Barack Obama and Thomas Jefferson have both experienced the responsibility of being president of the United States of America. Barack Obama served from 2009 to 2017, he is seen as a more modern president since Thomas Jefferson served from 1801-1809. Obama and Jefferson held great achievements before becoming president and they each had efficent political backgrounds. Obama served as senator of Illinois for eight years while Jefferson was governor of Virginia. Even though these two presidents served at different time periods, they each faced domestic and foreign issues during the duration of their two terms in office. During his presidency, Obama has handled foreign issues concerning war, diplomatic relations with Cuba, and negotiating a nuclear weapons agreement with Iran (“Barack Obama: Foreign Affairs”). Meanwhile, during Jefferson’s time in office, he purchased the Louisiana territory from France and passed the Embargo Act of 1807 (“Thomas Jefferson: Foreign Affairs”). Since Barack Obama is a more modern president, he is seen to have effectively handled today’s current foreign issues. He successfully managed to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba and he also managed to reduce American troops presence in Iraq, however he was …show more content…
Even though Thomas Jefferson could effectively work to solve certain foreign and domestic issues, he would not be fit to handle today’s world since it is a major difference from his time. Jefferson’s actions would be influenced with old views and change would be more harder to implicate. Meanwhile, Obama is more experienced with handling current foreign and domestic issues and he would have a fresh view of how to handle certain issues due to being raised in a more modern time. Based on how Barack Obama has handled issues concerning the economy and the reduction of American troops, he would be seen as a more qualified president for today’s
The revolutionary period was the age of reason. It was the period in time when civilians wanted to take control of their unalienable rights; “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” (Jefferson). Both Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson took part in the revolutionary period. They were both leaders that took action to receive independence from Great Britain. The two revolutionary leaders are remarkably comparable and contrastable from each other. One huge difference between Henry and Jefferson is their difference as an individual person, views, and politics. Another difference is the difference between the
In the history of America, Thomas Jefferson, the Secretary of State, and Hamilton, the Secretary of the Treasury, were two of the greatest leaders of our country. Although they both lead the country, that's where the similarities end as they had opposing views on everything. Jefferson was a republican while Hamilton was a federalist. Jefferson had been opposed to all of Hamilton's ideas, such as his financial plan, his interpretation of the powers of the government, his foreign policy, and his vision for the future of America. Jefferson was against Hamilton's views because his financial plan would ultimately destroy democracy in America, his interpretation of the powers of
The two most influential leaders in United States history, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, took a significant role in the adoption of the Constitution. These leaders were Founding Fathers, but they took very different approaches to the Constitution and how it should have been perceived. As the United States began to adopt an official Constitution, Founding Fathers Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson each had different positions where Hamilton was much more lenient with his position of the constitution, while Jefferson’s ideas were much more logical and stringent with the principles of the Constitution and how people perceived them.
Chief Diplomat is defined as a leader who oversees, creates, and executes foreign relations and policies between the United States and other countries. The two most influential “Chief Diplomats” the US has ever had were George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. George Washington thrusted into the presidency by unanimous vote of the electoral college. Throughout his presidency, George Washington developed the country further than any president who would follow did. Washington was able to defend the homeland and support the United State’s foreign relations through his passing of the Neutrality Proclamation, Jay’s Treaty, and the Treaty of Tripoli. Many historians would argue that Thomas Jefferson made strides in advancing the nation much further through his accomplishment of acquiring the Louisiana Territory. Although neither president perfectly accomplished all goals they set out to complete, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson single-handedly accomplished, shaped, and developed the nation through treaties and foreign relations far more than any other pair of presidents during their terms as president.
Have you ever gone to a presidential inauguration? Barack Obama and George Washington are two presidents of 45 presidents that were inaugurated and made inaugural addresses for the future of the country. Both presidents talked about their own views, with some similar and others different. They were both elected to office in bad times for the country. George Washington was elected when the United States gained independence and Barack Obama was elected when they were at war with Iran and Afghanistan.
Although born into very distinct eras in American history, both presidents Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln found themselves faced with very similar issues while they were in office. Two primary issues they faced while in office regarded the subjects of slavery and educating the American people. How they felt about these issues and how they responded to them was mostly similar, except for two notable distinctions regarding slavery. In colonial America, one of the first issues Thomas Jefferson faced while in office was how to deal with the rising debate regarding slavery in colonial America.
Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton are two very different, yet similar, people. Jefferson grew up in Virginia to a well respected family, while Hamilton was born in the Caribbean Island of St. Croix, but moved to America when he at age thirteen to get a better education. They were both prodigies in writing, Hamilton wrote about a hurricane around eleven, amazing many people, and Jefferson was able to write eloquence with his pen, all throughout his life. Jefferson was born into a powerful family, owned slaves, and worked on a tobacco farm, while Hamilton married into a New York wealthy family, where he was noticed by General George Washington, and became his personal assistant. After watching
Jefferson came into office on March 4, 1801 and left office on March 4, 1809. His first term’s vice president was Aaron Burr, and his second term’s vice president was George Clinton. He ran with the Democratic-Republican Party and
If you lived as an educated American in the early nineteenth century, being rated for competence in office at such an early point in the history of the nation of America must have looked very different from how it does today. Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States of America, served from 1801-1809. Being the virtual founder of the Democratic-Republican party that he was, he vehemently opposed the popular Federalists of his time, and vice versa. There were reasons for why he opposed the Federalists- not only being a major contributor to the basic fibers of America as one of it 's Founding Fathers, Jefferson was a man and a President who truly understood democracy 's goal and spirit, and ultimately he believed that the Federalists did not. His love of democracy and liberty holds true, even in spite of his choice to own slaves, a practice that went directly against the grain of the words he wrote with his own hand, that "...all men are created equal." Often the lives of great men contain deeds of theirs that do not measure up to their overall character. This could definitely be said of Thomas Jefferson, who was indeed a great President, in spite of being a man with some conflicted principles.
Abraham Lincoln assumed the office of the President of the United States 153 years ago. Barack Obama did the same 148 years later. Nearly fifteen decades separate these two historical events and astounding men. While one man has gone to great lengths to model himself after the other, there was possibly a connection there all along. The differences between Lincoln and Obama are evident and expected, but the similarities are remarkable and extraordinary.
In a few days Donald Trump will become our president of the United States. Between Obama and Trump they are so much different Obama is a whole different person from Trump. I realized so much in these two from their speeches they did, from the way they talk, body language, and how they act around the press. I realized and i always knew that Trump would never make a good president just from speech. I have always liked Obama he did amazing things for us, he changed so many things in the US i am glad he was our president.
Probably the most glaring difference between Jackson and Jefferson was their opinions on Native Americans. As a young man, Jackson spent a lot a time fighting Indians. The Indians were the natural enemy of the white settlers, as surprise attacks were often conducted, where houses were burned and whole families were murdered. Having experienced this, it is safe to say that Jackson did not think highly of the Indians. On the other end of the spectrum, Jefferson grew up as a student of Indian life of the frontier. In the book, Jefferson refutes the ignorant opinions of Buffon, a Frenchmen who declared that Indians, compared to Europeans, are “less strong in body; he is also less sensitive, and yet more timid and cowardly; he has no vivacity, no activity of mind.” Jefferson, having personally known Indians, refuted
In the 18th century, the fate of Americas political structure was uncertain. In George Washington's Farewell Address in 1796, the president advised that the creation of political parties sharpened by the spirit of retaliation, would inevitably cause long term mistreatment. Despite his words, two of his closest advisors, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, formed the gatherings that started the dual-party system in which the United States operates today.
Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were key Founding Fathers of America who contributed to its freedom and independence. Both men were influential leaders of their time whose visions for the future of the country were clearly contrasting. Hamilton believed for a strong federal government and an economy based on banking. While Jefferson desired for a nation to be controlled by the states and its people. Their competing visions for the United States are still in debate until this day. Although Jefferson’s ideas were significant to America, many of Hamilton’s philosophy still holds in today’s government.
Both of these presidents, former and current, have opinions on what America should be moving towards, to better the country. These presidents have both done their fair share for this country already, though Trump has only been in office for a year, while Obama has been in office for a full term, then was re elected for another. They both, though, like all things, have many similarities and differences, these things are likely affected by their party, and mindset, along with their personality. For instance, Obama is apart of the Democratic party, while Trump is apart of the Republican party, making their outlook on America and things like taxes and abortion, different. Differences
