Did the acts of Gandhi and Malcolm X increase or decrease racism?
A paper explaining how the acts of Gandhi and Malcolm X have either made racism worse or has affected how people see it since the peek days of those two. There is enough evidence to support my conclusion and facts to back that up, it is very interesting information on how people have grown and how society has strangely barely changed from the early 1900’s. I want you to think about how America is today and how we are still racist after all these centuries. How after everything Malcolm X, Gandhi and MLK did for this country, this is what Americans still think of all the ethnic groups. In some cases I do believe that there has been a change in how Americans view racism, but it

He became a leader for independence and Hinduism rights. He had thousands of followers and of course non followers. Including the English soldiers that patrol India, they threw Gandhi in jail several times for different things.
Gandhi was always an active member in equality for the Indian people especially after he was denied to keep studying law in England and was kicked off the first class train so he stayed in India and decided to practice hinduism. He lived the rest of his life out telling people to follow the nonviolent disobedience and “on January 30, 1948, he was on one such prayer vigil in New Delhi when he was fatally shot by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu extremist who objected to Gandhi’s tolerance for the Muslims” (History.com Staff).
If Malcolm X was still alive, do you think he would still be making an impact today like he did back then? Malcolm X’s daughter speaks for him as his death date turns 50. He would still be encouraging other to continue the nonviolent revolution that he started. She explains how he would have mixed emotions about the following racism acts in 2018, he would be proud that teens are taking a stand but he would be upset by all the riots and killings happening like they did back when Malcolm first made a change. He would also recognize that while some things have not changed in 50 years, like police brutality,

Scientists did a study on why people are racists and it all comes down to how they were raised and how their brains grew around the environment they were in. To change their mind about racism is to change the culture. Violence also breaks in and it can mess up their control, if your brain feels really passionate about something then as soon as someone tries to tell you different of course you're going to get defensive. You can change and teach people to not be racist and that's exactly what Malcolm X and Gandhi were trying to
MLK was the man that try to overturn the civil right movement that kept african americans equal from the public life. Malcolm X was the one the time that violence escalated when civil right workers use violence at the african americans. And there was africans americans was been beaten by clubs, beaten and tear gas by the white supremacists. Both MLK and Malcolm X was trying to make the white listeners the african american was using nonviolent tactics to chilled the white listeners. And both of MLK and Malcom x is trying to use the nonviolence tactics on the jim crow laws.
Every great man can have the same fight, but not every great man has the same way of fighting it. In the case of Dr. King and Malcolm X they both fought for the civil rights of color American, however their approach of advocacy were/ and are viewed differently. King is viewed and famous for his nonviolent methods. While Malcolm X was viewed for his advocacy of violence against the white individuals. He believed in fighting back physically.
In the 1960’s when events such as the Rosa Parks case and with leaders like King and Malcolm X, the Civil Rights Movement became fairly dominant. However, these sources display several perspectives that imply that King has not always been so influential. Source 2 demonstrates that many African-Americans originally did not support King and his views. For example the text states, ‘Martin Luther King Jr. was not so popular among African-Americans in his day…’. King also shared a rivalry with Malcolm X. It is stated in source 2 that ‘Malcolm X described King as a white man in his thinking, and described black integrationist as bourgeois’. Malcolm X was an extremely powerful leader and the source suggests that King’s ambitions were only shared with a minority of the black race. However, both source 1 and 2 demonstrate that King was to gain most of his praise after his assassination. Source 1 states ‘The odd thing about assassins, Dr. King, is that they think they’ve killed you’. This suggests that regardless of King’s death, his values will still be recognised and supported by many. ‘King… was not popular among African-Americans in his day as he would be in the decades following his assassination’, this text from source 2 also implies that King’s views were going to become popular and he would develop legacy that has lasted to this day. Regardless of the fact that one source was from a positive perspective and the other from a negative, they both have established that the most influential time of King was going to come after his
British rule was tough on many Indians. Gandhi, an Indian born lawyer, believed in freedom and peace for his people. He once experienced racism when he was kicked out of a train in Europe. He changed people’s point of view without breaking the law, which was tough for him. Gandhi made his nonviolent movement work through the use of determination, peaceful civil disobedience, and being a powerful leader.
Mahatma Gandhi: Gandhi was born in Porbandar, India in 1869 and died in 1948. He was western educated, specifically trained in England. Although he was a nationalist, he was anti-modern because he was skeptical to industrialism. He believed in the ideal of satyagraha, the non-tolerance of evil, but also the understanding that violence is not the answer to that evil. He also believed in non-violence. He did not cooperate with anything British, specifically trading with the British, British schooling or products, and even paying taxes to the British. He served as a civil rights activist after being thrown off a train when refusing to move from his seat in first class. He became the leading member of Congress Party in the 1930’s and shortly after participated in the March to Sea for salt during the British imposed salt tax. Every single aspect of Gandhi’s life was peaceful, if the people around him decided to disobey and use violence as a means of getting what they wanted, Gandhi would take it upon himself to fast. He was eventually assassinated by a Hindus
Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. were two big names during the 1950’s and 60’s with both leaders advocating for justice for the black community. Malcolm X and King had similarities as well as differences such as in the methods that they both chose regarding their decision of using violence or nonviolence when confronted with violence, their views on how America would look between black people and whites, and their goals that they wanted to achieve using those methods First off, the tactics that these civil rights leaders were very different and that is one thing that separates both Malcolm and Martin. Malcolm X believed in not using nonviolent tactics when black people were confronted with violence while King believed that the only way that black people could overcome their problems in America was by nonviolent methods weather that be the
Initially, it is true fact that today we hear a lot about Martin Luther King Jr , and not so much about Malcolm X. Martin Luther King Jr. was such a brave, kind person that was fighting for equality, By doing this he was involved with many protest, and in fact lead most of the protest that happened during that time. One thing that can be conclude about Martin Luther King Jr, was he was a peaceful protester, and overall stood for his people and fought for what was right. Rightfully so, Martin Luther King Jr. immensely helped the people that followed him and stood with him, he helped the community gravely and definitely helped the community economically by being standing against a matter that was keeping the colored from actively participating in jobs or even school, he played a huge role, and consequently made a difference. Not only did he make this difference but he made a difference in a peaceful way. He did not want evil to ruin his people and he didn't want violence to come about when he and his people started to protest. Overall Martin Luther King Jr achieved that goal, and made history.
“I Have a Dream” which was delivered in 1963 by Martin Luther King Jr. and “The Ballet or the Bullet” which was delivered in 1964 by Malcolm X are two speeches with similar ideas but different viewpoints. In this time period, African-Americans did not have the same rights as whites. Malcolm X is arguing that African Americans should have the same rights as whites to protect future generations, and the people should do so violently. While MLK is saying the people should do the same but peacefully. Both men, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., had similar goals, but they had different ideas on how to accomplish them; MLK had the better ideas.
Throughout their lives, both Malcolm X and Gandhi had similar and contrasting physical traits. In many ways, how they appeared on the outside shaped the people they were on the inside. Clothing became a device of nonverbal communication. Whether they recognized that themselves or not, that’s how it was. Had they not been colored, they would not have had advocated for justice. Though their personal philosophies drove them in different ways to resolve oppression; one with violence and the other with peace they were motivated just as much. Nonverbal communication helped both men gain support to raise awareness and achieve justice they sought for their ethnic and religious groups.
Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. both had unconditional love for their people. They both wanted to see something great happening in the life of the black people. They both were religious even though their religion was different. The difference between them, Malcolm was a former criminal who believed in discrimination and willing to use violence to achieve his goals and he made every Black Muslim believe that white men are devils and said “Christ wasn’t white. Christ was black. The poor, brainwashed Negro has been made to believe Christ was white to maneuver him into worshiping white men.” In the other hand Dr. King was always against violence, he believed in equal rights and to love peace and sacrifice for it and said “love is somehow the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality.” Then used Saint John’s
The famous Mahatma Gandhi and Malcolm X left behind legacies that still influence the world today. One of the major factors that impacted these two historical figures was religion. The characteristics of Hinduism definitely had an effect on Gandhi’s peaceful and nonviolent views, just like the Islamic religion guided Malcolm X’s beliefs of by any means necessary. Their religious affiliations were not only deciding factors in their lives, but also played a key part in their deaths
Gandhi was very influential and successful in his attempts to make the world a better place. He helped India to gain its independence from Britain(Sheen). Gandhi was very religious. Many people attended prayer meeting held by Gandhi because of this(Sheen). He caused the partition of the subcontinent into Pakistan and India(Cavendish). All in all Gandhi made many things happen for his country as well as all the countries of the world using his power and influence.
Mohandas Gandhi was known in history for nonviolent philosophy with passive resistance. His nick name was ‘mahatma’ this translated to ‘the great souled one’. He was in South Africa before returning to his birth place of India in the 1900s. During World War 1, Gandhi was the main leading person in India’s struggle toward independence from Great Britain. He lived an ascetic lifestyle, which means he only dressed in loincloth and shawl. This was to show his Hindu faith. Gandhi was imprisoned many times because he would not cooperate with authorities. He took many strikes for hunger to show the life of the poorest classes in India, along with other injustices. Gandhi was shot and killed in 1948 by a Hindu fundamentalist.
Gandhi was very different form the other leaders of that era, He was not just a political figure but also a humanitarian and spiritual leader, He was called ‘Mahatma’ which means ‘Great Soul’ .One with an uncanny ability to connect with a common man which is perhaps why his movements had such a good following. One other thing which distinguished Gandhi was the fact that his ideology was not limited to a single community or country. His commandments of non-violence and peace could be applied anywhere in the world and would`ve been just as effective. One such example is of Adul Ghaffar Khan, the North West Frontier had a reputation for violence and aggression, the
