To begin, in the story Mama Elena was a selfish person. She believed that she needed to do things that benefit her. For instance, the issue of Mama Elena’s family tradition, about the
Last example, she knows to consider the consequence. For illustration, when Lina’s family is eating in the shack, she told the owner, Ulyushka, to eat with them. If Ulyushka take the food, she probably will not tell the NKVD, so they will not get into trouble and that is the brilliant part of her. Secondly, Elena can be characterized as hopeless in multiple ways. First instance, when Jonas is sick, she does not know how to cure him. The narrator said, “Mother rushed out into the snow to beg, leaving me with Jonas” (Sepetys 193). However, Elena has to beg for help, so Jonas can be cured and this action exposes the hopelessness of her. Another instance, she is hopeless because her family does not know when will they see each other and go back to home together. Her family is taken from their house in the late night, and they do not know what they did wrong and what caused this to happen. Furthermore, watching others being killed and wondering when is the ending of this event is like a torment to all of the
Following, we learn that Mama Elena has no milk to feed Tita, which makes Nacha, the family cook - her official caretaker as she replaces Mama Elena. This is important to point out because the initial separation of the two main characters is quite evident; there is no mother-daughter bond that should have been established, Mama Elena doesn’t have time to worry about her, “without having to worry about feeding a newborn baby on top of everything else.” (7) We grow to understand why Tita forms other vital bonds with Nacha, and of course the food that surrounds her daily, helping her not only to grow but acts as an outlet for her emotions. “From that day on, Tita’s domain was the kitchen…this explains the sixth sense Tita developed about everything concerning food.” (7) From the beginning, Tita is given barely any freedom, she is given a purpose, she will not marry anyone until Mama Elena is alive, she is to look after her, which becomes a great conflict when the love of her life, Pedro, is to marry her sister, Rosaura, and not her. Mama Elena wants to hear nothing about Tita’s frustration. Mama Elena herself has lost her true love and because of it is insensitive to Tita’s love with Pedro. The reaction of each woman to her predicament helps explain the opposite characters. Mama Elena lets the loss of her young love turn into hatred for anything but tradition, and
The text from A Streetcar Named Desire and The Glass Menagerie, both written by the renowned author Tennessee Williams, deal with the topics of life's pressures, and the desire to succeed in everything we do. Oftentimes, people place unrealistic expectations upon us and set the bar higher than we can achieve, or even want to reach. People end up developing mechanisms to deal with these stresses and tensions that have been created (Billington 2016). We find other unhealthy habits and vices to supplant the reality we are trying to escape, that hopefully will take away this pain and suffering we are experiencing. In both of these plays, the characters are not able to live in their present realities. Two of the main characters are closely listate.
The outsiders by S.E Hinton and “Nothing Gold can Stay” by Robert Frost.the Outsiders is about two groups that don't get along.Nothing Gold can Stay is about nature and how it doesn't stay forever.
Even though these qualities are praised in this culture, medieval narratives commonly uphold unrealistic virtues of what a perfect woman is. After Lanval vows to keep their love a secret, the queen of the court tempts the knight with her love. She says, "Lanval, I have honored, cherished and loved you much. You may have all my love: just tell me what you desire! I grant you my love and you should be glad to have me" (pp. 1771). Shortly after Lanval rejects her advances, the queen further establishes her ill will towards the good knight by saying, "I well believe that you do not like this kind of pleasure. I have been told often enough that you have no desire for women" (pp. 1771). The importance of these accusations exemplifies the queen's power and influence over Lanval. Although he graciously declines the queen's love, he regrettably reveals his love to the queen in an attempt to prove himself to the court. He says, "And I will tell you one thing; you can be sure that one of her servants, even the very poorest girl, is worth more than you, my lady the Queen, in body, face and beauty, wisdom and goodness" (pp. 1771). The manner which the queen entices Lanval reveals that both power and evil can be easily compared to this woman's actions, showing readers the other side of the coin. The division between these two women illustrates how often this society feeds off of a virgin/ whore dichotomy, branding such women
Robert Frost wrote the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” that’s about how nothing in the world can stay, just how in the book “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. The greasers and socs in “The Outsiders” didn’t get along in the beginning of the book but by the end of the book they got along a lot more than they did in the being. Just how the real world is sometimes we get along and sometimes we don’t.
42nd Street in the 80s seemed like my kind of place. Seedy theatres, porn everywhere and enough flesh to satisfy any craving. It was here that a lot of Grindhouse films made they big debut and Doctor Butcher M.D. is one such film. Originally released under the title Zombi Holocaust, the film was picked up by XXX and recut, re-edited and released as Doctor Butcher M.D. The overall story is exactly the same as the original version, with a few slight differences. Severin Films was kind of enough to release both versions on a beautiful 2-disc Blu-ray package that is crammed full of special features detailing the history of 42nd Street and the two films. If you're a fan of gore, Italian nonsensical schlock and an ample amount of full frontal nudity, this Blu-ray is going to be your ticket to the peepshow. If you don't believe me, read on...
that’s why I’ve been blaming myself for her addiction.” “Stan, we all make mistakes, I’ve done things that I wasn’t proud of, but I’m trying to change all that, so, the past is the past and you have to focus on being a better husband and father to Elizabeth and the kids, if it’s Gods will, she’ll come back to us, we just have to keep praying.” said Pam. “I’m glad you’re here with us.” said Katrina. “Thank you, Elizabeth’s my friend, she’s just like a sister to me.” said Pam. “Elizabeth’s a good woman that’s why I love her.” said Stan. “Yes she is.” “I have so much that I want to tell her, I really miss us being close, when we where kids we were like two peas in a pod and I miss that.” said Katrina. “You can be like that again, when she pulls through.” said Pam. “I just pray that she pulls through.” said Katrina. “She will.” “How long will she have to be here?” ask Melanie. “Until she gets better, when the Doctor come back out, we’ll ask him.” said Katrina. ‘The Doctor said
“Your grandfather didn’t just die Faith, he was murdered. My father put rat poison in his wine that night that our families got together for a dance. I tried so hard to stop him but he locked me up in my room so I couldn’t.” Embry had a shaky voice and a loud cry now. My head swarmed with terrible thoughts that I couldn’t get out of my head. My whole family thought he died of a heart attack. What if my parents really knew the truth and weren’t telling me? Why is Embry going for me and not anybody else? I collapsed to the ground. Lily immediately ran out from the popcorn cart and held me tight. It felt like my world was coming to an end. Embry kept apologizing like it was all her fault.
HOOK. In the novel Of Mice And Men, by John Steinbeck the idea of loneliness, although not specifically stated, is introduced and represented throughout the entire book and can be seen though a great majority of the characters. The author's purpose of doing so was to make the audience comprehend the deviating effects that loneliness and solitary has on certain people in the mid 1930’s. Steinbeck uses the literary devices, foreshadowing and symbolism, to manifest this theme by devising different forms of suspense and helping the reader develop emotional connections with the the characters and their purpose and goals.
First, Stephanie’s is like many other typical teenagers today, no thrive or motivation to move forward in life. Next, her parents take lead into seeking therapy for her because of Stephanie’s substance abuse issue and lack of motivation, which affects the family dynamics in the home. Also, they're at a point where they're just fed up without answers, as to how to help Stephanie. Nonetheless, Stephanie knew deep down inside she needed help as to why she at this pivotal point in her life. Hence, she doesn't want to admit she had some underlying issues, which she cannot explain nor does she want to work towards changing some things in her life being that she afraid or comfortable.
