A personal computer (PC) is any general-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and original sales price make it useful for individuals, and which is intended to be operated directly by an end-user with no intervening computer operator. PCs include any type of computer that is used in a "personal" manner. A personal computer may be a desktop computer, a laptop, a tablet PC, or a handheld PC (also called a palmtop). A keyboard has 26 letter keys (simulating the 26 letters of the alphabet) each with 2 types of character, upper case and lower case, use the Caps Lock button to move through each case. You can use shortcuts by using the keyboard, a certain combination of keys could activate a shortcut that has been programmed into the computer (CTRL + C for example is copy). Modern computers that are not laptops or Tablets have a mouse. A mouse is a round device that is designed to fit into the users hand comfortably. The mouse’s most important function is to control a pointer on the screen. With this you can control what happens on your computer. The mouse on a PC has 2 buttons, the left button is used to pick an object or a piece of text, the right button is to access a menu on whatever the pointer is on. MAC’s have only one button which controls everything the mouse does. Nowadays PC mice have a round segment between the 2 buttons. This is used to scroll down a piece of text easier. MAC’s are more advanced and use a ball on the top of the mouse. This is used for scrolling in any direction. This is useful for any documents in landscape form. Older mice also have a ball at the bottom of it which judges the pointer’s movement. The ball is connected to 2 wheels that detect movement and moves the pointer; however these balls were very sensitive and had to be cleaned every so often.
