Attendance at UC Merced is very different in comparison to my old high school. Over at my old high school, you were only allowed to miss one hundred and ten days during your four years. If you exceeded the number of allowed absences, you didn’t graduate. As for UC Merced, you can leave class without giving an explanation. It makes sense because you are not obligated to attend college, it’s your choice, and therefore you must make wise choices. Some high school students might not like attending certain classes because they just don’t find them interesting, unfortunately they have no choice but to be there. So you kind of have to understand there situation, but that is no excuse to not get the job done, if they have to be there, they might as
From what I have been through, my current high school experience has not been meeting my expectations. After speaking with friends and parents, I believe that Archbishop Mitty High School can provide the experience that I am seeking. One aspect I am looking for is a larger campus, school community and a safer environment. I feel that the size and location of Archbishop Mitty will help enhance my learning experience. Something else I am looking for in my new high school experience is more school spirit and camaraderie. I have attended many sports events at Archbishop Mitty and I have thoroughly enjoyed the enthusiasm and spirit of the environment. One last reason is that I am looking for a school that can provide a larger class selection with
United States History, or U.S. History for short, is a course that explores the history of the Americas and how they were formed to come out the way they are today. At Clackamas High School, students have the option to take regular US History as well as Advanced Placement U.S. History (APUSH). Although the two classes are similar in content, the rigor and depth of information differ immensely between the two courses.
Although I went to Golden West Community College and Rancho Alamitos High School, they both have differences in camaraderie, campus aesthetics, and how it’s functionally ran. Golden West Community College is more difficult in building fellowship whereas Rancho Alamitos High School is more open to comradeship. Golden West is a larger campus and more funded, unlike Rancho Alamitos which is less funded and has a smaller campus. Also, Rancho insists in following rules, being told what to do. On the other hand, Golden West expects you to be responsible, not being told what to do. Golden West is a learning environment in which you think through and apply what you’ve learned; however, Rancho Alamitos is a teaching environment in which you acquire
When comparing Westover High School and Darton State College, the differences should be very stark. Westover is obviously just a public high school, while Darton is for those who seek higher learning. However, these two learning facilities actually have many more similarities than one would think.
Saint John's Military School and Stevens High School are both very similar, yet very different. They both have multiple periods with different teachers, standardized tests, and both use similar teaching techniques; however, at St. John’s Military School we don’t go home at the end of the day, and we observe a military structure. Stevens High School is more civilian focused because everyone goes home at the end of the day.
If children who have moved to a new school in the same state had to choose their favorite school, then some mixed reviews will occur. Some of these children may prefer their previous school while the others may prefer the new one. If asked to develop a list of similarities and differences between the schools, then, as a result, various children will say that the two schools are similar. Now apply this same scenario to a group of children who have moved to schools in a different state, the children would say that the two schools are like night and day. This is true in the case of Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Ridgeview High School in Orange Park, Florida. A handful of people who believe this to be untrue. These people believe that regardless of location, two schools
“Wilmington said they justified their ridiculous actions by saying our teachers would understand us missing class, but every teacher is different. Some teachers will not accept any absences no matter the circumstances, this was definitely not an exception,” said Dickerson.
Getting the ability to interview one of my past teachers was an awesome experience. I had the luxury of talking to one of my former high school teachers and Student Council advisor Tessa Gargano. We have a great reputation together and basically know each other like the backs of our hands.
The program of studies for Fairmont High School and the program of studies for the University of Florida differ from each other in many ways. One of the differences is that the University of Florida is more specific and shows the exact classes you should take and when you should take them for each semester for 4 years of college. Whereas the Fairmont’s program of study is more of just a guideline for what classes you should take that will help lead you in the right direction for your selected major. Another difference is that for the classes on the University of Florida program of study are mostly all related to your chosen major, but the classes on Fairmont’s program of study has all the required classes for graduation, then you get to choose the electives and some other classes in a certain subject. The main difference between the program of studies is that the one for the University of Florida is more specific and planned out, than Fairmont’s program of studies.
In “’A’ Is For Absent,” Chris Piper argues that students’ absences should not be reflected in their final grades. Piper writes about his experience with what he considers an unfair attendance policy. He did well on tests and projects, however, due to his numerous absences he received a low final grade. He writes that unlike in a job, where attendance is mandatory, in college it’s a choice of a paying student. Piper also writes that when standardized test scores are evaluated, attendance of preparatory courses is not considered towards those scores. He urges instructors to put aside the reasons they have for implementing attendance policies and grade students solely on performance. Although Piper presents a good written argument, I believe that his reasons are not valid. Students who do not consistently attend classes should not be graded in the same way as those who do because it creates a fair environment, it increases learning, and most importantly, it builds discipline.
Many people endure three years of middle school and four years of high school. It is an eventful time for children between 11 to 18 years old. During the adolescent years there are hormonal changes, environmental changes and emotional developmental gains. Middle school is the beginning of transitioning towards independence under the constant eye of adults. During high school they are challenged with real-world challenges that help them transition into adulthood. The behaviors of these individuals change as the factors change around them. For every person, the experience of high school or middle school may be different. Either way, both have the same goal of wanting the student to succeed and evolve. Even so, the similarities and differences vary. Middle school and high school are alike in the areas of receiving an education, socializing with others, and having teachers while different in areas of maturity, difficulty in work, and independence.
The similarities in education between high school and KSAU-HS includes teaching method, the usage of technology, the curriculum. The first similarity between high school and KSAU-HS is teaching method. High school teachers use the same way of teaching that KSAU-HS professor use it. For example, the teachers in high school teach the students by giving them quizzes to test their understanding the same as KSAU-HS professor. The second similarity which is the usage of technology between high school and KSAU-HS is the same. The learning material in KSAU-HS is like the leaning material in high school. For example, the students use smart boards and computers in KSAU-HS and in high school. Finally, the curriculum between high school and KSAU-HS is
Since, this class is unique it is important to attend every session. It is stated in the syllabus that an absence of a student can change the dynamic of the group, as well as disappoint those that participate in the program. The outside students experienced this a few weeks ago when the prison went on lockdown. A couple of the inside students were not able to attend class due to the lockdown. The dynamic of the class was different without those students. On September 20th, I missed class with the inside students. I was surprised when I returned, how many inside students said they missed me in class. It was refreshing to see that they care if we attend class.
While studying or even registering for a class presents a challenge to some college students, the greatest obstacle remains, going to class. Attending college is supposed to signify a new found freedom to make many important choices regarding education without high school mandatory attendance policies. However, students everywhere are coming to the staggering realization that college is not too different from high school. Teachers still take class roll and students are still expected to be at every class on time. What next, hall monitors in the hall? The time has come for action to be taken. Colleges must abolish mandatory student attendance policies for several reasons to be further discussed.
A prerequisite to success in any in any endeavor is "showing up", and classes are no exception. If you're not showing up to class, you're forfeiting every opportunity provided to you in the classroom.
