First, the government in “Harrison Bergeron” and “Old Glory is a very strict government with high rule, laws and will do anything to prevent the laws from being broken. In the text it says in Harrison Bergeron “It was then that Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shotgun. She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the floor. Diana Moon Glampers loaded the gun again. She aimed it at the musicians and told them they had ten seconds to get their handicaps back on.” In “Old Glory” it states in the text ““Everyone knows that even though the new law allows for instant executions, the Shoot‐On‐ Sight men are supposed to give a guy a chance….The men lifted their laser rifles. The leader counted to three, and they fired in unison. The light sliced right through the old man.” Second, the government has it were many states are divided or there is more countries involved in the United States. The main similarity between the dystopian novel Brave New World and the short story “Harrison Bergeron”, is the type of government present. Both are attempting to control the individual lives of its people in order to maintain their “ideal” society. In Brave New World, the government uses constant feelings of pleasure in order to keep its people happy in their designated roles. In contrast, in “Harrison Bergeron” the government uses a series of handicaps to create complete and total equality in its citizens. Both are horrible.
In the story “Harrison Bergeron” the society is a dystopia. Diana Moon Glampers the Handicapper general and head of government is responsible for anyone that breaks her rules. “It was then that Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shotgun. She fired twice and the Emperor (Harrison) and the Empress (ballerina) were dead before they hit the floor”. I believe that this is a controlling or an oppressive government because the Handicapper general just shot both of them without sending them to court and giving them a fair trial. Also The Handicapper General didn't even give them a second chance before firing her gun the General didn't even say a word to them. Handicaps are used to keep
Consequences will happen if you don't follow government control.Kurt Vonnegut is going against government control in the story he is not fighting for civil rights. There is no such thing as a perfect society.Everyone will be different no matter what the government does. The message of harrison bergeron is that total equality isn’t as good as it sounds and should not be the goal like many people think. But physical and mental equality should be what we should be striving for. What makes the story and movie different is in the movie it focuses more on Harrison and how he affects the setting. But in the movie it focuses more on harrison's parents and how the setting affects them. The message vonnegut was trying to make was hope of a possibility that the system will change, the people will come together and take control and the evil will fall. Harrison Bergeron because he wrote it so i think he'd like it more because he puts everything important into it.
After the thirteen colonies gained their independence (1780’s) in the United States, Alexander Hamilton (Federalist) and Thomas Jefferson (Anti-federalist) argued about the national government. Alexander believed that the national government should have a strong power, people needed to be governed, and the National Bank is constitutional. Thomas Jefferson, on the other hand, believes that all power should go to the citizens, too much power corrupts the government, and the National Bank is unconstitutional. In some ways, both Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson come into an agreement, both wants to make America a better country.
In the story harrison bergeron the government is very powerful and controlling. Government passed laws to control people through handicaps. Government is very strict about their laws. Being a very intelligent all around person is a danger to the government. The government is a very powering country.
Imagine a place where there are no decisions to make throughout the day. In this place, everyone’s career gets chosen for them, and their hopes, dreams, and aspirations are given to them. There are none of those difficult life decisions to make because they will be made for everybody. Now despite all these seemingly terrible things, we do get something great from all the sacrifices: equality. In this world everyone is equal; no one person smarter, more athletic, more talented, or better than any other. Everyone in this place completely equal, and all thanks to the government, the authorities, the higher-ups, “the man,” or whatever these enforcers’ wish to be called. The world of Harrison Bergeron functions like this. Now while it may seem
The initial governor of Newfoundland that settled the first colony in New Hampshire in the 1620’s was a man named John Mason. The colony came to be known as the “province of New Hampshire” and comprised of most of modern-day southeastern New Hampshire and parts of northern Massachusetts. Mason served as governor of New Hampshire until his death in 1635. In 1686, the dominion of New England was formed and was comprised of the colonies of Massachusetts Bay, Plymouth, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire. The former governor of New York, Sir Edmund Andros was selected to be the dominion governor, a position he held for the three years that the dominion existed. The dominion collapsed in 1689 after news spread to the New England
The original political parties, Federalist and Democratic-Republicans, in America differed in their view of strong federal government vs strong state government.
In 2018 in the ,Bergeron Essay, of today’s society the role of government was achieving equality of opertunities is what Vonnegut is saying.

When people think of heroes, they often think of muscle bound men in spandex with unrealistic powers of flight, strength, or x-ray vision. But in real life, heroes are often determined based on the smallest of situations and their outcomes. In both of the stories I have chosen (A&P and Harrison Bergeron), the main characters are classified as heroes because of their willingness to defy the authoritive forces around them, whether it be the store manager Lengel in A&P or the Handicapper General in Harrison Bergeron, as well as their willingness to strike out on their own instead of adhering to social norms. In Harrison Bergeron, the main character Harrison
