Why we are doing this: This is a bridge from narrative to informative speaking where we use the entire speech preparation process but without the need for external research. In narrative speeches we simply relate a personal incident in the natural order of events as they occurred. However, I want you to spend most of your speech time talking to your audience without a visual aid. Introduction: The introduction must have an attention-getter that leads to your thesis, and a preview of each main point in the speech. You will then offer a transition statement to clearly indicate that you are moving from the introduction to the body of the speech. Keep the intro to about :30 seconds for this short of a speech. Conclusion: Your conclusion will contain a clear transition from your final point, a clear review of the main points you covered, and a final line that punctuates your thesis with a strong sense of graceful closure. No rambling, fading out, or abrupt endings! Delivery: Extemporaneous, with minimal dependence on notes. You should be making some improvements and developing your ability to overcome the natural tension of speech anxiety. Remember to rehearse with a checklist of delivery items and get feedback! I will be grading on improvements in eye contact, vocal quality (volume, variety/expressiveness, fluency...), posture/gesture/movement, (appearance if necessary), and use of space. Audience Analysis and Sensitivity: While I expect you to be intense and energetic in venting your complaint, you must also consider how audience members might react to your complaints. Of course there are always possibilities that you might offend someone inadvertently, but make every attempt to anticipate and alter potentially offensive
Finally, one of the main aspects that could have used improvement would be the introduction. The attention getter was not as effective as I had hoped it would be. It didn’t seem to grab anybody’s attention so the speech was already off to a not so great start. While the main topics were introduced it could have been done more effectively instead of just listing of the three main topics. My visual aid was the strongest part about my speech. I brought in the ingredients to make Tiramisu to show which brands I like to use for the recipe. I also prepared Tiramisu for the class as my hold interest technique. To relate the topic to the audience, I told them that they could make this recipe when they want to impress someone. My credibility was also convincing as I informed the class I had researched and compiled the best recipe. My introduction in general was concise and convinced the audience pay attention to the rest of my speech. I also thought my tone was conversational and not too formal.
In the informative speech, I didn’t many things that were admired and distracting during the speech, and I hope to improve on those distracting interrupting acts on my next speech. During the speech, I did some items that were a little distracting through the speech. As I watched my speech I noticed I had some awkward pauses, bad transitions, some um’s, and a little stuttering throughout the speech. If you look at the speech I tend to stutter which is a little distracting. Talking about the festival Diwali I talk about Rangoli and its colored pattern I stutter and forget what I am explaining. Another thing I could improve on is my transitions when hearing the speech, the transitions are a little rough and not as smooth. During the transition when I switch from talking about the celebrations to the language I say, “with all these celebrations it tends to bring many religions and languages together” doesn’t really make sense and could be spoken a little smoother. Stuttering is also a part of the speech I did during the speech which distracting. Throughout the speech, I stutter during different parts and one of those parts being when I am talking about the different traditions when eating Indian food. I say, “some of the traditions when people eat in India are well we all we eat on our hands,” which is a little annoying. During the speech, I also said um’s during the speech. When citing my source on languages I said some ums, repeating the citation from the notecard. During the speech I had a little tough time with stuttering at moments, saying some um’s, bad transitions, and some pauses in the future I tend to improve it for the next speech.
One of the things I noticed in my speech was how many times I looked at the screen. I didn’t realize how many times I looked at my prop until I watched myself on video. It was distracting and took away from what I was saying to my audience. Additionally, I feel like I could have improved speaking about the different experiments performed. I feel like they were rushed and I should have stuck to talking about only one or two experiments instead. With my time being rushed, I feel like I couldn’t explain as much of the experiments as I wanted to or as in depth. Lastly, I should have worked on the conclusion for my speech. I wasn’t able to come up with a good conclusion, so it felt as if I left some of the speech left hanging. I mentioned ethical issues performed in the experiments without actually going over it in the speech. Next time, I know I will come up with a solid ending and just wrapping up ideas I already went over in class. I know that for my persuasive speech, I will work on my eye contact, slowing down, and coming up with a solid ending.

I ensured whilst I made my presentation that I spoke clearly and steadily. I have a tendency to talk quickly so I paid particular attention to controlling the speed of my voice. I also ensured I maintained eye contact with my audience and tried not to focus just on one individual.
I have shown huge improvements on delivering speeches. This process helped me to understand different kinds of speech and their expectations. In terms of education, talk can be defined as everyday uses of spoken language and it refers to the act of both speaking and listening (Bearne, 1998). (Mercer, 1995)categorised talk in three ways; cumulative, disputational and exploratory. Cumulative talk is when pupils work together in pairs to gain a shared knowledge about a subject, disputational talk is mostly short controversial utterances in the form of a debate and exploratory helps people work together by using each other’s ideas critically. Mercer’s three categories of talk are examples of the types of talk that can be found in the classroom environment. This essay will consider will examine the importance of the talk in the classroom and the challenges of it, with specific reference to storytelling.
I am Alexander Ingram, student of Ozark Technical Community College. This is my third year as a student at this school. I am studying in the design and drafting program with possibly only two semesters for my degree after this one. One of the more important courses I am taking during my scholar at this school besides the Drafting classes is Public Speaking. I recently gave a self introduction speech at the head of the Public Speaking classroom. This course will not only help me see several places where I could improve but, also I will learn methods to improve and ways to better inform, deliver, and persuade as on personable speech and general speaking in public.
