Are there any similarities in the way that each society explains human origins?
In comparison of the two stories the world started from the idea or ideas of several gods or god-like spirits. Each story is simplistic yet complex in its own way.
Evidence
In the beginning of both stories there were many gods or god-like beings that decided to go forth on vast land and create something they could control or govern. Each world creation was started from a single god coming forward and starting each chain of events.
Both creation stories show every god coming together and working for a greater cause. Each god put forth effort to create things that would benefit the new world. In “The Golden Chain” each god gave gold to Obatala to go into a
but at the same time be so similar. The book of Genesis is a creation story that believes in that God is the creator of mankind and all of life on planet earth. “The World on Turtles Back” is a creation story that believes that all of the resources, food, and life come from two twins and a Sky Woman. “The World on the Turtles Back” says “The woman took the tiny clod of dirt and placed it on the middle of the great sea turtle’s back. Then the woman began to walk in a circle around it, moving in the direction that the sun goes.
1. One way the two creation stories are similar is that the order of creation is in the same order in both stories. In Genesis, after God made the heavens and earth, he created the sea and sky, followed by the fish and the birds. The “World on the Turtles’ Back” followed the same pattern except in the beginning there was a “sky world” where the god’s lived (38). This is most likely another similarity, because the “sky world” and Heaven were probably the same thing.
There are many similarities in the Babylonian, Egyptian, and Genesis stories. In all the stories one god creates man and explains how all things on earth come to being. They also set up their calendars and show examples of evil within each story to set up moral rules for man to live by. How do these elements compare between each of these stories?
One obvious similarity between the two tales are the antagonists. The serpent is the antagonist in Genesis, as he coerces Eve into betraying God, and her husband. To convince Eve to commit
First we will be contrasting them. These story start very differently off the bat one with god making everything from nothing and in the other a woman made only the earth and she made it from earth and that brings us to our greatest difference between the two stories. In the bible story there is an all powerful god doing everything as for in the native american one it is quite frankly a normal human making the earth and her family making everything that comes after.
In both of these creation stories, it talks about worshiping the God or gods that were the creators
The next comparison between two stories is that of Norse mythology and Greek mythology. Both stories have very similar ideas and ways of telling their stories of how their world came into being. Norse has their giants, who gave birth to the original three gods that created Midgard. The Greeks have the Titans who bore the Greek gods who overthrew them as well to control the Earth. Both myths contain the presence of creatures in their stories, beasts who helped shape their respective worlds to move the culture’s creation stories further along. Creatures within these worlds would be the dwarves, the serpent Nidhogg, and demons of Norse myth and the Cyclopes, the furies, and Typhon of Greek origin Furthermore, the children of some of these creatures were divines, who ended up overthrowing their elders to lead the creation of their own worlds, to rule over their own creations as well. And speaking of the world, both myths have multiple layers to their
Often a topic of debate, there are several different takes on the creation story existent in literature. Dependent on one’s religion, different beliefs about how the world we live in was created may arise. Looking deeper into the literature, one will realize there are also many similarities between creation stories. Based on the strong possibility that Genesis was influenced by the Enuma Elish, there are similarities that stem from the fact that they both describe the creation of a new world as well as differences in their interpretations and approaches to creationism.
Throughout the plot of these four creation stories, it is visible that each culture has varying beliefs on how land was developed. For example, Cherokee Indians conclude that land was created by a water beetle who sculpted soft mud, where as Hawaiians believe that land emerged from the slime in the ocean. Both Europeans and West Africans teach that a supreme being used his or her powers to form land. In Genesis, God was responsible for the land, whereas in the Golden Chain story, a creature called Obatala was deemed accountable for creating the land. One similarity betweens these stories is that they all begin in an almost identical setting. In every myth except for
One parallel between Greek and Egyptian creation stories is that they both begin with a God or Gods being created from the universe. The creation of
The Greek and Genesis creation stories resemble each other in many ways but also they have their differences too. Imagine two stories that come from two different places could have so many similarities, but it also has it’s differences.
The differences that are in the stories, Iroquois first. The iroquois have the animals that go down and help the sky goddess get soil to live on but only one lives through it to get her land so she doesn't stay on the turtle’s back. From what i read it shows the respect for nature which we need more since our environment is in the hurt. Another is the there is no set god and in the bible there is. Also with this the god isn’t punishing.
Today, there are many theories on how the world was created however people have been speculating on how the Earth was created for years. It dates all the way to the Native Americans. The story “The Osage Creation Account” and “The Navajo Creation Myth” have both similarities and differences. First, both stories put strong emphasis on nature. Secondly, The Osage Account focuses on one specific animal whereas the Navajo Myth touches on many different creatures. Thirdly, both stories each have a completely different version on how the world was created.
Reading The Chinese and The Greek creation stories; you can point out key similarities and differences throughout these stories .You can compare two and find out that their cultures are not all that different but still can see the differences between the two. When reading the Chinese and Greek creation stories, they have at least two similarities but, also their side of differences.
One similarity that is present between the Theogony and Genesis is that both have women in a central role when it comes to the pitfalls of man. In Genesis it is Eve who eats the fruit from the Garden of Eden and eventually forces God to banish them from the Garden. In the Theogony, it is made clear that by the creation of Pandora from Zeus that the race of women is considered a curse to men and an “infestation” that is evil for them (Theogony ln, 375-385). In a similar vein to the above example, another major similarity is how in both creation stories, the deity plays an active role in shaping the lives of man through intervention or punishment. In Genesis, God does this by creating other wildlife as helpmates which Adam then names, by creating Eve, and also eventually punishing man for disobeying the order to not eat from the Garden. In the Theogony,
