“Compassion in action” is one of my favorite quotes. If there is something I most like about myself, I would say it has to be my kindness. A big reason of myself being so kind is that I come from a very loving family. My mother always told me to treat others as I would like to be treated when I was growing up. “The golden rule” of being nice is something that is on my mind daily, and I try to share it with others. Of all of the traits about myself, being kind is most certainly one of my favorites.
When I am out in public, I often take other’s needs into consideration. As I was going through grade school, a lot of teachers told me that I was of the nicest students they have ever had. I am constantly thinking about others and their feelings. As I have grown up, I have also realized how much I enjoy giving what I have to others. I like to give my time. For example, I have gone to Haiti twice for mission trips. I also enjoy giving gifts, baked goods or, at the very least, a smile to others.

I am very hard working and motivated but I can also be very easygoing and a little funny. I tend to be very shy, but I try to push my personal boundaries and interact with others. Kindness is one of the ways I have learned to interact. Above all other things, I try to show everyone my kindness and compassion. Being nice is something I have been taught. I constantly try to show others kindness and compassion with hopes they will show others too. If I could only keep one of my traits, it would certainly be my
I believe anyone involved in the medical field needs the information about compassion fatigue due to its importance. It affects everyone involved in the health care field including all staff, patients, and even the organization itself. I believe not only the clinical staff but also the administrative staff should have yearly mandatory in-services on the subject of compassion fatigue. I also believe it is important for the board members to have all of the information on compassion fatigue, because organizational symptoms include high absenteeism, lack of vision for future of the company, negativism towards management, lack of flexibility among staff members, inability of staff to respect deadlines, inability of staff to complete assignments,
George Saunders and David Foster Wallace mention the importance of being kind to one another and the steps necessary in graduation speeches. Both writers state that acting in kindness, ultimately leads to new freedoms and creates an enlightened human being.
The “Attic Black-Figure Column Krater” depicts Dionysos the Wine God surrounded by various Satyrs and Maenads. The Satyrs and Maenads appear to be performing some kind of dance ritual, with Dionysos standing center. Dionysos, holding a drinking appeared rather relaxed compared to the others in the scene, it almost appears as if he was smiling at the Satyrs and Maenads. Ultimately, the subject matter of the painting on the vase showcases a joyous ritual with Dionysus and his follower Satyrs and Maenads. The subject matter of this vase infers that the Athenians were a festive people that enjoyed dance and wine.
. This exploratory study used a cross sectional survey method (Hopper, Craig, Janvir, Wetsel, Reimels, Anderson, Greenvilee & Clemson, 2010, p. 422). Compassion satisfaction and fatigue subscales were measured using the Professional Quality of Life, using ProQOL R-IV instrument (Hopper, et al. 2010, p. 423). Despite study limitations which were small sample size, authors concluded that recognising the signs and symptoms, and identifying best practice interventions and raising awareness, will lead to the development of ongoing support programs for hospital nurses (Hopper, et al., 2010, p. 427).
On the contrary, fewer years of experience has been determined to increase vulnerability to compassion fatigue (Sprang et al., 2007). Novice nurses and trainees are especially prone to compassion fatigue due to a lack of experience and unrealistic expectations. As Corey (2007) pointed out, beginner nurses are often faced with increased feelings of nervousness and stress due to initial job placements, and with disappointment when the positions do not meet their perceived notions of what they thought their career would be like. Many nurses must deal with the uncertainty of starting their careers and become aware of the organizational constraints set forth by their employers (Killian, 2008). Vredenburgh et al. (2009) concluded that younger and
Harr, and Moore (2011) explored the psychological effects of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction on social work students in field placement. To support their research, they conducted a study in 2007 and 2008 with BSW and MSW students in the field of social work, at public universities at the end of each semester. Students were then invited to participate in this study at the end of each semester. The results of this study discovered that these social worker students are more motivated and committed to the profession and have higher scores of compassions satisfaction than instrument average. Students' scores on risk for burnout also were higher than other helping professionals, their risk for compassion fatigue during the field experience
In module one, I found Eric Scalise’s lecture on “Managing the High Cost Care” very helpful, particularly when he discussed Compassion Fatigue. Compassion Fatigue, also referred to as secondary or vicarious trauma, is when is when a person has not experienced a traumatic event directly but are around individuals who have so frequently that they, themselves, are impacted emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and/or relationally. Secondary trauma can also happen to those who witness a traumatic event happening to others.
Compassion fatigue occurs when caregivers give all they can to their loved one, not realizing that they, too, need love and care. Taking time for yourself allows you to be a better caregiver, giving your loved one the care and focus they need.
First, I strive to be kind and patient with others. Although I am not always very patient, I try my best to be patient with everyone. Kindness is also something that is hard to do. I sometimes get very angry or frustrated and then it is especially hard. Either way, I have found that it benefits more people when someone is kind. Also, I am hardworking and I always put effort into whatever I am doing. I try
Compassion fatigue, also known as Vicarious Trauma (VT), is all about work-related, secondary exposure to extremely stressful events. Secondary exposure occurs when one is exposed to other people’s traumatic events as a result of work. If your work puts you directly in the path of danger, this is not secondary exposure; it is instead called primary exposure. Compassion fatigue is characterized by physical and psychological exhaustion resulting from excessive professional demands that drain available personal resources. The symptoms are usually rapid in onset and associated with a particular event.
“Your wealth or status doesn’t make you. Your kindness and character do.” -Yenkat Desireddy. Although you might think you need to be wealthy and have everything in the world to make others like you, people want to see what you are really like on the inside. You might not know it but with saying one thing or doing one nice thing to someone, can change their day around. They may be having a bad day, but you can help them change their day around and they will be happy and spread the kindness to others.
This essay examines compassion fatigue, including its causes and symptoms. The essay also considers the needs of caregivers and explores coping strategies and resources available to caregivers.
The purpose of this essay is to question the readers. Ascher wants the audience to analyze themselves to determine the reason behind why people show kindness, whether it is out of fear, pity, or compassion.
I can make a difference in the world by being kind to everyone at any circumstance. For example in the article, “The Science of Good Deeds” the author states, “"One study showed that when men felt loved by their wives, they were less likely to experience chest pain that might signal a heart attack." This just goes to show that being kind can benefit any person in a positive way. Additionally, “Angel in Disguise” shows us that being kind to someone can not only benefit the recipient, but it can also benefit yourself. Mrs. Thompson was selfish and cruel before she met Maggie, while she was taking care of Maggie her heart changed and she became less selfish. Furthermore, in the song “Hall of Fame, I learned that you can accomplish anything as long as you try. This proves that anything is possible, but it isn’t always easy to do.
Throughout college, the most valuable lesson that I have learned has been to live in a “culture of compassion,” a world that is respectful of people in from backgrounds and current circumstances. I first heard this phrase, “culture of compassion” during my freshman year in an Honors College seminar, called Art to Life. During this course, students participate in art therapy with participants who have Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. My participant’s name was Billie Jean, BJ for short. BJ is a woman that reminds me much of my grandmother, a woman who is romantic, dreamy, and traditional. Every Friday when BJ and I met for art therapy, we would talk about her memories and experiences, in addition to learning about her present self. Our
