Sharon Mitchell Period: 7 Compare and Contrast Two most influential Black leaders Booker T. Washington (1856, 1915) and William Edward Burghardt Dubois (1868, 1963), were the two most influential black leaders in their time. They were the sole voices of the Negro race. They were like red and green apple. Much like apples they may both be the same, but they both have different tastes in the direction of the Negro. Washington was born a slave in Franklin County, Virginia. When he was 4 years of age, the Emancipation Proclamation freed him and he went to live with his mother. His mother noticed his desire to learn so she bought him Webster’s “Blue-Black” spelling book which is where he learned his alphabet. Dubois was born in Great Barrington,
