Live life as your own person with your own thoughts and ideas. Everyone was created with the intention to be different. Whether you are who you would like to be or not, no other human being is like you and you are like no other. Having your own thoughts and ideas can lead to your success and future greatness. Acting like someone else and always begging for their attention can often make you their prisoner. Lenny always had the need for approval from George and that led him to his death. He was a prisoner to him and did all that he could to protect him. Lenny got nothing in return except a bullet in the back of his head. No one needs the approval or attention of others to be great. There are so many great ideas in the world today because …show more content…
We forgive for our own good, not for the people who have hurt us. We should never be held prisoner by the people who hurt us. That is what happens when we choose to not forgive and choose to hold grudges. Being unforgivable soon turns into bitterness. That bitterness will eat at your heart and soul. Being able to forgive does not by any means imply that we are weak. It is actually showing ourselves and others how strong we are. Do not wait to forgive those who have hurt you. If you wait to forgive until you feel the time is right, it will never happen. Simply because there is no “right time.” Remember, forgiving is not easy and never will it be. Yes, it is easy to say “I forgive you.” The hard part of it all is to genuinely mean it. If you become so wrapped up in holding a grudge, all you see it hurt and anger. You are missing what is important. Such as the present and all the joyful happiness that comes along life. The Holocaust was one of the worst things that has ever happened over time. Yet, some people have managed to forgive the horrible crimes that they endured. In The Fault in Our Stars, Hazel at first had a hard time forgiving Peter Van Hoten for being so rude to her and Augustus. He was her favorite author and he completely let her down by being so rude to her. She was very angry but didn’t hold a grudge against him for
Many people would say that forgiving is good for both the forgiver and the forgiven, but do we have the responsibility to forgive? Two articles especially stand out about forgiveness Six Reasons Not to Forgive, Not Yet and It’s for You to Know That You Forgive, an article about Eva Kor’s experience at the concentration camp being a mengele twin and forgiving the Nazi’s. She is a good example that people have the responsibility to forgive , but only when they are ready.
Forgiveness is very important throughout life. If people don't forgive, they are going to be stuck in the past always remembering about the mistake that person did. Forgiving someone can make yourself feel better because you know you forgave that person and there's no negativity between you and that person.
In the 3 pieces Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, and Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim, experiencing hatred causes characters to lie to people they love. In all of the stories, they are manipulated and forced through hatred to lie about who they are, what they are doing, or what something is. Lennie in Of Mice and Men is forced to lie about who he is, Romeo and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet have to lie about their marriage due to a feud, and in Into the Woods, the Baker and his wife lie about beans and what they do to steal from a child. In these 3 pieces, hate impacts love for others by the characters’ experience of hate forcing them to lie to the people they love.
During 1929, the Great Depression became the event that shook America. People lost their jobs, which resulted in unemployment and homelessness. Hobos and “Okies” tried moving to California did not accept the jobless migrations because they feared their opportunities for success would be lost. In Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men several characters experience cruelty because society outcasts them. These characters include Lennie, Candy, and Crooks. Of the three characters, Crooks has the least opportunity for success because he's African-American and handicap.
The characters in Harper Lee's 1960 novel To Kill A Mockingbird, portray acceptance, tolerance and forgiveness through their moral actions towards discriminative situations. Throughout my visual representation I have portrayed visual symbols to reflect upon Lee's southern gothic novel about immoral discrimination and inequality within Western society through the world of Maycomb; a small town situated in Alabama. Lee challenges the audience about the segregation of individuals through the court case of Tom Robinson; an innocent black who is accused of raping and beating a low class girl. Atticus, a well respected lawyer, stands up for the equal treatment and fair trial of Robinson. This pivotal event within the novel, as well as the ongoing
Have you ever felt compassionate towards someone or something? Maybe even had a dream you strived for? In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Steinbeck displays compassion through main character, George Milton, by having him take care of Lennie and being kind to him. George has dreams of being independent and having his own farm. George shares this dream with Lennie who is easily excited about the idea of tending the rabbits. George is happy when he can please Lennie and is nice to him rather than being cruel to him. Compassion is being fully present with someone no matter the circumstances of his or her life. George watches over Lennie, always stays with him even if he is slower and gets into trouble, and George takes care of him.
Although the compact, filthy room attached to the barn doesn’t appear significant, the contents of Crooks’ room illustrates that equality is a fantasy, and no matter what is done to stop discrimination, people continue to be prejudice and alienate others. For example, “On the wall by the window there were pegs on which hung a broken harness in process of being mended…” (66). Crooks, like the harness, is broken having lost his sense of self after repeated acts of racism. He deeply wants to connect to the other men, telling Lennie he would like to play cards and live in the bunkhouse, but can only attempt to mend himself through education and hard work. In addition, “... scattered about the floor were a number of personal possessions;
You have to question whether you are forgiving the person because they are sorry and you are capable of moving forward or you are forgiving them because you are still left with some feeling of attachment and that’s what is holding you back. For example, in the memoir, Jennette continued to forgive her parents particularly because they were her parents and her blood. That got her nowhere. She was left in an endless circle of forgiving yet receiving the same mannerism back. However, once Jeannette decided enough was enough, she moved to New York City, away from her parents, began accomplishing her goals and overall Jeannette became so much more liberated. This example goes to show my point exactly. Forgiving and forgetting will leave you with too many toxic people in your life. You must know when to set an endpoint and cut people out of your life because it will benefit
Lenny often has conflicts with others. This is part of his mental illness. He always depicts the good in people and that tends to circle back to him without his . "Course he ain't mean. But he gets into trouble from time to time" (41). Lenny gets into trouble because he does not know any different. Lenny always sees the good in people and that can hurt him because people take advantage of him. George chooses to stay with Lenny even with his disability. "God almighty, if I was alone I could live so easy" (11). George explains to the reader that he would be much better off Lenny. George does not please Lenny even though he does not have to care for Lenny. I think that George feels it is the right thing to do. The conflicts the characters encounter shape who they
Although Lennie made George's life hard sometimes, Lennie felt like family and George loved him. "The character George Milton represents Steinbeck's theme of the ultimate sacrifice, that of a loved one, to protect them from further pain, even if it means living on with the guilt of not being able to defend them" ("Of Mice and Men") George sacrificed his one true friend to protect him from the wrath of the other men. "George didn't want Lennie to suffer from the way the men were going to torture him, and he wanted to put him out of misery with his illness. George lost his closest friend but also saved him in a way" ("Sacrifice"). George made a sacrifice for Lennie that he would never forget. “I ain't got no people…. 'Course Lennie's a God damn nuisance most of the time, but you get used to goin' around with a guy an' you can't get rid of him.” (Steinbeck 45) By taking Lennie's life George finally gave himself a life but also lost the only person who loved
Also, understanding is the key to forgive someone regrets his immoral acts against you. The story of Albert Speer reveals the sorrow and compassion of one of the culprit find himself face to face with a victim. Mr. Albert was supporting the Nazis against Jews during the Holocaust. He acknowledged his responsibility and guilt for the mass crime. With the guilty verdict, he imprisoned for twenty years for his legal inhuman acts. When Simon Wiesenthal met him, Albert considered his eyes to find compassion and humanity inside (The Sunflower 246). Thus, I believe that when victim lets down the revenge, he also removes most of the barriers for a substantial correction. In the meantime, if you forgive, you can stop the stupidity of haters and prove that you are much stronger. Besides the world has a lot of evidence proclaiming that the desire for revenge disappears even after a long time of reciprocal violence, but only the people who forgive are the last standing. Overall, to forgive is to build bridges between victims and culprits for a healthy
1. Symbolism—choose ONE of the following items…Curley’s boots, Candy’s dog, or Lennie’s puppy…and explain how it serves as a symbol in the story. NO TEXT SUPPORT IS NEEDED.
Lennie doesn't think he has hands; he thinks he has "paws," and he's fascinated with what those paws can do and how they can affect the world in nature. But like an animal, he doesn't quite understand that if he does something something else will follow.
The essential question is based off the book “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. Should mentally disabled people be punished for crimes in the same way that non-disabled people are? Mentally disabled people should not be punished for crimes in the same way that non-disabled people are because mentally disabled people are mentally challenged and non-disabled people are not. Mentally disabled people can’t think and act for themselves. They need people to think and act for them. Non-disabled people don’t need people to think and act for them because they can think and act for themselves. Mentally disabled people and non-disabled people are different compared to each other
From undergoing sacrifice to enduring harsh and unpleasant moments in life. There were many moments where women would have to sacrifice something to receive something else in return.
