Beauty and the beast
Jeanne-Marie LePrince de Beaumont created “Beauty And The Beast”, or as pronounced in her book “La Belle Et La Bête” and it is basically invisible or unheard of here in America because it was created in France . Everyone ‘s only heard or seen “Beauty And The Beast” created by Disney, because of how recent it is and also because it’s a cartoon created by one of the best video production names in the world. Her version was published in 1756 in Magasin des enfants (Children's Collection), and then it was recreated and changed by Disney in 1991 and produced by Buena vista. The moral of “La Belle Et La Bête” is that one should not judge until you have truly gotten to know

She starts crying and accepts his proposal if he just stays with her, “Alas! I thought I had only a friendship for you, but the grief I now feel convinces me, that I cannot live without you.”(Beaumont). Then the beast is transformed into a handsome prince and they live happily ever after. The Disney version starts with a spoiled, selfish and unkind prince is transformed into a hideous beast by a misleading and beautiful enchantress, “She warned him not to be deceived by appearances, for beauty is found within.”(Beauty And The Beast 1991). If he cannot learn to love another and earn her love also before his 21st birthday the spell will never be broken and he is doomed to remain a beast for the rest of his life. A few years after the spell was placed on him Belle’s father gets lost in the woods near the beast´s castle and he is chased by wolves into the castle to get shelter, where he is captured by the beast and is thrown into the dungeon for being a trespasser. While the father is imprisoned by the beast, Belle is in the village being harassed by the village strongman Gaston who asks her frequently to marry him. Belle soon starts to worry about her father and ends up finding him in the castle where she trades him places. When the beast finally gets her to warm up to him Belle’s father is sick, and he allows her to go save
Both Beasts are willing to do and give anything for beauty and the girl to keep them happy. Although Beast kept beauty hostage, he is gentleman enough to give her, her own space if she does not want anything to do with him: “you alone are mistress here; you need only bid me gone, if my presence is troublesome, and I will immediately withdraw” (LePrince de Beaumont 6). Beast being kind to Beauty is important because the goal is for her to want to stay with him forever. Since he shows compassion and
The fairytale “Beauty and the Beast” by Jeanne-Marie LePrince De Beaumont was produced in France in 1756. The story is about a wealthy merchant with six children, three boys and three girls. With the story’s primary focus on the girls, we learn that the youngest of the daughters, named Beauty, was admired for her kindness and well behaved manners. Due to Beauty being the town favorite, her sisters grew jealous and hated her. When Beauty’s father falls in debt with a Beast, her father sends her off to live with the Beast. In the end, Beauty gets to know the Beast and accepts to be his wife. Although, Beauty and the Beast have their ‘happily ever after’, social and economic complications hindered their relationship.
The story of the Beauty and the Beast is well known amongst all ages. Though the story they portray in the Disney version is much different than what they have portrayed it in France. La Belle et la Bête has been produced twice, once in 1946 and again in 2014. These two movies tell the same story but in very different ways. The perception of this story has changed between the different time periods.
Seger states that in fairy tales "an old woman, a dwarf, a witch, or a wizard helps the hero . . . The hero achieves the goal because of this help, and because the hero is receptive to what this person has to give" (173). Conversely, Beast is helped by the very damsel he imprisons. Belle is a normal woman, not a witch or a wizard; she has no special powers and is not old or dwarfish in any way. Also, Beast is extremely reluctant to accept any help from her. In the Disney version of the story, Belle tries to teach Beast how to control his temper and be more compassionate and loving. Beast is not receptive at all to this help throughout the story, but still manages to defeat the curse left on him by a self revelation. He decides after Belle's departure from his castle to learn to love and be kindhearted. Although her help may have had an impact on his transformation, it was the mere presence of her and his own self conscience that ultimately helped him conquer his relentless curse. This is quite different from what Seger illustrates in her hero myth theory.
The first character to be discussed is Belle, in the original book. An author online even states “The original Beauty and the Beast Story is not what you expect” ( S. Paul). What is unique about Belle in the book is that she is the youngest of six children, which is never shown in the movie. Her father is not an inventor either, but is a very wealthy merchant who loses his fortune. The whole family in the original was forced to move to the country, where they had to live much more simple. Belle is a very special girl though, with very jealous older sisters of her beauty but also the fact that she is able to not be miserable in such a simple lifestyle.
Referring back to fairytales like Beauty and the Beast film which involves the beast who magically got turned into a beast as a disciplining act because of his selfishness. Then a beautiful young women by the name of Belle, got imprisoned in the castle. The beast is very fond of Belle since he first laid eyes on her. During the movie Belle being the catalyst for the Beast’s need of wanting to change. But he distances himself from her because he has two mindsets. Which is a man and the other is a raging beast. The beast is going through trying to
“Beauty and The Beast” is a classic well known romantic Disney movie that depicts the gender role of men and women in society. The film is based upon a smart young female protagonist named Belle who is imprisoned by a self-centered young prince after he has been turned into a beast. They both learn to love each other in the end and throughout the film there are several examples shown portraying the roles of gender. In the film the main characters Gaston and the Beast portray themselves as rude, conceited and more important than the woman even though the main character Belle is a woman whom is considered odd, yet smart, and unrelated to most women in society.
Disney’s Coercive Portray of Man’s Role Towards Woman by The Character of Beast Jeanne-Marie’s Beauty and the Beast and Disney’s popular counterpart both claim for a more profound value than superficial attractiveness through Belle’s romantic story. This is reflected by the character of Beast, which both stories depict as an ugly creature that needs to love and find love by other ways than what appear beautiful to sight. However, Disney represent this character significantly different than in the classic tale, making an ideological difference in the story and certainly transmitting opposite views about the masculine role in a couple relationship. In this Essay, I argue that Disney’s changes to the original character of the Beast in Jeanne-Marie’s tale, demonstrate an oppressive, interested and unequal relation with Belle that may motivate to have this view, and expectation, of men with woman in a relationship; which contrast with Jeanne-Marie’s kind Beast character. This
In the Story of Beauty and the Beast written by Jeanne-Marie LePrince de Beaumont, there was a very rich man with six children, three sons, and three daughters; his daughters were very beautiful, especially the youngest. As a little girl, everyone around her called her “The little Beauty,” as she got older, the name stuck and that is the name that she went by; that made her sisters extremely jealous of her. Beauty, not only known for her pretty looks, she was also known for her kind heart, unlike her sisters. Beauty’s sisters only cared about their riches and the men who wanted to marry them, and many men did because of the girls’ fathers fortune. However, Beauty turned each man down because she thought she was too young and wanted to stay
Belle was kind to the Beast, and then she found her prince. It took courage to look into the eyes of someone that took away everything and see the good.
In Disney’s live-action movie Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson, the creators added many Feminist attributes. Belle is known for being ahead of her time as she walks around the town reading many books; this was because young women and girls were not supposed to read. The creators of this movie included many things to make this movie appeal to young girls and show them how they can do great things. To make the film a more feminist movie the creators changed how Belle dressed, the things Belle liked to do, and how she treated Beast and Gaston.
Belle is offered the choice to either to strip of her clothing for the beast to do what he pleases with her and be set free afterward, or not to and stay there in his broken down castle until the end of her days. This is a very difficult choice for Belle for she is the purest of women, and has much difficulty in doing this. She is also afraid for her life, believing the beast will eat her if she does decide to show herself to him. If she should decide not to reveal herself, the beast would then reveal himself to her, in which she was also terrified of what she might see. After she tries to put herself through the unthinkable and failing, the beast and his valet take belle on a ride through the forest where they stop and talk a while. In this setting of the story, the beast reveals himself to Belle and shows his real self and earns the respect of Belle. After she realized the courage and trust the beast had shown to her, she decides that it is only right to do the same for him. When she appears in front of the beast unclothed, the Tiger crept up and licked the skin off of the young girl and revealed her long fur, as she also was a beast.
Beauty and the Beast was introduced to people late in 1991 and it was far from the only Disney story that showed the true meaning behind love. As June Cummins explains in Romancing the Plot: The Real Beast of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Belle did not go to the Beast to fall in love, but she went to rescue her father who was being held as a prisoner by the Beast. Of course Belle and the Beast did fall in love, but it was the journey that the writer was using as a lesson to both women and men. Certainly, Belle was well educated and she loved to read. Although Belle did not meet a stranger, she was exceedingly careful with her pure heart. Belle was an intelligent woman and Disney made the correct choice of turning a story into a phenomenal lesson to teach a lot of people, but mainly the younger girls and boys. "Beauty and the Beast, with its emphasis on a love relationship and its glorification of couples, is deeply imbued with the romance plot and the gender splitting that such a plot encourages"(Cummins 24). Beauty and the Beast is filled with bravery, heartbreak, and like all Disney movies, love.
Beauty and the Beast was first an animated movie made by Disney in 1991, 26 years later they did a live action remake of it. We have the obvious main characters, Belle and the Beast, but what about the supporting characters? In this film the supporting characters make up most of the movie and are not to be overlooked. It is hard to pick just one character but in this movie Gaston plays a significant role involving Belle, the Beast, Belles dad, and almost every other character.
Twenty-six years ago, children were mystified by the story of a bookworm girl and her journey that found her true love. Beauty and the Beast captured the hearts of many and grew into a staple Disney movie. It follows Belle—a beautiful, but misunderstood young adult. After she found her way to a fantastical castle, her world changed completely. The original movie caused many children and adults to connect and find themselves within the characters. Consequently, they decided to make a live action version of the film a quarter of a century later. Bill Condon, the director of the 2017 film, added dimension to the characters by further explaining their backgrounds. Facts about Belle’s mom and the Beast’s family brought new sides that the 1991
