Comparing Odyssey And Young Goodman Brown

An odyssey is a journey or a journey with many obstacles and events. The Odyssey by Homer is a story about a character named Odysseus that takes a very long journey and tells that obstacles and events that occurred during his journey. During this semester, I have read many literary works and feel that there are several other characters that have been on journeys, literally and physically, themselves. In this essay, I will compare and contrast Odysseys to other characters by their struggles, strengths, and weaknesses.
Odysseus takes a literal journey for years and years, against his will, and faces many ups and downs along the way. His character is very proud, selfish, witty, and quick thinking. These characteristics either help him in his situations or they get him in even more trouble. Both characters experience a very unique journey. They also both have faithful wives that wait for their return from the journey. However, Young Goodman Brown and Odysseus characteristics are not comparable at all.
Another journey that was taken in the literary works I read was one by the speaker or narrator in Because I could not stop for Death by Emily Dickinson. The speaker is taking the journey of death to her gravesite. Even though Odysseus did not experience death himself in the novel, he saw a lot of death and experienced many close calls. Just like the speaker was not prepared for death, Odysseus was not prepared in for many of his obstacles and had to come up with solutions very fast.
