Known as the founder of the Renaissance, Leonardo De Vinci was an astonishing man. Born on April 15th, 1452, he later died in 1519. Leonardo left behind beautiful art, wonderful ideas and eccentric concepts of science and nature. His art focused on realizing contrast, he focused on the understanding of where peace resides, so does destruction. He introduced many ideas to art that were new for his time, for example, his technique of smoky backgrounds brought life to his paintings. By the age of twenty, he was a master artist. As he included mathematics to his art, he precisely incorporated his beliefs about nature. His most known pieces include The Last Supper and The Mona Lisa. Leonardo De Vinci is considered to be one of the greatest artists and naturalists to ever live.

His mother was a maid and his father was a public notary in Milan. At the age of 14, Da Vinci became an apprentice to Andrea del Verrocchio, one of the best painters at that time! With help from Verrocchio, Da Vinci learned how to paint, sculpt, and learned skills in metallurgy, drafting, chemistry, and carpentry. Out of all of these, his heart was with art. The reason I chose to write about Leonardo was because he is very famous for what he does and I wanted to know what he actually does that makes him so important and famous. Da Vinci is significant because of his art. The most famous pieces of art that he has made were, The Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. People even gave him the name “ Renaissance Man.”

It is well known that the Mona Lisa painting is portrayed as the most visited, viewed, written, and sung about painting in the world. This portrait took Leonardo da Vinci about three to four years to complete. Mona Lisa is said to be one of his favorite art work; therefore, he took his time painting and finishing it.

He had an amazing combination of intelligence and imagination, which led him to create, on paper at least, inventions such as the bicycle, the helicopter, and a design for an airplane. Leonardo da Vinci was a true genius and possibly one of the best minds in history.

He was very smart and very curious about everything. He helped us learn more things and built things we need today. The Mona Lisa paining is the probably one of the most famous pieces of art in the world. The art continues to fascinate many due to the details that makes it look like a real person. It is a portrait of a woman called Lisa Gherardini married to Francesco Del Giocondo (Strickland and Boswell 35). The eyes seem to move, and the smile of the woman portrayed has remained a mystery to many people. Many people have viewed the painting, but interpretation requires a certain taste and eye. It is dated back to the 16th century before Leonardo da Vinci the painter died (Sassoon and Leonardo 34). The painting was done on a poplar using oil, common during this century. The piece continues to evoke thoughts in many people as well as appeal to all that view
