Marilyn Summers-Stephens HCA 340 Managing in Health & Human Services Instructor: Rhonda Travland June 25, 2012 I think the strategic mission should be revised. The Medical Center is in an older urban area with smaller shops and businesses. The community is trending towards a predominantly elder population. There has also been a decline in compliance with T.J.C. standards. Staffing supports new program development and the physician staff is in abundant supply. There are also major issues that need to be addressed, such as shortages in clinical staff, non-interfacing information technology systems, antiquated facilities and infrastructure, and a shift to its financial mix. Many entities outside of nursing are making initiatives to measure the quality and safety of the patient experience such as the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The CMS Partnership for Patients Program (PPP) is a group of over 8000 hospitals, representative of health care organizations, state governments, employers, and unions. Partnership for patients is focused on providing safer, more reliable and less costly hospital care. Other organizations such as not- for-profit groups focus on improving relationship between patients, families and health care professionals. The goal of enhancing this relationship is to ensure the provision of high quality care, delivery of safe care, reduction of the cost of care, and enhancement in the transition of care from provider to the next level of care. Alpine Village Clinic is located in a winter resort near the city of Aspen, Colorado. Although open year around, it is mostly a seasonal business since the bulk of patients seen at the clinic walk in during the winter months of December to March, when skiing is in full swing and pertaining injuries are common. The doctors thought about closing the clinic during the summer months, however running the clinic for a portion of the year is inefficient, and in addition, there seems to be a sufficient summer demand for the clinic’s services. The two doctors who run the clinic are Dr. James Peterson, who is an orthopedist and Dr. Amanda Cook, who is an internist. Dr. Cook usually handles all the financial work for the clinic (besides payroll
