Comparing Trains and Planes as Means of Transportation
From the dawn of time, man has followed his urge to travel; sometimes neglecting the enjoyment of the journey in pursuit of the destination. Although two of the favorable means of passenger transportation - the plane and the train - accomplish the task of arriving at a destination, there are distinct differences in their capacity for comfort, time, scenic value, and safety.
To entice the weary traveler, accustomed and outraged by the rough, tiresome, and jolting rides on planes and trains, improvements have been made over the decades to pamper the passenger. Mechanical changes and physical changes enhance the traveling experience. Although airplane seats are space-efficient to

Dining aboard is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Crisp white linens, fine crystal, and delicate china adorn the tables in the spacious dining cars. Uniformed staff pour carafes of fine wine of bubbling soda into genuine glasses. If a traveler is interested in creature comforts, the train is the idea choice.
On the other hand, if time is of the essence, planes are far superior to trains. At speeds up to 500 MPH, a plane can travel across country in hours; trains travel like snail in comparison with speeds of 45-100 MPH. If speed is important, then the plane is the wisest choice.
However, if a traveler is interested in enjoying the scenic pleasure of traveling, trains have a distinct advantage over planes. From high in the sky, the earth resembles a miniature ant farm. Glancing out the scratchy, thick plastic window, tiny moving vehicles appear like scurrying insects across clearly marked human paths. At night, millions of twinkling lights decorate the land like the holiday season. The scenery is quite different while traveling the iron rails. Outside the tinted picture windows, a moving masterpiece - the luscious countryside dotted by quaint buildings, the gently rolling hills, and the peaceful blur of nature. For scenic beauty alone, the train is an excellent choice in transportation.
Regarding safety, travelers who suffer from Aerophobia or
Airplanes are massive and very complex pieces of machinery, and they help us get to places more efficiently and cheaper than traditional ways. Although we have seen that if
Automobiles play a major role in today's society. Almost every American owns at least one motorized transportation vehicle. Some say they make our lives better by reaching places faster than before. Others say they are a harmful to the environment. Have they made our society better or worse? They may be fast, but do we as humans want our environment to suffer because of time. Face it, cars pollute. And they release destructive chemicals into the air. Air pollution can threaten the health of many subjects in the environment including human beings.
In Conclusion “Drifters” “Lucky Miles” “Last seen at 12.10AM” and “The Ivory trail” all have impacts which affect each traveler in different
When the railway had not yet existed the majority of transportation took place by wagon. It is said that traveling by wagon actually costs approximately twenty times more than traveling by rail (Doc E). As stated in Document E, traveling by rail cost less than a tenth… than it would by wagon. Therefore, a more efficient transportation route was created; this meaning that the railway was less costly, much more agile, and also safer than the traditional, inconvenient
On October 6th, 2016 at around 3 p.m. I rode the number 1 train from Van Courtlandt Park in the Bronx to South Ferry in lower Manhattan. The ride lasted about an hour. Like stated earlier, this should’ve been just another ride I had to take on the subway, but to my surprise it was a different experience. Without the disturbance of music and my phone, my senses were focused on everything in my surroundings and with that, the things I’ve observed on my ride were fascinating. This essay will focus on the observations I’ve made about the different riders
In the 1800s many diverse and interesting things that happened, we thought would be best put into a timeline. The purpose of this timeline is to help and or give a general understanding of this time in us history. The timeline is located at the bottom of the page. A major transportation breakthrough occurred during the middle of the 1800s that continued through the late 1880s in the year 1830, the first railroad system was born. At this time they were at an average of 100 miles in length , 1840 3,500 miles , 1860- 30,300 miles.
This can make travel both more pleasurable and efficient. A journey from New York City to Los Angles at its fastest with no stops at all, which would not be possible, averages around forty hours; that same cross country journey in a plane takes only about six hours. Shorter travel time generated by air travel can allow both more effective use of vacation and business time. Air travel has also made foreign travel much more feasible. As opposed to a multi-day journey from NYCity to London, a flight would take about six and a half hours. Decreased travel time increases the time that can be spent at the destination, which is a major benefit over cars. Air travel can also be more pleasant to travelers than by other forms of transport due to its amenities. Unlike driving a car, a bathroom is onboard the plane as well as food and drink are available. Air travel can also be less mentally and physically taxing than driving, mainly because there is no rode to concentrate on as well as planes allow passengers to move about the cabin lessening muscle
traveling by foot. Today we have trains that can move up to speeds of 366 miles per hour in
This issue is very philosophical and one must accept the train to understand this plane.
The high-speed train in Japan has shown researchers in the United States what the future holds if Texas develops high-speed train travel. The quicker train will allow tourists to travel between different cities without having to get on a plane to travel and without the hassle of dealing with airport security, parking, luggage transport, and lengthy layovers. High-speed travel on the Texas Central Railway system will support the economy as it has in Japan (Texas Central). The two cities can profit from the profit that is brought in from the development of the Texas Central Railway
Flight has become romanticized by humanity, it provides “Freedom”. Throughout the majority human history, humans have used land and water for their transportation needs. The invention of the airplane opened the use of a third medium, air. Flight only has the illusion of freeing us from earth. Airplanes would not be able to maintain flight without their ground based systems. These systems are arranged along flight corridors or airways. The Transcontinental Airway was the first major flight corridor constructed in the United States. The ground systems constructed along these corridors have made major impacts upon the landscape of the early 20th century.
The city I chose is New York. The one transportation is the Elevated train. The New York have this in 1868. At 1903 the train don’t used manrai it changed to electric power and is is a clean ride. The Elevated train is also known as El rail.
The 21st century has opened up new ways of travel for the newer and future generations. Perry Patetic in his passage suggests that due to the level of mobility in our lifetime there lacks the close relationships of living in one general area. He continues by listing hypothetical advantages and disadvantages of traveling. The authors purpose is to point out that the current generations have become less attached to other people and should stay in one spot and create close relationships. The author creates a monotone tone for our generation and generations to come.
Another deciding factor that a traveler must consider is, comfort, who wants to be uncomfortable on their way to a business meeting or at the start of their vaction? Seats in some cars have the ability to be set in many different positions, allowing the traveler to choose the best position for optimum comfort. However, not all car seats are comfortable and while driving the traveler will remain in the same general position for the duration of their travel. Additionally, too much comfort while driving may result in the traveler not being as focused, as they should be. Frequent stops and changing drivers may help make all passengers more comfortable. Nevertheless, unless the traveler is flying first class, coach seating on airplanes is not known or often associated with comfort. Coach seating on an airplane typically results in limited seat recline, constrained leg space and awkwardly shared armrests. Unlike cars, airplane travelers have the ability to
Transportation is one of the largest industries in the world. It is the most costly and time consuming of the supply chain. Transportation refers to the movement of products and raw materials from one destination to another. This process begins from the supply chain to the shipping of the finished product to the consumer. For we know that products are rarely produced in the same location. We as people depend on transportation because it moves goods and people from one place to another.
