“Hold on, hold on to me ‘cause I’m a little unsteady.” These lyrics from the song “Unsteady” by X Ambassadors relate to Madame Loisel from Guy de Maupassant’s short story “The Necklace.” Both the song and Mme Loisel struggle in life and are not comfortable with where they are in their current situation. Mme Loisel and the song cannot stand alone on their feet. Mme Loisel struggled with money after thinking that she lost a forty thousand frank necklace she borrowed from a friend. She then tried to replace the necklace with a replica from a jeweler. She and her husband borrowed money from others, used their savings, fired their maid, and Mme Loisel began to work. It turns out the necklace she borrowed was not authentic. She and her husband had to pay back all of the loaners for the money they had borrowed for a false diamond necklace that they had replaced with a real one. This took them ten years of a low income, poor life. Their life could be described as unsteady. The song by X Ambassadors discusses in the song how the singer is not stable. …show more content…

Mme Loisel just wanted to be the wealthy, social woman she dreamed, but this dream was tattered by the lost necklace. She had to live a life far from her dream. The song describes Mme Loisel’s life after paying the debt she and her husband had generated. During the ten years of their hard work and low income, Mme Loisel and her husband experienced the unsteady life that is illustrated through the song by X Ambassadors. “If you love me, don’t let go” is a lyric that could describe Mme Loisel and her husband’s struggle. Mme Loisel and the X Ambassadors song relate in many ways. The struggle of hanging on to what they have is described in both the song and the short story. Both the song and Mme Loisel can not become stable. “Hold on to me, ‘cause I’m a little unsteady.” describes both Madame Loisel’s and the X Ambassadors
