I could connect Malala to Romeo from “Romeo and Juliet” because both Malala and Romeo at the beginning of each book are innocent people but at the end if “I am Malala”, Malala fights with the Taliban for girl’s rights and education and Romeo kills Tybalt and Paris. Both Juliet and Malala were abused, Malala was abused by the Taliban and Juliet was abused by her dad. First of all, in Romeo and Juliet and I Am Malala , Juliet and Malala are in very similar situations because in both of their cultures girls are forced to grow up fast and get older faster by their parents, even though they are only 13 - 15 years of age. Malala says, "On 12 July I turned fourteen which in Islam means you are an adult” (Pg.231) Juliet is only 13 years old but her mother already wants her to get married because back than girls got married very young. Juliet’s mother says: Malala also tells us about one girl that got married very young, "One of the girls in my class did not return to school that year. She had been married off as soon as she entered puberty. She was big for her age but was still only thirteen. A while later we heard that she had two children" …show more content…
In Romeo and Juliet women were taken and looked at as a possession or even property by their fathers and husbands because they weren’t allowed to argue with dad nor with a husband. Girls were expected to get married at the age of 13 to 14 and not argue with their dad. . In Romeo and Juliet men didn't respect or maybe even treated women with respect. One of the characters, Romeo, feels he is in love with Juliet after only knowing her for a day, which is crazy these days. His “love” to her I think is only sexual attraction because I don't think that you can fall in love with a person in one day. We can see it when Romeo says, In those lines Romeo is trying to say that he wants to spend a night with Juliet to fulfill his
Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in the 16th century, at a time when the role of the woman was to be subservient to men and act as a wife to their husband and a mother to their children. Women were expected to conform to the expectations of society, and were seen as possessions by their fathers and husbands. Fathers arranged their daughters’ marriages, usually for financial or social gain for the family. In Romeo and Juliet, the unfair treatment of women is conveyed through characters such as Juliet, a young girl who is growing up within the expectations of society, and Lady Capulet, who represents a traditional side of love, and values social position rather than men themselves.
In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo’s love for Juliet is purely lust, particularly because Romeo was recently depressed over Rosaline’s lack of returned affection.
However, at the party he meets Juliet for the first time, and immediately falls in love with her: “Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight! / For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.” Romeo, who was in love with Rosaline until a moment ago, completely forgets about her and is now all focused on Juliet. But what is very surprising is not the fact that he is in love with his enemy’s daughter, the astonishing thing is the speed at which he falls in love with her. Soon, in fact, he and Juliet kiss each other: “Thus from my lips, by yours, my sin is purged.” However, Romeo’s characteristics to love so deeply Juliet is just a symbol of his lacking the capacity of moderation for intense feelings of all kind. Had Romeo stopped himself from being so deeply caught up by Juliet’s beauty, the tragedy would have never happened.
Romeo labels his feelings towards Juliet as “love”, although he has not gotten the opportunity to learn about her personality. This indicates that what he feels about her was entirely formed by her physical beauty rather than genuine feelings. Evidently, sexual desires seemed to be his ulterior motive for marrying her, instead of committing to love, care, and cherish her till death do them apart.
Love is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs; Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers’ eyes; Being vexed, a sea nourished with loving tears." Shakespeare, 1.1 183-187. As you can see, there is a strong feeling of love within his character. Later on in the play, an event strikes, causing Romeo to participate in an event that he is not welcome to, and there he meets Juliet. With great passion, he sees Juliet and immediately falls in love, although he was at first phased by Roslyn.
Now after seeing juliet he fell in love with her and now is obsessing over her. Sense he is in his young teens he doesn’t know the true meaning of love. Romeo and Juliet have both fallen in love
Romeo is a lover boy from known to tell, it's not to hard to see in him. Let's talk about most of his statement he gives to show his love. In 3.6.24-26 “Ah,Juliet,if the measure to thy joy be heaped like mine, and that skill be more.” We can obviously he fell in love with Juliet real quick. Only a lover boy would show too much love at the site even though you only met one to two days ago. In 1.3 Romeo is confronted in the town square, by a friend named Tybalt. Well here's what Romeo said “I do protest I never injured thee, But love thee better than thou canst devise, till thou shalt know the reason for my love.” See when most men are in love they are less violent and more to solve a problem quickly. This shows that he isn’t really in love with anyone, even though he might think that he is or has been. This is why I believe that Romeo’s way of loving doesn’t progress throughout the story. If his love really did change when he met Juliet, he would’ve taken his time getting into another relationship and getting to know Juliet better as a person. However, he didn’t do this, and this may lead to another future heartbreak for
Romeo was in love with Rosaline a couple days before which he barely knew. And now he fell in love with Juliet in 1 day which he was with for only about a hour and a hour isn’t enough time to know someone a lot and to even love them. In Romeo and Juliet it also says “O she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear, Beauty too rich for use , for earth too dear! So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows, As yonder lady o’er her fellows shows The measure done, I’ll watch her of stand, And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand. Did my heart love till now?forswear it, sight.” This is part when Romeo crashes the Capulet party and see Juliet for the first time. Romeo in this piece of verse , Romeo was saying that he never saw anything more beautiful and he ask himself if he just fell in love which he was but he only fell in love for seeing her beauty not her personality. The two lovers would have to know each other more other than beauty and might now love each other and be happy because they would've found out who they actually were and how they act as individuals.
In the play, Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare , an important idea is sexism and the way men and women are treated differently. This is important because it was an issue in the play and is still an issue in some parts of society today. At the beginning of the play, we see Juliet behave well, follow instructions and do as her Father says. At first, when Juliet is told she must marry Paris, she tries to be gentle and quietly express her love for Romeo without causing trouble.
Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona. They are two star crossed lovers from two different families who have been feuding for generations. This is apparent in the line “The quarrel is between our masters and us their men”. This demonstrates that the play is destined to result in tragedy. The effect that is created on the audience is that the families have been fighting constantly for many years and that it has been passed down from generations to generations. The Montague’s and Capulet’s ancestors were feuding and this fight has carried on over the years. Looking from a social context women were ruled over by men. Women were possessions or baggage. This relates to the play through Capulet and Juliet’s relationship. Capulet tells Juliet
In order to understand Romeo and Juliet, it must be remembered that these two heralds of love were little more than children. In Renaissance England, the category of adolescence was not recognized (Cox 391). A person went from childhood to adulthood without the liberty that is allowed to modern adolescents. Nowadays, the teenage years are accepted as a turbulent period in which defiance of authority and assertion of "self" are not only allowed, but also expected. Adults explain away even the most inexplicable behavior of teenagers as "just a phase". However, as this was not done in Shakespeare’s England, both Romeo and Juliet were expected to take on the roles of adults, and were chastised for their refusal to enter in the adult world as their parents would have them. Juliet is first presented to the audience as a young woman who has come to marrying age: “Well, think of marriage now; younger than you, / Here in Verona, ladies of esteem, / Are made already mothers…Thus then in brief: / The valiant Paris seeks you for his love”(1.3.69-74). Juliet is presented with the idea of marrying Paris with

Romeo had just loved another girl, Rosaline, only moments before seeing Juliet and deciding that he had loved her instantly. According to the article, “Love at first sight is a phenomenon that 15% of people have reported experiencing it. They described it as a once in a lifetime situation.” It seems impossible that Romeo had experienced this with two girls within a few days. As for Juliet, she is only 13 years old. Many studies have found that children can not love somebody romantically until they have hit puberty. She shows her immaturity towards the beginning of the book, when the nurse is speaking to her and she gets extremely embarrassed. While she does mature throughout the play, her maturity level at when she first met Romeo was no where near where it would have to be to fall inlove.
