"Hello I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" (Wikipedia). Many people who watch television or online videos might come across the "Get a Mac" advertisement campaign launched by Apple Inc. personifying the more youthful Justin Long as the cool, hip Mac system and the older, more seasoned John Hodgman as the PC. The "Get a Mac" commercial series depicts the efficiency and user friendliness of Mac while comparing it to the problematic PC. Though the commercial series might seem convincing in favor of the Mac products, the commercial would obviously hide the flaws of the Macs. The actually masks the fact that PC comes out on top at the end of the day with great efficiency, the ability to do a diverse range of work, and its user-friendliness. But now …show more content…
Let us start with the hardware. Building a computer is not easy because finding compatible components is important but once the computer is built, analyzing the key components is pretty simple. Personally, I have a self-built PC which runs top of the line components that is more advanced and affordable than that of an Mac hardware. In the case of a Mac computer, the hardware is integrated which makes keeping up with the latest components such as better CPUs, and graphics card unavailable. Furthermore, in Intel's PC vs. Mac article (Intel makes components for both Mac and PC), Intel states, "Apple's range of product is narrower than that of PCs" even though the Mac system "can be robustly outfitted" (which means add in more gadgets such as web cams and microphones )(Intel). Though the Macs already have web cams and microphones on the system, PC users can surpass these tools and gadgets with even better high definition cameras and studio quality microphones with one quick install. Having said that, it is crystal clear that PC computers have the edge when it comes to computer components because of the PC's ability to upgrade its hardware consistently to make performance more efficient which is a necessity that the Mac computers do not provide in the constantly advancing technological world. In conjunction with computer hardware, the importance of a user-friendly operating system and it's ability to perform an diverse range of tasks is the
In our modern world, everyone needs a computer, so there are lots out there, and because of that variety, we see their ads everywhere. This ad for the new chromebook is a good example (“The Chromebook: the (always) New Computer). The ad is geared towards the general public, so there isn’t much that makes it unique. It uses the generic and vague logic and statistics you see in most ads with lots of imagery sprinkled with ethos to make you want this computer so you can be just like those happy and successful people shown using it. I’ll be analysing the rhetoric used in this ad to show just how these executives are trying to persuade you to buy their computer.
The commercial is of two leading men, one acting as a Mac (an Apple product) and another man acting as a PC (a Microsoft product). Microsoft is the leading competitor in computers against Apple. The two men, Mac, and PC are trying to sell themselves to a potential buyer, Megan. Megan lists all her desires and needs in a computer with “no viruses, no headaches, and a fast processor”. Behind the leading man acting as a PC, there are about ten men also acting as a PC. As Megan listed her desires, more PCs left until there were none, allowing Mac to “rise above the crowds and bask alone in the glory” as Megan chose to buy a Mac (Solomon 167). This continues to show the versatility of Apple computers and how Mac eliminates the competition by satisfying all the potential buyer’s requirements. This is also a slight form of bandwagon as Megan decides to choose a Mac instead of a PC. At first glance, the commercial appeals to egalitarianism as PC and Mac act as a form of camaraderie and equal playing ground to get Megan, the buyer. When in reality, Mac is dishonest as he becomes competitively elitist and decides to “rise above the crowd and bask alone in the glory” by “winning” Megan as a potential customer (Solomon 167). The paradox of the American Dream that everyone is given an equal opportunity to rise to success, however, there are suspicions that people. Solomon analysis of Woody Guthrie’s anthem “This land is your land and this land is my land” is applicable to Apple (167). Apple “increases the “my” which would be his customers, at the expense of the “your”, PC’s customers. Apple’s dishonesty allows PC to make a fool of himself thus losing the competition and giving up customer while Mac just easily gains from PCs
Most of the people see Apple computers as “fancy expensive toys” but in fact they are beautiful and powerful tools. I have used both, in fact I started using Windows and of course being basically a monopoly everybody was forced to use windows by those days. The first version of windows I ever use was Windows 3.1 and despite almost every new version (except by ME and Vista) was in some ways improved it never reached the performance and stability of a OSX system. Lot of “ hardware connoisseurs” can say wait a minute! Apple computers have better hardware, but this was true until some years ago. Nowadays, most of PCs have similar or even more powerful hardware.
Since the dawn of the information age, computers have developed into a very important part of society. They are increasingly being integrated with numerous aspects of human life, and have become a necessity in many college and business settings. Two major corporations that capitalize on this integration are Microsoft and Apple, and while they may appear identical, the difference between Microsoft’s Personal Computer and Apple’s Macintosh becomes much more apparent when affordability, variety, and vulnerability are considered. Ultimately, a PC is a better purchase than a Macintosh.
Yes, I was one of those PC people and I listened to you brag about Mac’s and iPhones. Well it took me several years. I thought you were right on everything but one thing. Mac, now way. Today, Mac all the way. This just proves it, you are right! Right on
This, of course, means competition, which in turn lowers prices. Macintosh systems are sold primarily sold in whole systems which are composed of RAM and processor speed, meaning that the consumer ends up with what Apple has decided should be included in the system. Windows systems, however, can be built to the consumer needs, or by the consumer themselves. They could select which part would be best for them for the price they would pay for it.
They also pride themselves in quality with attention to detail and top grade components. The customer support ranks the highest in all the personal computer market supporting software and hardware issues. The support has multiple options including chat, phone, and in store support. They also feature a easy to use operating system and no unwanted software making the operating system simple to use. They also don’t require you purchase security software since Mac’s do not get viruses making them more secure. That is just a couple benefits of the Mac over the PC and if you watch their commercials you find out so much more. The personal computer market is extremely large with around 75% of adults in the United States owning one(ExtremeTech). Apple has many competitors such as Lenovo, Dell, HP, ASUS and many more because anyone can make a PC that runs Windows. However only Apple can make a computer to run their operating system,
2. Reliability: Macs only run on Apple computers, and are thus less prone to hardware and software crashing.
Recently, Mac switched its central processing unit (CPU) to Intel creating a new competitive platform between the Macs and the PCs. Since the processors are now the same, the argument is: Macs are better than PCs as they can run their own operating system OS X as well as Microsoft’s operating systems XP &
The argument we often hear from PC users is that the cost of a Mac is too high and they can purchase a machine with the same power as a Mac for less. Although the cost of a Mac is relatively higher about 400-600 in the long run the higher cost and the value of the Mac will outweigh the pc. Lets take the new 27” IMac into consideration. First off the amount of pixels used is well above and beyond the HD quality of 1080p. To purchase another computer screen with this amount of pixilation will require a screen larger than 30” and with a price tag well above 1000 dollars. Secondly it ships with a wireless keyboard standard and with the new wireless multi touch mouse. The first desktop of any
Two operating systems currently dominate the smartphone market, Apple and Android. It all started six years ago when Google launched its android system. However, its approach was much different. Google had made just the software, not the device, giving the software free to phone makers to alter and adjust in anyway they pleased to fit their over 70 different phones. Google believed that by offering it free, in the long run would create more internet friendly phones and more ad views for Google. I think that this strategy was successful due to the fact that Android is the world’s most popular operating system loved by many smartphone users. My point here, that Android is the better operating system, than Apple, should interest those who are
The website is well organized, making it very simple to find what a person is looking for. Unlike Microsoft, it is well spaced, which helps to grab the reader’s attention. Microsoft’s homepage is setup fairly differently from Apple’s. Instead of having a main ad like Apple, its site has a set of highlights advertising their information. Highlights do not catch a reader’s attention as well as Apple’s large ad. Furthermore, Microsoft’s homepage is also packed with a lot of information in such little space. The information is broken down into bullet points, but the font is small and there are hardly any images to differentiate between the items. There is little to attract the reader to make him/her want to read through this content because it just appears to be boring. Therefore, the homepage of Apple and Microsoft differ.
For nearly twenty years, Apple computers have been the industry standard for creative industries such as publishing, advertising, digital music and video editing, and graphic design. Apple computer and peripheral products include Macbook and Macbook Pro laptops, iMac and Mac Pro desktops, as well a line of flat-panel displays and the
Despite this Mac has continued to gain popularity in the market. It 's programs have proved to be more stable than Windows, as a result of this hardware for the systems generally last longer as well. This is due to the fact that Mac systems have more features that monitor and regulate the activities, temperatures, and functions that can wear a system down faster. Mac computers also become known for their vivid aqua screen. Because of this many graphic designers, special effects editors, and even musicians have switched to using Mac computers. Even despite their price, which to this day remains higher than the competition, Mac still shares a steady part of the market and its popularity continues to grow. One of the biggest things that has kept Apple very competitive in the market is their version of the tablet. They have also developed the iPhone and the iPod. Apple was the first to not only create these devices but also they made these devices work with each other in a way that no other company has done with any of their devices before.
Just as you cannot judge a book by its cover, you cannot do the same when it comes to a computer. Both, Apple and Microsoft, have their very own separate operating windows. For Apple it is Mac for short. For Microsoft, it is called Windows. Both provide the same function, the ability to give commands and operate a computer. The difference between these two is that Mac is much known for its great coded scripts in its operating
