Soccer and American football are two very contrasting sports. One is played with your hands, the other with your feet. However, they also have some similarities. They both require typical sport attributes; strength and ability, and their audiences are both attracted by the billions to watch the professionals play. Although these games have plenty in common, they are very different in their own ways.
A major contrast in the sports are the differing scores and awards. The top scorer in German Bundesliga, Polish international Robert Lewandowski, has scored 15 goals in 15 games as of the 2016-17 season, averaging 1 goal per game. The top scorer in the NFL so far in the 2016-17 season has been Antonio Brown. Brown has scored 56 points in 16 games, averaging 3.5 points per game. Obviously, soccer is the lesser scoring sport, which is one of the reasons it doesn’t attract many American spectators. In his first season with the Steelers, Brown performed a season high 4 catches for 52 yards. His phenomenal performance led the Steelers to 41-9 win over the Cleveland Browns. During the 2015-16 season, Lewandowski pulled off a whopping 5 goals in 9 minutes. This achievement led FC Bayern Munich to a 5-1 win over FC Wolfsburg. This season, he has won the Bundesliga Player of Year award. Lewandowski has also won the Bundesliga Topscorer award twice, one in the 2013-14 season and one in the 2015-16 season.
Another major difference in these games are the stadiums. Camp Nou, Barcelona, is the largest soccer stadium in European soccer. It can hold 99,354 spectators. The largest football stadium in America is the Michigan Stadium, holding an extravagant 107,601 spectators. While American football takes the cake for the best stadium in terms of capacity, there are many other factors that go into a great stadium. Design is one of those factors. Take Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar for example. This field is actually squeezed in between rock formations in all four directions. While watching the game, spectators can take in the beautiful scenery. It also offers beautiful sunny days most of the year, giving the coliseum a huge plus. Soccer isn’t the only activity hosted there, too. They also host events like cricket and music festivals
