Comparing the book to the movie you can clearly tell what certain things are different. For example, Sydelle Pulaski worked for Mr. Westing in the movie but only talked over the intercom. This not only caused a lot of drama but more depth to the plot. Also, Crow didn’t go to jail but they did talk about most of the consequences of her going to jail. This made a little bit more serious and emotional instead of just letting it go.

The first difference is the point of view. In the movie, the story is in Turtle’s point of view which makes it harder to understand the whole story. The book is in 3rd person point of view. Although the book is in 3rd person, it still has thoughts from the characters. The movie only has thoughts from Turtle and that makes it hard to understand.

In Roll of Thunder,Hear my cry there are various events. The book and the movie though do not share the same similarities. As an example the movie might have the important events instead of the least important ones. The movie also didn't have the same placing of events like the book did. On the other hand, you can see the actions of the characters in the movie, which might help you process the way they act, however with the book the author can use what he thinks and try to give people a general idea of everything. Even though Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is about a family very different from my own, I identify with the main character, Cassie, because we are similar in some ways and I admire her. Just like Cassie’s mom, my mom was a teacher, and I have close relationships with my siblings. These similarities help me put myself in Cassie’s place. I admire her because she is brave and fights for her rights and what she believes in. She always sticks up for herself. For example, when the white kids’ school bus purposely splashes Cassie and her siblings, they dig a ditch and the bus gets stuck in the mud. Cassie always sticks up for Little Man, her younger brother. She tells her mom about the poor quality books that upset Little Man, and she comforts him when she is upset. The third noticeable difference is a character name change from the book to the movie; Matthew Teran in the book is Matthew Terrell in the movie and he ends up being murdered in the book whereas at the end of the movie he’s running for mayor. A fourth noticeable difference is the pier scene. In the book Albright and Easy meet at the Santa Monica pier and in the movie it is the Malibu pier. And the last most noticeable difference between the book and the movie is that Mouse knows Daphne Monet or shall we call her by her real name Ruby Hanks; however, in the movie the audience never finds that out. In the movie the only true thing you get to know about Daphne is that she is both black and white. Therefore, due to the many differences between the book and the movie it is confusing to the audience since it is almost like dealing with two different stories because of the plot inconsistencies.

The novel allows us to use our imagination more than the movie does. For example, in the book we could imagine how we thought the people and surrounding would look and in the movie we saw what someone else thought they looked. From what I have read and watched in the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, the movie is different compared to the novel because of several reasons. First, the events of the novel and the movie do not happen in the same order. For example, the beginning of the movie was not the same as the beginning of the novel. Instead of starting the movie at the beginning of the novel it started in the middle. Next, the novel has more detail then the movie.

The majority of the people in this community are sharecroppers, who are greatly dependent on plantation farming. The Logan family is fortunate because they have a piece of land of their own, so unlike other black sharecroppers they do not have to be dependent on the whites. However, due to the sharp decrease in the price of the cotton crop the family have to work hard to keep it in their hands, whilst also providing food in order for them to survive. Even though the movie has visuals that comprehend to more people the book can express emotions and feelings. Movie can not truly explain emotions and feelings through lighting and music. Whereas a book can explain those exact emotions and feelings from those very moment meaning, mood and tone but also things running through their characters

The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.

One example is there wasn’t a secret room in the greenhouse in the book were Lina and Doon hid from the guards. Another difference is in the book they don’t find and use Doon’s dad’s machine to get through the tunnel to the opening. One really important difference is that in the movie the way out is much more complicated and long. These differences were important because the secret room in the greenhouse helped them hide from the guards and not get caught. Doon’s dad’s machine is an important difference because it tells us that he was trying to escape with Lina’s dad. The way out in the movie was more complicated is important because it adds more action in the movie and makes the movie
