The working class can relate to the theme of the short story “Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket,” by Jack Finney. More often than not, people strive to get to the top of their profession, but at what cost? The majority of people spend countless hours of their life working to provide for themselves and their loved ones. The irony of working all these hours to provide for your loved ones is that you will not see them nearly as much as desired because of work. In my opinion, the above passage is important to the story because Tom is now inside lying on the floor as a new man who knows what is important in life.

A hero is born is how every story starts with the same story, climax, and ending, but with this specific story this hero wasn’t born he was created. Throughout the book and the cases being fought, Bryan Stevenson is the hero; the man in quest of justice. His motive and moral code is defending the innocents and protecting their lives within the corrupt justice system. With each case, he begins to see what he is capable of and how he holds the lives of these people. Such examples would be the puritans, acknowledging their sins and trying to be redeemed by God. However, finding redemption comes with difficulties in their path to gain their redemption. Although, for Bryan Stevenson he is trying to find the innocence in these felons on death

Immigration is a huge part of the American dream and it's far too difficult for people who want to be here, to be here legally. Prospective naturalized citizens must collect all necessary paperwork, pay a $725 application fee, and a $70 fee for fingerprinting (How much does it cost… US Citizenship?). Applicants must also have lived in the U.S. for 5 years and be a permanent citizen. Immigrants also have a wait time of up to two years, meaning after they spend the required 5 years, they must wait even longer. This is costly in terms of fees and a working visa in order to be a permanent citizen. The project is called Working Class Hero (WCH) and will seek to mitigate these problems and greatly improve our country’s immigration process.

There have been many people, known as artists, who have tried to change the world through their art. “Art” can be paintings, music, dances, sculptures, literature, or photography. There are many ways to communicate and express ones feelings but The Beatles did it through their popular music. Although they didn’t focus on changing the world of politics or try to protest through their music they have songs that focus on those exact two things.

The first task that I needed to do and, that I am still doing, is a literature review. Although it is not my first doing it, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Its planning is a good starting point.

     Rock ‘n’ roll music came of age in the sixties which was a period in the nation’s history when a young generation expressed their anguish and sense of alienation to the country’s social establishments by searching for new answers to the age-old questions concerning the meaning of life, the value of the individual, and the nature of truth and spirituality (Harris 306). The classic rock music which was created during this period gave form and substance to this search. Songs such as “My Generation” by the Who recorded the keen sense of alienation that young people felt from the past and the “Establishment” and it also showed the keen sense of community they felt among themselves.      Classic albums such as the Beatles’ “White Album,” the Who’s “Who’s Next,” Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited, and Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” capture what was essential about the time because they were both a result of that time and because they helped to produce it by reinforcing the younger generation’s feelings of alienation and separation.      Although

Pink Floyd is one of the most known Psychedelic Rock bands to ever exist. They were a game changer within the music business and appeared countless times on British’s top 100 list. Most of their music including the album “The Dark Side of the Moon” had important political subject to talk about. They were apart of the British Invasion (although the band itself originated from Cambridge & London, England).

    The Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution set out to guarantee the equal rights of citizens. It decrees, “No State shall deprive any person of life, liberty or property...nor deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws”. Despite this written assertion of seeming equality for all citizens, various groups faced hardships and discrimination in the century following the Fourteenth Amendment's ratification. This amendment would continuously interpreted and reinterpreted as social movements cited it as cause for their mobilization and activism. Two social advocacy movements were (and are) the Civil Rights movement that gained momentum in the 1960s and the Disability Rights Movement of the 1970s.

After listening to the song, I can automatically tell what the message of the song is that Lennon is portraying, and that is world peace. Lennon does an amazing job establishing his credibility in this song, thus creating credibility within his audience, credibility is part of Ethos. Throughout his musical career right up until his death in 1980, Lennon was heavily involved in peace activities. During his musical career he was part of the world famous Beatles, and this gained him world fame and allowed for his messages to be heard across the world. Lennon created even more Ethos for himself in a controversial album, where he posed naked with his wife, Yoko Ono, in there bed. This showed his fan base and the world that he was truly devoted to peace and love. Without his famous involvement in the Beatles, Lennon would never have gained his spotlight in the world allowing for his messages of peace and love to be heard. His ethos was within his people, not where he got his ideas. Lennon felt what the world felt, and thus his credibility.

Social Justice is a huge topic in our society. Its touches on important subjects such as labor laws, environmental rights (racism), poverty, etc. These topics are things that many people have views on whether they agree or disagree. Many artist took note of this and made songs about this and voiced what they thought was right or how they saw the act.

John Lennon’s song “Imagine” was released in October 1971. Imagine was the most successful single that Lennon produced and is perhaps the best song in music history for its strong message. He wrote this song during the climax of the Vietnam War as an anti-war song. At this time in history peace movements were popular because of all the wars happening that involved the country and its people. His song is timeless as its message still applies today. It is true that everyone wants peace, but this picture Lennon illustrates is a fantasy. The song Imagine is a fantasy imagination of John Lennon that pushes the ideology of communism through its resemblance to an unrealistic society.

Social criticism examines literature in the cultural, economic, and political context in which it is written or received. Keeping this definition in mind, it is necessary to understand the political, cultural and economic environment in which Lennon the above famous words.
