Citizens are able to take part in government by voting independently on an issue that may have an effect on them. The government would then make decisions depending on which choice is favored by the majority. Therefore, the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few. Democracy focuses on the freedom of every individual. They believe in human rights; freedom of speech; freedom of beliefs; and freedom of choice. Have you ever wondered, how people get power? The allegorical novel Animal Farm written by George Orwell in 1940 mainly talks about the rise and in contrast, the fall of communism. George Orwell uses animals to display how political systems and human behaviors affect the way a society works and behaves.
The novel, Animal Farm, by George Orwell expresses the idea of self-government through the animals. The animals play the role of humans. Because the animals decide that they want to run the farm by themselves, they make up a way of living called Animalism. The Seven Commandments (Animal Farm's Constitution) under which they live are based on these major principles of Animalism. As time passes, the Seven Commandments undergoes subtle changes as the pigs rewrite it to suit their own agenda. The Seven Commandments may be said to be the key to understanding Animal Farm.
Animal Farm by George Orwell is an interesting story that may seem as if it is a story that is meant to be read by a child however, the story withholds much more meaning than what meets the eye. In the book and movie, there is a society that contains many individuals with the beliefs that things should change, but there will be one individual in particular who will end up taking the initiative to follow through with this change while also taking control by telling these individuals what they want to hear, whether it is the truth or not.
Another major similarity between Lord of the Flies and Animal Farm is the way the societies are being run. In Animal Farm, the farm, run by Napoleon, is a totalitarian society. As stated by Old Major, “Remember, comrades, your resolution must never falter. No argument must lead you astray. Never listen when they tell you that Man and the animals have a common interest, that the prosperity of the one is the prosperity of the others. It is all lies. Man serves the interests of no creature except himself. And among us animals let there be perfect unity, perfect comradeship in the struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades.”(Orwell ) This quote shows a totalitarian society that separates the
A democracy is a government by the people, in which the power is vested in the people themselves. The people then elect representatives who conduct their power in a free electoral system. One of the most major conflicts between two of the characters on the farm, was the struggle between Napoleon and Snowball having leadership over the farm. A pig versus pig battle. Eventually leading, to Napoleon getting his comrades to drive snowball out of the farm. His plan worked, which then assumed his power over animal farm.
Animal Farm by George Orwell is a magnificent novel highlighting what power can really do to a person or in the novel’s case an animal. Orwell makes multiple relations to Russia and what went on during the Cold War throughout the course of the novel. He also shadows different forms of government such as communism, capitalism, and totalitarianism by how the farm runs. In Animal Farm Napoleon and Snowball the pig are suddenly thrown into power when the animals throw out Mr. Jones for his poor treatment of them. The animals decide to change how everything runs on the farm which is good in the beginning. As the novel progresses Napoleon becomes greedy with power causing the farm to revert back to its old ways. Animal Farm is an excellent representation

Animal Farm by George Orwell which is an allegory of the Russian Revolution and the film adaptation of George Orwell’s novel 1984, which is set in a futuristic dystopian society, directed by Michael Radford uses Symbolism, foreshadowing and irony to convey the central ideas of power, politics, control, fear and they both also portray the dangers of totalitarianism. 1984 follows one main character (Winston) which shows how the society is being controlled whereas Animal Farm does not follow one character specifically. Though there are differences, Animal Farm and 1984 use the language techniques of symbolism, foreshadowing and irony in very similar ways.
In the novels Brave New World and Animal Farm, the common aspect is the idea of a totalitarian dystopian society. While Animal Farm started out as an attempt to achieve a perfect utopia, and then drifted into a totalitarian dystopia, Brave New World pretends to be a utopia, while hiding the fact that it is actually a totalitarian dystopia the whole time. There is a fine line between a utopia and a totalitarian dystopia.
