Choosing the “perfect” college to attend, may be one of the hardest decisions a teenager will ever have to make in their lifetime. There are many factors that one must consider in order to make the right choice. This decision is very difficult because various schools bring many different pros and cons to the table. Does the college have the sport one wants to play? Does the college have many different clubs one can join? There is also one of the major questions one has to ask themselves, do I want to live here for most of the year for the next four, if not more, years of my life? Arizona State University is located in Phoenix, Arizona where it is a very dry desert climate that receives little to no rain each year. The high temperature can reach between “65 degrees Fahrenheit in January to 104 degrees Fahrenheit in July” (rrsWeather.com). The coldest month in Phoenix is January “when the average temperature overnight is 43.4°F.” (rrsWeather.com). Phoenix’s climate compares to Arcata, California where Humboldt State University, because Arcata receives much more rainfall than Phoenix and its average highs and lows are very different. A big school or small, public or private, urban or rural; these are just a few of the many difficult deciding factors I faced during my college selection. At the height of my selection process, I had applied to ten schools ranging across all those factors. I was completely unsure of what I wanted to do with my life yet and had no idea what type of school I wanted. My mind wasn’t set enough on the future and I was too worried about getting through high school and working my full-time job. As it got closer to spring, I had to start making some decisions. Ultimately, I narrowed my deciding process to three factors to specifically analyze to make the right decision. Beginning with reputation, followed by student life, and lastly the financial cost to attend.
