Compare And Contrast The Federalist And Anti-Federalists

The Constitution changed the United States as a whole country. Not only was it a powerful, extremely important document created to represent the United State’s Government in 1788, but it is able to still apply to today’s society. There were two different ruling political groups when the document was created, the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. These two parties had extremely different views on how the country should be run and by who.

The Federalists political party mostly consisted of the upper class people of the United States such as the big farmers, the merchants, and artisans. The Feds wanted the Constitution to be ratified. They supported the Constitution and all of it’s views. The Federalists wanted a change and wanted to shift the power from the States to the central government. However, they didn’t want the central government to be too powerful and wanted the States to continue to retain some of their powers. The party sounds just like they seem, completely against all of the Federalist’s ideas. The Anti-Feds opposed the ratification of the Constitution and believed it would only corrupt the United States more. The main worry of the Anti-Federalists was that the States would lose influence and power with the growth in the central government’s power and decisions. The wanted the State’s to remain in power because local control was important to their view on democracy. The Bill of Rights was completely necessary to the Anti-Feds because they needed to have individual rights and liberties listed for them all. They wanted to keep the Articles of Confederation and enforce them even more, that is the only way they viewed the United States would ever be
