Of Mice and Men affected society with the story it conveys. It is written with language and content presenting its time. The story takes place in the 1930’s around the time of the Great Depression. George and Lennie are like any other average American at the time. Their push was to keep looking for ways to have a subtle life like another other desired at the time. Although finding jobs and places to stay was hard enough, Lennie tended to make them have to look for a new job constantly. Lennie was like any other person, he was just a little slower and softer than most. As a child Lennie had an accident which caused him to have cognitive problems. Lennie Small is a big and strong guy who has the qualities a hard worker should have. The problem is he still sees everything in the eyes of a child. He doesn’t know his strength affecting every choice he makes. That is why he is accompanied by George Milton, he is Lennie’s opposite. They make a great duo and can do a lot as long as they have each other. George keeps Lennie out of trouble and Lennie helps George with getting jobs by his good working skills. …show more content…
George deeply cares about Lennie like any other person has for a very close person. When someone cares that much for a person they’d do anything to keep them healthy and happy. As the book is read it seems like George will always be able to keep Lennie out of trouble, but Lennie seems to attract trouble. Which makes George think a lot about Lennie’s future and their situation. George is thrown a lot of red flags making him come to a
Carlson had three main reason to shoot Candy’s dog it stunk, it was old, and was in pain according to him. The dog stunk up the bunkhouse so the guys couldn't sleep at night. The dog could barely walk and looked terrible and filled with pain. So Carlson said “i'll take him out back and shoot him, won't even feel a thing”. At first candy was not going to let him shoot him but realized it was for the better.
He can rarely think for himself and make his own decision. “I want you to stay with me, Lennie. Jesus Christ, somebody’d shoot you for a coyote if you were by yourself” (Steinbeck, p. 14). George does not trust lennie to live by himself. He thinks Lennie would not be able to hold his own and get a job. George is sympathetic towards lennie so he lets lennie stay with him. Lennie Would make a mistake like touching a girl for too long and hurting her which would cause everyone to run after him and he could not do that without George. This makes us sympathetic toward george because he makes bad decisions and gets himself into a lot of
I believe that George should have killed Lennie rather than, the ranch hands. I think this because that Ranch hands would have hurt Lennie but they were still going to kill him. George killed Lennie quick and painlessly, if it were the ranch hands Lennie would have suffered, with George he did not even know he was going to die. Know George could have just let Lennie run and hope that no one finds him, but George even said himself “ Lennie you can’t do anything without me”, or something like that. If George would have let Lennie run it is very likely that he would either, die from starvation, or get in trouble and just keep getting in trouble, or he kills another person again on accident and gets killed from that. Either way Lennie is screwed
George and Lennie have been traveling together for a long time. George promised Lennie’s late Aunt Clara he would look after Lennie. George is a friend and mainly parent figure to Lennie. He protects him and they keep each other company. Lennie has a childlike innocence that got him into trouble before. Now, George has had to make a very hard choice for Lennie’s benefit.
Lennie, a muscular character without a feeling of what is taking place around him, depends totally on what George instructs him to do. Lennie is all animal great without a hint of insight into his body. George, on the other hand, is an exceptionally knowledgeable man. George has expectations and goals he wishes to meet. he is a person that can struggle for and is not dependant on all people but himself.
The mice and men movie was very spot on it was exactly how I pictured it in the book from the liting and the sounds and dust and the music in the begging you could tell what was happening right from the start if you read the book with the lady running and screaming everything was perfect from the train and when he found that dead mouse it was just perfect the acting was great even the yes lennie you can tend the rabbits was
In my opinion, Of Mice and Men is a story of dreams, mercy, friendship, and loneliness. All of these themes played a different part in developing the characters’ personalities, goals, actions, and thoughts. The two main characters, George and Lennie, were especially affected by each of these ideas to form who they were. The unlikely pair also had a lot of affect on each other and how they developed throughout the book.
The common emotion these two dogs caused the narrator was embarrassment. In paragraph one, it talks about a Scotch terrier that had puppies out in the public. This states, “...my moment of keenest embarrassment was the time a Scotch terrier named Jeannie, who had just had six puppies...had the unexpected seventh and last at the corner of Eleventh Street and Fifth Avenue…” This would be quite embarrassing just due to the fact that it took place on a street corner. While the narrator’s dog was having its seventh and final puppy, there were people walking, biking, and driving cars. Lots of people would have seen this which would be a huge embarrassment to practically anybody. Also, in paragraph two it clearly states that the other dog, a large
Of Mice and Men was a book written by John Steinbeck that portrayed the life of two men that found work at a ranch. The two men were George Milton and Lenny Small; they have an undying friendship towards one another but that friendship is ended by a quick negative act of generosity by the other.
Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa, once stated that “we owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.” Mandela’s belief reveals that society has a great influence on the minds of its youth. If children are protected from a life of violence, they will grow up to be a strong, healthy, and ideal representation of our world; in contrast, if the youth are exposed to violence and fear, they themselves will become destructive. Books, for instance, are a common influence on the youth due to their varying content. A case in point of books’ effects on young adults is the controversy over John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men because
Despite arguments from advocates of the book, the film in fact offers an even more vivid establishment of mood through its splendid acting. The many talented actors in the film powerfully communicates the lonesome mood of the story. Their striking performances bring Steinbeck’s already exceptionally built atmosphere onto an entirely new, lifelike level. Mere use of words on paper is difficult to convey mood in such an eloquent and rich fashion. A major example of this is the outstanding performance of Gary Sinise, as George, towards the end of the film. In this tragic scene, George finds Lennie on their previously decided meeting place in the face of trouble. As the big man questions whether George is going to “give him hell”, the smaller guy’s
In the book Lennie is not all there. Lennie has a severe mental issue that causes him to not be able to think or not do things to get him in trouble. Lennie represents handicapped people who can’t be alonxzr4e. George takes care of lennie and acts like a father figure towards him. Lennie got him and George in trouble while they were working in Weed so they had to make a run. While working in Weed a
Of Mice and Men Of Mice and Men is an American literary classic. The novel was written by John Steinbeck in 1937. It tells a story of Lennie and George, two men looking for work during the time of the Great Depression. The novel reveals that Lennie has a mental illness and George is held responsible for taking care of him. Being set in the mid 1930’s , many people did not understand mental illnesses, hence the actions and strong language of the characters.
For George, relying on Lennie is a handful. Lennie’s personality is different from other characters in the novel. From the way he talks and behave, Lennie sounds like a person who uses their left brain a lot. From what it looks like from chapter one, Lennie is a person who forgets things easily. George is there to help him remember and tell him what is right and wrong.
Lennie Small, a mentally impaired man, is first introduced to us traveling with George. George, however, is not related to Lennie. Lennie travels with George because no one else understands him like he does. Lennie says, “Because…because I got you to look after me, and you got me
