Shakespeare is a better writer than Anthony Horowitz, in many ways it's an unfair comparison, Anthony Horowitz often writes for a younger audience. whereas Shakespeare wrote for everyone, the nobles sitting in the grand seats called the gods, the london poor who could pay less and stand, the highly educated people who could barely read. however the two writers do have one thing in common, like Shakespeare Horowitz can adapt his style for a different audience, such as, sir aurther conan doyle is dead, so too is ian fleming, they created Sherlock and james bond respectively, so what do you do if u want a new Sherlock Holmes story or james bond adventure, you ank anthony horowitz, the same is true of Shakespeare , if audiences wanted a glory tale
Many directors choose to make many different decisions when producing their version of Hamlet. Every actor portrays the character Hamlet in several ways making each version almost a new story. Mel Gibson's 1990 version and the 2009 David Tennant films are very different in style, scene omissions and several other aspects.
Abstract: The debate over the legitimacy of the authorship of Shakespearean works has been disputed for centuries. While many scholars have held beliefs that Shakespeare's works have been written by figures such as Christopher Marlowe, Francis Bacon, William Stanley, and others, the most heated debate today is between William Shakespeare and Edward DeVere, the Earl of Oxford. Each side of this debate has many followers, the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true author, and the Oxfordians who believe that true credit should go to DeVere. My paper, far from being a complete analysis of the possibilities of Shakespearean authorship, attempts to summarize and rationalize the
In 1564, a man was born by the name of William Shakespeare. He was born to a poor family, was given little education, and had no interaction with sophisticated society. Thirty-eight plays and over 150 sonnets are not attributed to this ignorant man. Those who believe that Shakespeare was the author have no definitive proof but instead point to Hamlet’s declaration: "The play’s the thing(Satchell 71)." The true author, however, lies hidden behind he name of Shakespeare. Edward de Vere the premier Earl of Oxford is not only considered a great poet in history, but he may also be the great playwright who concocted the sonnets and plays which are now attributed to William Shakespeare of Stratford, England.
Many Elizabethan bedsides were haunted from “the terrors of the night”. Back then their ghosts were nothing like the pasty blobs we call ghosts now. Theirs were quite gruesome. Ghostly visitations were claimed to have been very unpleasant. Not only this, but they claimed it cast them into a state of spiritual confusion.
Shakespeare was a playwright from Stratford who had arguably the most influential affect on English literature and the English language. His works are still praised to this day for their divine superiority, however, controversy in exceeding amounts has risen over the dispute of his authorship. This controversy has been the topic of many arguments between differently opinionated scholars who support opposing theories and beliefs (Friedman XV). "A difficult dilemma confronts biographers who tell the story of the glove maker's son from Stratford-on-Avon who is supposed to have become the world's greatest poet and dramatist" (Whalen 3). It may seem odd that this confusion and doubt had come to light in the first place, as the origin of
In this essay I will be arguing that shakespeare should be taught in High School. In my opinion, I think that William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in the 9th grade curriculum should be taught because it relates to teenagers during this part of their life as they are going through love, jealously, and etc.. The three topics of which teenagers begin to experience during the beginning of their High School education. As William Shakespeare once said, “Nice and easy does it; those that run too fast will fall”. Just like 9th graders wanting to experience it all too fast without understanding what Shakespeare is trying to get across to the reader. In this paragraph I will show how shakespeare relates to teenagers feeling at this age. In my other paragraph I will be explaining how William became famous all over the world. My third paragraph with be an counter argument.
However, there are more authors than just Shakespeare that has changed writing. Tons of authors in Shakespeare’s day goes unnoticed and yet they have made just as big of an impact as Shakespeare. Even modern day writers have achieved more than Shakespeare. If one was to boil down Shakespeare’s works down to their plots, one could find those plots anywhere else in literature. His plays are predictable, and because of the way he wrote it in, hard to understand.
In May 1787, the Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was called in 1786 to amend the Articles of Confederation. There were problems with it such as tax, commerce and foreign policy. Rebellion showed that the constitution and central government was too weak.
Considering all of the evidence presented, it seems to be highly unlikely that Shakespeare was capable of writing so many exceptional works. There is barely any documented evidence that shows Shakespeare was even a writer(Hechinger 2012). There should be some sort of evidence that Shakespeare was a writer. It does not make sense that there
Seeing as that Shakespeare is such an incredibly influential writer, one would think that his plays would be very much original. The bizarre rape and disfiguring of Lavinia in Titus Andronicus is striking, but alas is not one that Shakespeare created on his own. This scene, as well as the revenge of baking people into pies, has been seen before in Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Why would Shakespeare not write original content? What is there for him, and his readers, to gain from these similarities? Through exploring both works, it becomes clear that these commonalities serve to highlight the brutality of the crimes committed while shedding light on the methods of revenge. Having the same crimes carried out with the same consequences, Shakespeare uses Metamorphoses to explain that this is how things are done, and the punishment fits the crime.
Since the Shakespearean era, texts and novels have gradually declined in complexity from the deep yet sophisticated standards set by Shakespeare himself. 2014 may in fact experience yet another lyrical genius through the work of a new rapper sensation Matthew James Colwell better known by his stage name 360, writes Aidan Sparshott. What is the difference? Many people believe that rap and the lyrics are the new version redefining the play house but at the same time a minority say both musical categories are not similar. I believe they are wrong. Rap is seen to be sweeping the world by storm replacing the common and classical procedure of theatrical performances. But how could 360 possibly be regarded in some instances as the new Shakespeare
As our world spins and spins, the older the story of Hamlet gets. It’s always interesting to look or read something that is old, because it makes us wonder what it was like and how things were different. Reading stories such as Hamlet, a great story written by William Shakespeare, gives us a large imaginary image of what it could of been like for him, or others. In this topic, I will talk about how our timeline vs. Shakespeare/Hamlet’s timeline and how we are so eager to read a book that shows history.
Twelfth Knight is one of the most popular plays of Shakespeare. Twelfth Night 1996 by Trevor Nunn is a good imitation of Shakespeare’s play. The movie follows the same structure and pattern of the play.
Though William Shakespeare is recognized as one of literature's greatest influences, very little is actually known about him. What we do know about his life comes from registrar records, court records, wills, marriage certificates and his tombstone. Anecdotes and criticisms by his rivals also speak of the famous playwright and suggest that he was indeed a playwright, poet and an actor.
William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe were both writers of the Elizabethan stage, living in the same town of London, at the same time, and they wrote plays while working with the same people. Their strongest similarity was in their work. They both had an innate ability to write about love, great tragedies, comedies, drama and poetry with a similar style called blank verse. Before Marlowe’s time, blank verse was not an accepted verse for drama, but he was able to substitute the regular stresses of earlier blank verses and created a more departed, sincere verse. Shakespeare later followed Marlowe’s example and was able to master the ordinary rhythm of this new style of
