To Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover had been unwilling to deal with the crisis, the Great Depression, and failed to provide a solution. But these failings gave Roosevelt his chance to take action. He came up with new and bold ideas that was exactly what the country needed after the years of inaction by Hoover. For example, when the Stock Market had crashed in 1929, unlike Hoover, FDR recognized the flaws in it straightaway, the flaws that had allowed for the bank failings and the overall crash. And then immediately proposed ideas to do what was possible for a fix.

There were two major leaders in the African American community in the 19th and 20th century, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B Dubois. Washington and Dubois were both leaders in the fight for black equivalence. Washington was perhaps the distinguished black lecturer at the curve of the time period and Dubois was one of the creators of the NAACP. Together they concurred that the objective was maximum contribution by blacks in American society. The variances in their upbringings affected both of their decisions on how that objective could be attained.

What would it be like to be looked down on everywhere you went. Or to not be able to go some places or do some things because of the color of your skin. That’s what African Americans had to go through everyday. Can you imagine? The littlest things in your daily lives had restrictions because of the color of your skin, it’s not right or just. Booker T Washington and W.E.B. DuBois were both men who essentially wanted the same thing. They both wanted equality for black and whites. Booker T. Washington was a little different in comparison to W.E.B. Washington was born a slave. He was born on a small farm in western Virginia. He had a completely different lifestyle than DuBois. W.E.B DuBois was the first African American to earn their Ph. D. He even got it from Harvard! Since they are coming from 2 different worlds it makes their approaches to ending racism very different. It’s not a bad thing, they just have 2 different thoughts about ending racism. They were both strong men who had strong beliefs about racism during the 1900’s and tried to do something about it. Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois both wanted the same thing but went about getting that thing very differently.
Calvin Coolidge was the George Bailey of politics. Both had dreams that were never achieved; Coolidge wished to be a lawyer, George yearned to travel. However, both found themselves going to a higher calling; George took over the legacy of his father and changed his hometown of Bedford Falls through the Bailey Building and Loan, Coolidge becoming a politician and eventually the President, changing the country. Perchance their good character can be attributed to a simpler age. Either way, the two worked to a greater good.
