Compassion and forgiveness are the themes that post-apocalyptic literature tends to put a minor emphasis throughout the stories. As the post-apocalyptic worlds described by the authors are usually focuses on the themes of violence, spirituality, isolation and most importantly survival. The both novels of the research implement the ideas of compassion and forgiveness differently. Miller points out in his novel that, whenever people start building up civilization based on science alone; unavoidable war and cultural collapse follows. Miller adamantly portrays the sin that human kind has committed which is the previous nuclear war, yet he emphasizes the idea that only fools would be unable to see the good in human nature, but as well as the bad …show more content…

The ability to feel compassionate and sorry for someone seems way out reach in this world, but the boy appears as the only saving grace in this forsaken place as he was send by the God as an a messenger. The man views his son as a God, a divine entity through the whole novel, and he may have been right to do so in given circumstances. World that has lost all faith to God and modern day sense of humanity and plunged themselves in the madness are not capable of showing the positive kind of emotions as in this case it should be impossible to care for anyone else except yourself under such conditions, but there are many places that proves that this world has some shred of humanity left. The boy constantly shows his compassion towards the others when they seem to be in danger and forgives them for possibly being one of the bad guys "What if that little boy doesnt have anybody to take care of him? he said.
