Comparing Don 'T Fear The Reaper' By Kansas And Thanatopsis

Death, the only certain thing in life to happen. There are many different ways to react to death and many different feelings towards it. “Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Oyster, “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas and “Thanatopsis” by William Cullen Bryant all illustrat death in their poems and share their feelings about the subject. Although, death may be a common theme between all three poems, they all have different perspectives.

“Don’t Fear The Reaper” is poetry that idealizes death. Throw out the poem it the speaker is the Reaper himself and he tries to persuade the reader not to fear him and to come with him. Some of the persuasion skills used in the poem is repetition where he repeats “don’t fear the reaper” and “come on baby” throw out the whole song. Then he goes on using Romeo and Juliet to compare how the reader and death can be, “together forever” and “we can be like them”. The Reaper talks about how you will be happier with him . At the end the poem the person the Reaper was talking to finally goes with him willingly. …show more content…

It starts off with talking about how fast life goes and how it’s all over in a moment. The poem also compares all human life to being “ dust in the wind” and “just a drop of water in an endless sea”. This emphasises how pointless life is. “Dust in the Wind” is a song that gives off the sense of hopelessness and the unavoidable end will soon come to use
