In turn to this Baba cries, which is unlike the perceived character as he believes men need to be emotionally strong and to be able to stand up for themselves. Their departure is accompanied by pathetic fallacy as the rain storm accompanies the feelings of the characters. However, in Afghanistan, summer rain is rare, just as it is rare for Baba to cry. The “rain through window panes” also symbolises tears from Amir as he doesn’t physically cry but feels the guilt and the sadness of the act that he has committed. The distance between Amir and Hassan is also portrayed through their social status as Amir has a much higher status than Hassan who is a servant, which causes Amir to treat Hassan badly as when he sacrifices Hassan to win Baba’s attention.
