In the 1980’s, the United States was in a recession. Clinton’s presidency helped America get out of the red and was finally out of debt. During this time, crime rates rose as well as poverty and unemployment. Bill Clinton was elected in 1992 as a Democrat, and ran again in 1996 to be re-elected. Clinton’s Presidency consisted of many improvements within the nation, but also the collapse of his reputation. Throughout his presidency, Clinton was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice due to an affair with Monica Lewinsky. Although Clinton was a member of the Democratic Party, he worked with the Congressional Republicans throughout his presidency, in order to unite the two parties while he was in office. Both Clinton and the Republicans agreed to focus on decreasing the crime rate and teen pregnancy. During this time, the crime rates increased as well as teen pregnancy and unemployment. Clinton says, “the crime rate, the welfare and food stamp rolls, the poverty rate and the teen pregnancy rate are all down,” (31-9). The Republicans wrote acts on how to deal with these issues, such as “the taking back our streets act” and “the personal responsibility act,” (31-8). Another issue both the Republicans and Clinton agree on is budget and tax cuts. Clinton believed that by cutting taxes, and lowering interest rates, would allow people to have more spending money. By the people having more money to spend, they will be able to invest in businesses and this will ultimately create new jobs. The Republicans created an act to enable tax cuts called “the fiscal responsibility act,”(31-8). Next, both Clinton and the Republicans talked about the American Dream. The Republicans say that the American Dream is too far out of reach for most families due to the taxes. Clinton is in search for how to make the American Dream a reality. Lastly, both Bill Clinton and the Republicans believed in limited government. Bill Clinton states, “we know big government does not have all the answers,” (31-9). Years before Clinton became president, big government was always the answer. Clinton realized that it …show more content…
The Republicans come up with an act called The Common Sense Legal Reform Act that states, “Loser pays laws, reasonable limits on punitive damages and reform on product liability laws to stern the endless tide of legislation,” (31-8). Using the word loser is very aggressive and not appropriate to use in a political document. The “Contract with America” states every single issue America is facing at the time, with solutions. The Republicans use very aggressive and assertive tone because they know the problems and want them fixed as soon as possible, done in their way. On the other hand, Clinton’s tone was very hopeful and wanted the people to have trust in the government again. Clinton wrote the “State of the Union Address” right before he was running again in 1996 for re-election. In the “State of the Union Address” Clinton discusses all the issues in America and how he plans on fixing them during his next presidency if he wins. Clinton states in his address, “My duty tonight is to report on the State of the Union, not the of our government but of our American community, and to set forth our responsibly, in the words of out Founders, to “form a more perfect union,”
In today’s society the majority of American taxpayers want to know which party gives them the most “bang for their buck.” The Democrats favor the Keynesian theory, which suggests managing the economy by keeping it on an even keel and avoiding fluctuations in the business cycle. This theory suggests stimulating the economy by putting money in the hands of consumers to trigger demand. This would increase government spending and possibly cut taxes in the process. On the contrary, Republicans tend to favor the Supply Side theory. This theory suggests economic stimulation can be achieved by focusing on increasing supply rather than demand. In other words, if companies make it, consumers buy it.
This trial took place in 1999. Before Clinton was ever elected as president he had an encounter with a women by the name of Paula Jones. Paula Jones would come out about the encounter after Clinton was elected to presidency. In July of 1995, women by the name of Monica Lewinsky would be hired as an intern for Clinton. Months later they would begin having sexual relations. Mr. Kenneth Starr was put in charge of the investigation of Clinton and Lewinsky’s relationship. Clinton denies the fact that he had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky at all times. In October 1998, the House would vote to have an impeachment trial and would win with a vote of 258 to 176. By the time the trial ended, Bill Clinton would not be kicked out of the office by the
President Bill Clinton began an affair with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern, in 1995. Later in 1998, when confronted with questions in regards to an affair with Monica Lewinsky, Clinton lied under oath in front of a grand jury. This, however, was not his first lapse in judgment as viewed by the Senate and Congress. The President and his wife, Hillary, found themselves involved in the Whitewater scandal beginning in 1978. In addition, during his campaign, Clinton was accused of draft dodging and rumors were spread in regards to his possible marriage infidelity. President Bill Clinton continued to find himself caught in the middle of scandals involving: Whitewater, Paula Jones, and most notably, Monica Lewinsky. The way Clinton handled
In today's society, we think that the two main political parties of America, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are complete inverse. When we look closer, the several gatherings are as a matter of fact exceptionally comparative. Their strategies may be unexpected, but the roots that they are determined from are the same. . These two parties dominate America’s politics but differ significantly in their beliefs. Some instances, many beliefs overlap. So what are the differences between Democrats and Republicans?

A tragic hero is a person who is adored or praised by the public eye but then chooses an action that eventually leads to his or her’s own destruction. These kind of heroes have been around for an extreme amount of time. A tragic hero is most commonly heard of in a novel or epic, but there have been many historical tragic heroes throughout the real world. Every continent, every country, and even every state has had at least one real life tragic hero in their midst. The United State’s dealt with a tragic hero when they elected former president Bill Clinton into office. Clinton, who use to be known for his intelligence and great speaking abilities, is now known for his scandalous acts in the White House.
The reason why he faced impeachment is because in November 1995, Clinton began an affair with Monica Lewinsky, she was a 21 year old unpaid intern. In April 1996, Lewinsky was transferred to the Pentagon. In the summer, Monica confided in Pentagon co-worker Linda Tripp about her relationship with the president. In 1997, the relationship was over, Linda began to secretly record conversations with Lewinsky, so she would get details about the affair. In December, lawyers for Paula Jones brought Monica. In January 1998, allegedly under the recommendation of the president, Monica denied having a relationship with the president. Five days later, Linda contacted the office of Kenneth Starr, the Whitewater counsel, to talk about Monica and the tapes she made of their conversations. Linda, who was wired by FBI agents, met with Monica again and Monica was taken by FBI agents and U.S. attorneys to a hotel room where she was questioned and was offered immunity if she cooperated. Few days later, the story was out and Clinton denied the allegations saying, “I did not have a relationship with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.” Clinton spoke a live television to a grand jury in a nearby federal courthouse. He was the first sitting president to testify before a grand jury investigating his conduct. Clinton gave a four minute televised address to the nation which he admitted he had a relationship with Lewinsky. On December 11th, the House Judiciary Committee
While it is undeniable that both of the Obama and Clinton campaigns were successful, their methods for winning could not be more different. Attacking against other candidates, defending personal relations, and putting others on the defense were all tactics that Bill Clinton used to win, going in line with how politics were run back in 1992. Attending rallies, speaking for the people, and shaking hands were Obama's main means for winning. Both campaigns had vastly different methods for winning, and both races were very close at one point. Ultimately, both candidates were able to read the attitude of the American public at that time and deliver what the public wanted to see, a candidate that, in their eyes, would be perfect for president.
One of the things Clinton is most famous for, but not the proudest of, is his affairs. The issue of Clinton having an affair with Monica Lewinsky is purely personal. It should have been discussed within his family and in his family alone. Many people seem to forget that Presidents before him have done the exact same thing. John F Kennedy is probably the best known with his affairs. This doesn't diminish the fact that Clinton took it one step farther and lied about the affairs.
He cared more about the impact of an idea rather than the intellectual characteristic of the idea. He is even praised by one Thatcher, a respected leader of her time as having good ideas (Gergen, 2002). The authors describes Clinton as one of the smartest presidents but who did a lot of dumb things. He was the president of contradictions.
Both of these presidents have made an impact on society in good or bad ways. This paper will be outlining those impacts. Bill Clinton was the 42nd president and before he became president, he was governor of Arkansas. The Clinton administration also helped to improve the relationship between America and Russia. Clinton did not have very much experience with foreign affaires.

On August 17, 1998, exactly one year after making the statement above, President Bill Clinton prepared to deliver a speech concerning a scandal that had gripped the nation for months. It is needless to say that this was an important moment during the Clinton administration. After accusations of sexual harassment, Clinton addressed the nation and admitted to having a relationship with Monica Lewinsky. In this critical speech Clinton set out to admit to wrong-doings, provide a few reasons for his
While it is too early to accurately judge the presidency of Bill Clinton, most would agree that he was successful in office. He was the first democrat to successfully be reelected since Franklin Roosevelt. Yet, when a sufficient amount of time has passed and historians attempt to categorize and analyze Bill Clinton’s presidency, his legacy will ultimately be tied to scandal. The numerous scandals that Clinton faced – and survived –were an important aspect of the Clinton presidency. On one hand, they showed the well-documented weakness of Clinton’s personal character – his infidelities, his evasiveness, and his lack of integrity. Yet, Clinton’s ability to survive these scandals are a true testament how politically cunning and brilliant the man was.
President Clinton was a man entangled in his own ruins. He went from one lie to another and eventually was so caught up in them, that he was trapped. These lies brought on his downfall as a great leader. He was flawed like everyone, yet being a representative of the people, you need to keep these flaws hidden so that weakness is not shown. His failings were revealed to the whole world and his pride and integrity fell with them. The world no longer saw a leader, but a broken man. This was his ultimate failure. However, another big failure Clinton had while in office was his failure to
