The comedy of Hitch and 50 First Dates are very different from each other. In 50 First Dates, the audience experiences very bold, but very crude humor. An example of this comedy is when Henry stands by the road to meet Lucy. He waiting for Lucy, like he has done in the past, to make a first introduction. He forges the plan involving his best friend, Ulla. When Lucy drives by, Ulla begins to “beat up,” Henry. The audience sees Lucy as a friendly and non violent girl; but when she notices Henry getting “beat up” it takes an unexpected turn. She grabs a bat from the back of her truck and wails on Henry’s friend. When Ulla flees the scene, Lucy runs after him and he falls. We then see Lucy repeatedly lifting the bat and slamming it back down. The
To begin, in both plays the men dismiss the women as trivial. In Trifles, when Mrs. Wright is being held in jail for the alleged murder of her husband, she worries about the cold weather
The characters on The Andy Griffith Show had a small comedic side, but the show was about doing the right thing and good moral values. Andy was constantly thinking of the other person(s) and there was always a good lesson learned every episode. In one episode, Andy and Otis decided to switch Aunt Bea’s pickles with store bought pickles, as the ones she made were terrible and they did not want to hurt her feelings or their stomachs. I Love Lucy on the other hand was all about the comedy. Lucy was frequently trying to find a way to get stuff done in an odd matter. In one of the episodes we watched Lucy tried to get the answers to a radio show she signed them up for as she found out Desi was not as smart as he made himself seem.
Rewinding back to the 1950’s, I Love Lucy was one of the most popular sitcoms on television. There were two main characters and they happen to be married. The husband’s name was Ricky and the wife’s name is Lucy. Ricky is a talented singer and part of a band. On the other hand, his wife strives to be famous and share her talents with the world. Her husband claims that she has no talent and she would be better off staying at home to be a housewife. Throughout the show, Lucy finds herself getting into trouble as she often tries to perform at Tropicana, the place in which Ricky works.
Writing Portfolio Resourcefulness is a characteristic that both the “Man” from the novel “The Road,” and Hugh Glass from the film “The Revenant,” have in common. Both characters are from a dismal point in time and are forced to make hundreds of life-threatening decisions each day. No matter how many obstacles fate puts in their way both characters rely on their determination to soldier on.
In all the stories that have come to be known none of them have broken from the foretold path. They all draw on the same element or at least a few to achieve a greater level of connection with the audience. The best stories say they are alive, polarized, catharsis, invoke the wisdom of the body, and always trust the path. For Hoodwinked, Little Evil, and Meet the Robinsons there is no difference, they each play along to the audience so that they may continue to live and grow.
The story by Joyce Carol Oates “Where Are You Going, Where Have You been?” published in 1969 and the film “smooth talk” 1985, explores the life of a beautiful fifteen-year-old girl Connie. Like normal teenagers, she’s at the age where they begin to explore their sexual desires and disrespect her parents. Her father is unconcerned and her mother is critical, Connie prefers to spend her time with her friends than her family. On one summer day, Connie chooses to skip a family barbecue and stay behind while her family goes out. A stranger later reaches to her at home and persuades her to go for a ride. Later Connie realizes the stranger is trying to rape her and probably kill her. She becomes scared and when she arrives home, she tries to mend her relationship with her mother and family (HANLON). The purpose of this paper is to critique the movie smooth talk by comparing and contrasting it to the short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” by Joyce Carol Oates.

A lot has happened over the this course learning everything from music in the 1960s to interrogation techniques of the current. The last ting we learned about our country is how Christians played a role in it. The history of we came to be in America, how we have an influence and the social enigmas with wanting it in politics. The main things we covered in the past eight weeks is how different events have effected or influenced the United States. We begin in the sixties and worked our way through the major events and crises of our country.
The auteur theory is best described as a director taking the role of author. Auteur comes from a French word, meaning author or originator. Just as a reader can detect patterns in written works of the same author, viewers can detect patterns in films directed by the same director(s), if they’re auteurists. They control as many aspects of the film as they can in order to fully embed it with their vision. The Coen brothers do just that; they, down to the writing of the script, work to control many of the elements of their films. The patterns and style, though with slight alterations with time, carry over in their many works. Fargo (1996) and No Country for Old Men (2007), though almost ten years apart, still adhere quite strongly to the same patterns and style typical of the Coen brothers.
Imperialism is a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through either diplomacy or military force. Africa and India were both victims of imperialism in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Europeans (mostly the British) conquered most of Africa and India which effected both countries in many different ways. Some of the things that happened during this time like the industrialization of the countries and some new more modern ways of life had a positive effect on the people. While this did happen, not all that happened was positive.

So, Mr. Wright busted the cage door and strangled the bird. Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters decided not tell the men about their discovery. The play ends with the characters exiting the kitchen and the women announcing that they have determined Mrs. Wright’s quilt making style. She “knots it” instead of “quilts it”. I think with women were referring to the fact that Mrs. Wright killed her husband, knotting the rope around his neck. But saying it in such a way that the men will continue thinking that they pay attention to ‘trifle’ matters. In trifles, the title is ironic as the reader sees what is silly and "trifle" to men, is the key to solving the murder. The title, the characters, the role of women and they all work together to paint not only a picture of Minnie’s life with John but by adding the lives of all women who live abuse under male domination. In Trifles, the male characters are regarded as intellectually superior to their wives, who are treated as rather childish for their concern in domestic details. But, in fact, the author makes a feminist glory as she describes her female characters with such a witty way to secretly win over male

Throughout the year the class has read several different novels that all had common themes to string them together. The first novel we read was Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, this novel was the typical stereotypical love story where everything works out perfectly and everyone finds love. The setting of this novel was pre-Victorian rule around the end of the 18th century, and had a tremendous effect on how certain male and female characters acted. Although, during the time the characters actions are reasonable it is a key aspect on what makes this novel such a great satire of the dating scene. Another novel that was read was The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, in this novel about two main characters named Jack and Algernon who both have alter egos for different reasons, but ultimately they are used to help their dating life. In the last novel that was read was Bridget Jones’ Diary by Helen Fielding ,a middle aged women named Bridget Jones is trying to get her life together rapidly in enough time to find her a spouse. During the completion of these three novels a commonality seems to have risen. The theme of parents in specifics mothers, and their overbearing role in the dating lives of their children. Also another theme that ran hand in hand with the theme about mothers was the theme about fathers, and their lack of a role in the lives of their children. Yet, no matter the degree of involvement in the lives of their children the only thing that seemed
