Comparison Of Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Last Olympian

The characters in my book are very interesting, there are 3 main characters. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth. Percy is the son of Poseidon who is a Greek God. A powerful God who rules over all the oceans and everything in them. Then there is Percy's best friend Grover, is a Satyr, that is someone who is half horse & half man. Annabeth is the daughter of Athena who is a Greek Goddess.There are other important characters as well in the story like Percy's mom, or the other Gods. Percys personality in the beginning of the book is best described as shyness or acts like he doesn't care, but over the book he expands out of that stage and becomes more outgoing and courageous. Grover is fearless, he has to be because he is Percys protector. But

In the book Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Percy is your typical 12-year-old boy who is a troublemaker in school and lives with his mother’s abusive husband. Percy’s life changes when he accused of stealing Zeus’ master bolt and attacked by monsters. Percy’s mother is killed along the way towards a camp called Camp Half-Blood and trains his heritage as a demigod. Percy is then sent on a heroic quest, with friends, to prove his innocence and along the way, rescue his mother from Hades. After a long and arduous journey of being chased by monsters, Percy managed to return the lightning bolt and save his mother. Percy is then betrayed by a close friend, as the friend was the thief, and escaped while warning them of the true mastermind.

Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief displays many qualities of being a hero. According to the article, “The Hero’s Journey”, there are many different stages of being a hero. Percy acquires many characteristics of being a hero. Some of the stages that Percy relates to are: “The Ordinary World”, “The Call to Adventure”, “Allies/ Helpers”, and “Master of Two Worlds/ Restoring the World”. Therefore, Percy Jackson is presented as a hero from the different stages of “The Hero’s Journey”.

Percy Jackson and the Story of Perseus in Greek Mythology are both very well known. But taking a closer look they are more than a movie and a greek legend. They are stories that draw off each other and change the story to fit the time. For Percy it’s Modernized, but for Perseus it was in the Greek era. In this essay you will learn that Percy Jackson draws on the original legend of Perseus by generally keeping the plot the same and the characters. Although, the characters are a bit more modernized to be easier to connect to. It changes the legend in adding on a couple of other greek legends to add depth. This is shown through the plot modernization that takes place in real places, the Characters that are modernized but are the same on the inside,

that Greek gods exist, and have been closely observing western culture and ideas. The author draws parallels to Percy’s life, who is an American teenager, with that of Greek heroes. This parallel helps the readers to relate to the book, essentially engaging the young readers to learn about Greek mythology and the lessons of life that it teaches, in a not so bland way. The protagonist of the novel, Percy Jackson, is revealed to be special in some way. This section also develops other supporting characters, such as Chiron, Percy’s teacher, who also was mentor to Hercules and Grover, who is Percy’s sidekick, a multi-dimensional character with his own past, hopes and concerns. The association of Chiron and Percy foretells that Percy will carry on heroic deeds in future. Percy fights Minotaur, a monster that even Theseus fought and defeated. In the process of defeating Minotaur, Percy loses his mother, which he feels was his last hope to returning to his normal human life. By drawing parallels between Percy and various heroes of Greek Mythology, the author shows Percy in the light of a hero. A hero who is yet to prove his worth in the Camp Half-Blood. His encounter with Clarisse at a bathroom in camp, allows him to show his strength, which was very similar to that of his father Poseidon, but also instils in some ways fear amongst the camp

Another traditional qualification that Percy Jackson and Gilgamesh share is that they have both captured the interest of several deities. However, they differ in that deities are generally either against or neutral to Percy Jackson from the get-go while Gilgamesh only later creates his own enemies as consequences for his actions. Before Percy Jackson was born, the big three, including Percy Jackson’s father, Poseidon, swore to stop having children with mortals. Percy Jackson’s birth broke this oath. Also, Zeus’s lightning bolt was stolen and as Chiron told Percy, “You could easily have snuck into Olympus. Zeus believes he has found his thief.” Gilgamesh made his enemies when he slew Humbaba and rebuffed Ishtar’s advances. Percy and his class are on a field trip. He has a friend called Grover ( who turns out to be a satyr sent to look after him and a teacher he feels he can trust and who believes in him( who turns out to be the centaur, Chiron)

Percy wakes up at a place called camp half-blood. Camp half-blood is created by magical borders in order to protect demigods so they can continue to train while being safe. After entering camp half-blood Percy learns about his identity of being a demigod. A demigod is child from a human and Greek god parent. He learns that he’s the son of one the three major Gods, Poseidon. Also, that his mother is very much alive but is kidnapped by Hades one of the three major Gods as well. Percy then goes into training and utilizes his dragon to be a positive trait that helps him settle into his new life. As his dyslexia functions for mythology and his ADHD helps him keep moving in

This is when Percy realized that it was Ares all along trying to start a war in the Olympus. He wasn’t the one who stole the items, but it was him who used the temper of the two gods, Poseidon and Zeus, knowing that they would eventually start a war.

The Odyssey, written by Homer, tells the story of the hero Odysseus as he tries to make his way home from the battle at Troy. His journey is filled with hardships and opportunities to grow and change as a man and become a better person. Percy Jackson and The Olympians: Sea of Monsters, written by Rick Riordan, is about two 12/13-year-old friends, Percy and Annabeth, who are children of Poseidon and Athena respectively. They go on a quest to rescue their friends and the camp they attend, where children of the gods are protected. Percy and Annabeth also go through hardships which help them to grow and develop characteristics that are valued in society. My original thought when comparing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief the movie and Classical mythology was that there would be many more references to the myth of Perceus than any other myth throughout the movie in its entirety. That’s where I was wrong. After watching the movie again and researching the different hero myths my opinion has changed. My new thoughts are that the movie is not influenced by the myth of Perceus any more than other hero myths. The movie ties together many different heroes’ stories and mixes them together to make a wonderful story about a young boy. The movie was based on a book series written by Rick Riordan.

Rick Riordan did an amazing tale with this novel. Filled with short stories you learn a lot about each of the Greek gods, while keeping entertain with Percy’s side quotes. From Aphrodite

The film does a good job of accurately representing some of the minor characters from mythology as well. Percy’s friend Grover is a satyr, and displays a strong interest in many of the females in the film. Chiron, leader of the centaurs makes an appearance as well, disguised as one of Percy’s teachers. He later reveals himself to be a centaur and the leader of the Demigod Camp that Percy travels to. Charon also makes an appearance, and only allows Percy and his friends to travel to the Underworld once they have paid him. As mentioned before, Medusa appears in the film, and expresses her anger towards Athena for transforming her into a monster. She also tells Percy that she ‘used to date [Poseidon],’ which is a more family-friendly version of the Roman story where Poseidon rapes her in Athena’s temple.
