HOW THE WRITERS OF “TO BUILD A FIRE”, “THE JUNGLE”, “THE FISH” USE REALISM TO PRESENT AND EMPHASIZE A VARIETY OF THEMES IN THEIR STORY

According to Merriam Webster, realism can be defined as a doctrine that universals exist outside the mind; specifically : the conception that an abstract term names an independent and unitary reality. It can also be said to be a theory that objects of sense perception or cognition exist independently of the mind. Various writers have used realism to introduce different things in their write up, some of which are “The Jungle”, “To Build a Fire”, “The Fish”, and many other. The authors of different stories used realism to present and emphasize different themes in their various stories, like that of “The Jungle”, the author used realism to introduce the theme of Poverty. Additionally, the author of “To Build a Fire” also used realism to emphasize the theme of Perseverance. And lastly, Elizabeth Bishop used realism also to emphasize more on the theme of Power in “The Fish”. …show more content…

This can be related to the story of Upton Sinclair, “The Jungle” which was written to enlighten the people of how the workers in the meatpacking industry were treated badly. As said earlier, the achievement of a business can never be accomplished by an individual, the service of skilled members are need, but the meatpacking industry does not realize the fact that the services rendered to them by their workers are very essential, that's why they are treating them badly.
