I recently read the book Bridge to Terabithia, then watched the movie. They are about a boy, named Jess, who makes friends with a new girl, named Leslie at his school and together they create a whole new world called Terabithia. The book was written by Katherine Paterson and published by Trophy Newbery. The movie was made by Disney and was directed by Gabor Csupo and starred Josh Hutcherson as Jess Aarons, AnnaSophia Robb as Leslie Burke, and Zooey Deschanel as Ms. Edmunds. As I watched the movie, I was surprised to see that it very closely followed the movie. Even the smallest detail from the book, like a bully stealing Jess’s little sister’s Twinkies was closely adhered to in the movie. Some other details that matched included Jess giving
Both the movie and the book have a lot in common. There are no extra characters in the movie or the book. Sam narrates the story as he did in the book. Some quotes from the book are also in the movie.
There are other significant similarities between the movie and the book, so if I overlooked or forgot any extremely crucial points, forgive me.
“Bridge to Terabithia 2” by definition is considered to be fan fiction. Fan fiction is a type of story based on the same characters, an already existing book, movie, cartoon, etc. As a matter of fact there will be similarities between the actual story and the fan fiction version. Such as, Paterson writes “Knowing somehow that running was the only thing that could keep Leslie from being dead. It was up to him. He had to keep going.”, while the fan fiction writes “Leslie didn’t want to see Jess hurt. If she didn’t see it then maybe it never really happened. Of course she knew this was foolish but she simply couldn’t face the reality that he might be dead. Jess wasn’t allowed to die he wasn’t allowed to leave her.” Consequently, the two
The book and the movie had mostly similarities within both of them. One similarity that the book and the movie had was when Johnny did not want to see his mother. Also PonyBoy
The book also has way more details than the movie. Just like, how the book mentions that Sodapop had a horse named Micky Mouse. Yet, in the movie none of this is featured. An important event is when Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny break into a drive in movie.
It stays pretty close to the book, but on the opposite end the book still out does the movie detail wise. In relation to one another the flaws of the movie are somewhat particular in some of the unimportant parts in the book. These small changes agitate people who read the book first. So warning alert watch the movie first. Besides the movie leaving out these minute details the movie follows the book very closely. Novel wise the book is excellent. As far as ratings go is was really welly viewed. There were no grammar mistakes and slang was properly used. The only flaw was the ending. Just saying. But all in all the movie did not include some of the minor details that made the book so wonderful. In that sense the book is superior to the
“Bridge to Terabithia” written by Katherine Paterson, explores two different characters and their ability to adapt their own personalities for themselves and each other. In addition, this story discusses how to over come fear, by illustrating the journey of Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke while they encounter such scenarios.
You know this if you read the book and then watch the movie you will notice that the movie left some parts out that the book had. An example of this is when in the book The Outsiders it tells a lot about and goes more in-depth about Johnny being jumped by the socs at the beginning and explains why Johnny now goes nowhere without a knife, while the movie barely talks about any of that stuff,
Foremost, it is very recognizable that the overall flow of the story is same, but most of the plot events are not the same. Though, there were same events happening in both novel and the movie. For example, in both
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson has been one of the most challenged books in recent history. Partially based on a true story, Bridge to Terabithia tells the story of a friendship between a young girl, Leslie, and boy, Jesse (Jess for short), and their adventures in a land they call “Terabithia.” At the end, the girl dies. Typically read between 4th and 6th grade, this book helps to teach children about death and loss; and it helps many understand such difficult topics before being faced with them in reality. Yet, people continue to challenge it on the bases of language, witchcraft, violence, and anti-Christian themes.
The plot and the setting of book and movie are very similar. There was a lot of thins borrowed from the book, but there was a lot changed as well. The movie followed the plot of book very closely and portrayed the setting of the book very well. A lot of the dialogue was borrowed and spoken directly as it was in the book.

The film “Bridge to Terabithia” is a fantasy and action film centreing around the lives of two 10 year old neighbours. These children are best friends and spend their free time together in an abandoned tree house where they imagine a forest-like land they call “Terabithia”. Jess is a quiet and shy, but talented and and artistic kid who does not get along well with his Dad and little sister. Jess acts stubborn and arrogant, is a good athlete, although he does act awkward and sometimes goofy. Leslie is new to the neighbourhood and Jess’s school, so she sees the world from a different but adventurous perspective. Leslie found it hard to fit in or make friends at her old school, even with her quirky personality and positive attitude. Leslie lives
Normally, when a movie is made about a story in a book the two stories are not exactly the same. The movie is adjusted by adding small details or leaving out some parts in order to make the story more
