Comparing Government In The Hunger Games And Today

A government is one who provides protection and services to the citizens. It is a group that governs a community and sets policy’s, political and sovereign power through customs, and laws within a state. There are many different forms of governments. If we take the movie, “The Hunger Games” and describe their government, it will have many similarities and differences as our government today. We are given freedom of speech in our society where as the citizens in the movie were held captive under their capitol. In the Hunger Games, the totalitarian future of Panem is divided into 12 districts and the capitol. They select 24 individuals to partake in the Hunger Games where the participants fight for their lives against their enemies in a government controlled arena. In the movie, citizens are struggling for food in District 12 and their working conditions are unbearable as they work extremely hard to feed themselves and their family. All their money is spent on their survival. In the movie, Gale (Katniss’s good friend) put his name in the reaping bowl 42 times to receive food to survive. The people of Panem are struggling to stay alive from the violence surrounding them and to not be chosen for the Hunger Games. This is similar to today’s society if you look at the families who are living on the streets and begging for food on the side of the road. There are a lot of areas that are very poor who live in rundown houses that have no water or electricity because they can’t pay the bills. And people who live off the government because they have no job to supply the needs for their family. Families are working very hard to deplete hunger.
