“There are two tragedies in life. One is to lose your heart’s desire. The other is to gain it.” This quote is very appropriate for this time of year. It's Valentine’s Day, and we are getting ready to read about Romeo and Juliet. This quote is talking about how it is just as much of a tragedy to gain your love, as it is to lose your love.
One tragedy is to lose your heart’s desire. The first tragedy is obvious. Everyone knows it is a tragedy when you lose your love. Losing someone you love is terrible, obviously because you love them. Most love stories are about someone losing their love and then getting back together. In the real world you don't always get your love back, and that feeling of emptiness and sorrow doesn't go away as easily.
The
In Romeo and Juliet, adversity plays a large role in keeping the two star-crossed lovers apart, and after a short taboo romance, it is evident that their story ends in tragedy. The feud between their two families, both fate and destiny, encouragement from non-family members, and the deaths of the young couple, ultimately make this love story a tragedy.
In the beautiful streets of Verona, after Tybalt had killed Mercutio, Tybalt appears again, but furious. Romeo wants to kill Tybalt to avenge Mercutio’s death. Again in the streets, another fight happens, but is between Romeo and Tybalt. While fighting vigorously, Romeo stabs Tybalt and Tybalt falls. Benvolio shouts, “Romeo, run! Tybalt is dead and if you get caught by the prince, he will kill you! Run away!” As Tybalt dies, Romeo shouted, “Oh, how unlucky I am!” A few minutes later, the prince entered with Juliet and her parents and Romeo’s parents. When Benvolio explained to the prince what had happened, the prince decided to exile Romeo from Verona instead of killing him.
With Halloween being right around the corner, children are preparing for ABC’s “Thirteen Nights of Halloween,” parents are picking up pumpkins to celebrate the Celtic holiday, and the urge for a good horror story is emerging. The monster, such as vampires or zombies, is taking the spotlight and it’s hard to ignore. From Dante’s Inferno to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, being frightened has not only been one of people’s favorite pastimes, but a way for us to explain the paranormal and unrevealed. In recent times however, there seems to be a shift from demonic creatures of the night to over sexualized human-like creatures who hide amongst us in the day. In this essay, I will show the gradual humanizing of the vampire and how it has morphed from a demonic creature damned by God into a creature with a big heart that is not much different from us.
Tragedy is an unfortunate event that happens due to the choices a person makes, the uncontrollable circumstances they are placed in and other people’s actions. Romeo and Juliet’s individual choices have a major part to play in their tragic deaths but they are absolutely not the only cause. The star-crossed lovers are put in situations out of their control and take their own lives in an attempt to be together, thus ending the ageless quarrel between their families. Without the outside influences, such as fate, the star-crossed lovers may never have taken their lives. Although Romeo and Juliet’s rash decisions are not the sole cause of their death, they do play a major part in the outcome.
In love, in hate, your actions ruled by your emotions believing whole heartedly in them and yet tragedy comes, your disregard for the life you were meant to lead buries you, was it worth it? Romeo and Juliet's belief in their love is why they didn’t regret the outcome. Romeo and Juliet knew their fate and ignored it the repercussions tremendous but not unexpected. The consequences are worth your actions if you believe in your actions.
“For never was a story more of woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” - William Shakespeare. Many relationships strive, but others will have a tragic ending to them. This sometimes cannot be prevented, and we must accept fate for what it is.
When people think of love, they generally think of positive emotions. Romeo and Juliet is a well-known tragic love story written by Shakespeare. In the story, Romeo and Juliet constantly fight for love, despite the many obstacles the run into. Love is what brought them together, but could love be Romeo and Juliet’s downfall? Going into detail, the emotion of love caused Romeo and Juliet to take many risks and distort their ability to make proper decisions based on logic. That’s why love is to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death.
In the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare shows us the true consequences of forbidden love and what it is like to love someone in a way where love cannot be expressed and the feelings are so indescribable. Love this powerful actually changes the lives and fate of two young innocent people who lost themselves in each other and couldn’t do what they wanted because of who they were. When it comes to defining love there is no true definition of love. When it comes to fate there is no true definition either; fate is out of our control, and is determined by the super natural. And loss, loss affects everyone, it affects people in different ways however it’s always there and sometimes comes when we least expect it to. Especially in Romeo
In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story, but it is not tragic because it is about love lost. It is tragic because it is a story about the suicide of two children who ruin their lives under the illusion that what they are doing is for love. If Romeo and Juliet truly understood themselves enough to love themselves and other people, they would have thought out the consequences of their actions more, and the whole tragedy could have been
Instead of talking and meeting secretly, cell phones and smartphone apps can take over most of the secret meetings, for instance, the balcony scene. Instead, apps such as Skype and Snapchat can be used to contact each other. Juliet have been very desperate and she said “I must hear from thee every day in the hour, for in a minute there are many days.”(III, iv, 44) Juliet was very worried about Romeo and hated the nurse for delaying Romeo’s new “What devil art thou, that dost torment me thus? This torture should be roar'd in dismal hell.”(III, ii, 45) With GPS calling and texting, Juliet can be with Romeo at anytime and know exactly what he is doing. Also, Friar Laurence's plan would work out perfectly and the tragedy can be surely prevented. On the other hand, factors like race and family background may affect the play.
"I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or, who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna wind up”. This quote from Titanic shows the similarities to “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, by William Shakespeare. Through the use of fatal flaws and social differences, both stories’ tragic endings help express the theme that people can still fall in love despite society’s opposition.
Romeo and Juliet, a classic play by William Shakespeare, is known to many as a tragedy. But what makes this play tragic? Audiences favor this story because of the emotions evoked from a tale of love that sees two young souls torn apart. However, Romeo and Juliet when under my own definition of tragedy, does not resemble a tragic play. While the death of Mercutio and the deaths of Romeo and Juliet seem tragic, the story does not show one failing when trying to reach their full potential, instead the audience sees a forbidden love and death as a result, which does not demonstrate tragedy. Instead, Romeo and Juliet face flaws from within their families and society, forcing them to stay apart due to conflict. While both Romeo and Juliet try to reach the goal of being together and fail, the flaws of others cause the conflict, not the flaws of themselves. My definition surrounds the idea that the flaws of oneself leads to his or her demise, meaning that the play misses a key characteristic of the definition of tragedy. Both characters seem to die a “tragic death,” however, their death can only be considered sad or upsetting, especially to the audience. This play instead consists of somber scenes that show aspects of a tragedy, but not enough to place this play in a tragic category in the classic definition or in my own definition because the flaws of the main characters do not cause the fall of the characters as they try to reach their full potential. If a character who fell as a
In the tragic love story Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare shows how although the power of love can bring positive experiences, it can also bring destruction and drastic changes to the lives of all involved. He illustrates this idea through numerous poetic devices: creative metaphors, meaningful puns, and character-related contrast. Romeo and Juliets’ love was rushed, impulsive, and created sorrow for both parties involved.
To begin, this essay will compare and contrast the similarities and differences throughout the movie version of Romeo and Juliet and the play that we have been reading in class.
