The movie “The Outsiders” directed by Francis Ford Coppola and made in 1983 was an excellent adaptation of the book. The outsiders movie is about young teanagers in gangs trying to show who is the better gang and who is the strongest and the beast. The actors in the movie were ponyboy, darry, dally, soda and johnny are the main characters in this movie NARRATIVE----------- So they think that the only way to settle who is the best gang is to have a huge war. They think that the city is way too small to have more than one gang and the greasers wanted to be the one gang. So they arranged a war and called it the rumble .It would only be a fist fight only no weapons just bare hands . They started at the family's house the main character Ponyboys almost 15 years old and is the youngest out of the hole gangs on either side. He has two brothers named Sodapop and Darry. Darry is the oldest of the family because his parents died in a crash. They were driving over a main train track and the train came out of knoware and hit them on their driver side . They died at the crash . After that Darry was never the same . He turned hard ,dropping out of high school and started searching for a job. He found one and he stepped into a father figure at a early age so he lost most of his childhood . He brought home food ,money and the basic needs to provide for his family. After a year or so they started looking like a family . They went to go se a movie one night and ponyboy, dally and johnny sat down and started talking with two girls named Chary and Masha and before they knew it they had two new friends the only problem was they were soces and on the other ganges side but they didn't let that stop there friendship . Right at the start Dally starts to be rued and they don't like it at all . He asked if anyone wanted a soda and right away the girls said no but the boys said yeah so he went to get them . The girls ask Pony and Johnny if they were going to be like Dally and they said right away no. So they all start talking and Dally comes back with the sodas for all them and dally handed Cherry the soda but she poured it all over Dally. He got really mad and leaves. Right when he leaves two boys come back
Darrel Curtis Ponyboy’s oldest brother. Darrel, known as “Darry,” both in the book and in the movie. He is a twenty-year-old greaser who is raising Ponyboy because their parents have died in a car crash. Strong, athletic, and intelligent, Darry has quit school in the book and in the movie. He works two jobs to hold the family together. One of the leader of the greasers, he becomes an parent role model for Ponyboy. He also makes good chocolate cake, which he and his brothers eat every day for breakfast in the book but the movie really does not mention it. The other greasers call him “Superman.”
Ponyboy Curtis - The youngest Curtis brother, 14 years old. He is the narrator of the story. Ponyboy is very smart and interested in culture and movies, different from his other brothers. Ponyboy gets good grades and due to that he doesn’t get along with Darryl (Darry) his older brother because Darry wants to push Ponyboy to be good in school unlike him and his other brother Soda. He loves his brother Sodapop more than he even loved his own mom and dad. He is the only member of the gang who is smart and is a good student.
The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.
I liked The Outsiders book/movie because it’s about a group of greasers that are more like family. They have a lot of struggles but get through them together. They compete with a rival gang called the Socs and it gets very intense. Personally I can’t chose which if the book or the movie is better because they both contribute different parts. This paper is about the differences from the book and movie with the characters, relations, and scenes.
Has it ever been easy to be categorized? “It’s rough all over” is a famous quote that the character Cherry Valance said in the 1967 classic novel, The Outsiders. This quote created a theme for the movie and the novel. The Outsiders was written by S.E. Hinton. This story shows how teenagers are split by social classes and categories. The two social classes are the Socs and the greasers. The classic novel was made into an award winning movie in 1983, that was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The movie and the novel made an impression on young teens and adults who came upon these. The movie was based on the novel of The Outsiders, but there were many differences between the two. The two had many similarities, however they had made dramatic changes to the movie.
“The Outsiders” movie and novel are both great. After finishing both I found out they are very similar , but they also have some differences. The movie and novel both share similarities that are very alike. For example , both have the same characters , the church burns down , and the greasers and Socs both hate each other. They might have these major similarities ,but they have a lot of very minor differences.
Prior to Dally’s instructions, they caught a train to a ghostly town called Windrixville to hide in an abandoned creaky church. Lonely and worried, the boys patiently waited for Dally to save them when the coast is clear in their hometown on the east side of Oklahoma. A few days later, Pony and Johnny went to dairy queen in Dally’s red stolen corvair later to find their hideout in blazing morone flames. Rashly, Pony and Johnny run into the fiery chapel to rescue a cluster of tots from burning to oblivion. In the process, Dally runs to help but is soon smashed by the burning roof of the church. While the kids were not hurt, Dally and Johnny get badly injured with Dally's arm broken and Johnny covered in 3rd degree burn and a busted back. Pony is reunited to his older brothers soda and Darry as well as the rest of the gang. Pony and two-bit visit dallas and johnny soon to find out that there is gonna be a rumble and they won't have Dally to help them bruise the socs. Sadly Johnny passes out cold befor pony and two-bit even left. On their way home, they met up with cherry and chatted for awhile then went home and got ready for the rumble that night with the
This story makes a great book and movie, they are the same and very different. I enjoyed both of them about the same. The book never bored me and the movie kept me on the edge of the seat. This article will tell you about the differences and similatities in the characters, relationships, and scenes.
The movie and novel both share similar qaulities in many way”s .The “Outsiders”movie and novel are both gruesome and sad .After finishing both movie and book they are actually somewhat similar .
In the movie several rough things had happened. One of the things were that he was shot by the store clerk rather than just robbing it and getting away with it like he did in the book. Also in the beginning of the movie they only showed the scar on Ponyboy’s face instead of showing a scene of him getting jumped as they told about in the book. The things that had happened throughout the movie and book are very dangerous either
“They grew up on the outside of society. They weren't looking for a fight. They were looking to belong,” captures the essence of a bestselling novel that has captured the hearts of many. The Outsiders, written by S.E Hinton, is a coming-of-age story about a group of teens struggling within a fight between social classes. It is an emotional and compelling that was eventually adapted into a movie. The movie has been critically acclaimed and watched by thousands. Even though, the movie was based on the book and contains close similarities, there are differences regarding the characters, the plot, and the theme between the two.
Why do people hate? S.E. Hinton explores this question in the 1965 classic novel The Outsiders. Francis Ford Coppola brought the story to the silver screen in 1983 and introduced the world to some young actors that would become mega stars. Both the novel and movie deal with the rough and tough world of high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Even though the movie is based on the novel there are some striking differences that change the experience for the audience.
Ponyboy’s parents died in an automobile crash when he was younger so his older brother Darry raised him and his other brother Sodapop. The gang that Ponyboy and his brothers are in has seven people: Steve, Two-Bit, Johnny, Dally, Sodapop, Darry, and Ponyboy. Even though the greasers are labeled as mean, Ponyboy shows how you can break down borders and be optimistic, kind, and amiable. In the book, Ponyboy Curtis showed on many occasions, how optimistic he is, even during hard
Dally, being profoundly tight, approaches the girls in an unmannerly way, while Johnny and Ponyboy are compassionate and good-hearted towards them. Cherry and Ponyboy quickly become friends as they get to know each other’s interests. After Ponyboy begins to walk Cherry home with Marcia and Two-Bit, they are approached by a group of drunk Socs, one of which is supposedly Cherry’s boyfriend. The Socs threaten the three greasers however, Cherry saves them from being assaulted by getting in the car with her boyfriend. Subsequently, Two-Bit leaves Johnny and Ponyboy by themselves, in which they fall asleep in the vacant lot. Moments later, Ponyboy wakes up realizing he had slept much longer than he had intended, and returns home only to find Darry angrier than ever. Darry proceeds to slap Ponyboy out of anger, which causes him to flee and run off with Johnny, who was back in the lot. Thinking that he just needed a while to cool off, the same Socs from before drive up in the Corvair and advance Johnny and Ponyboy. After a one-sided argument takes place against Ponyboy and Johnny,
While hiding at the church, johhny suprises ponyboy and dally that he wants to go back to their town and turn himself in to the police. Dally, who is very supriesed about his descion, tells johnny absolutly not because he does not want to see pony harden as a person in prison like he himself did. However, johnny inists this is what he has to do and the boys decide to leave. When the trio were leaving they saw that the church was on fire.
