The text titled “Letter from Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther King and the text “The Four Freedoms Speech” by Franklin Delano Roosevelt deals with the main idea/topic of freedom and being united. The authors want to prove that Americans should be united in order to have freedom and strength because a united nation can get through any dire situations. The authors explore theme, alliteration, and rhetoric questions. First, the theme of the text “ The Four Freedoms Speech” by Roosevelt talks about unity. The text says that, “Our strength is our unity of purpose.” This says that, being united is necessary in order to have strength. In the text “ Letter from Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther talks about how the unjust treatment of negroes is why the negroes resort to violence. According to the text, “ The Negro has many pent up resentment and latent frustrations. He has to get them out.” This explains that the negroes would only resort to violence if they were to be treated badly. The themes of the two texts are different because of how the speech talks about unity while the letter talks about the unjust treatment of negroes. …show more content…

The text says that, “ Are you able to accept the blows without retaliating?” This explains the experiences of the negroes and how hard it is to not fight back. The text titled “The Four Freedoms Speech” talks about how being united will result in freedom. The text says that, “ Will we face the future with confidence in whoever we are? This explains that being confident in who they are will result in unity then achieving freedom.
