglo Saxon era are no different to modern cultures. In Beowulf you’ll notice a great amount of drinking, entertainment, reputation through violence, and the society’s loyal relationship with their leaders. The 6th centuries such as Beowulf share very similar cultures or habits to modern society. The first noticeable similarity in Beowulf is drinking. King Hrothgar built a Heorot to accommodate many guests to all sorts of events whether it be welcoming a new guest or in celebration of victories are always accompanied by drinking alcohol of some sort. The Heorot is basically a grand bar to serve alcohol just like in modern society we have many pubs or bars to accommodate people with their celebrations. In Beowulf they are in the Heorot, just as much as modern society in pubs or bars having a drink. Just as thousands of years ago, present in modern society we celebrate birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, engagements, holidays, and accomplishments with drinking. Entertainment thousands of years ago were enjoyed just as much as in modern society.
