“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson.
At school, in the computer class, when I first laid my hands over the computer and typed something, it was captivating and fun. It is that moment, I got acquainted with the computers and moved on with them. Whenever I got a chance to show my ability in computers, I took the chance and have shown my mettle. Every time I encounter the computer, it increased my creativity and logic.
As I have the habit of reading newspaper daily, it gave me a better exposure of latest inventions and discoveries by computer scientists as the new problem requires new solution where a cutting edge technology comes into picture making one’s life easier. For an instance,

Its mission is to be a World Class University providing value-based education, conducting interdisciplinary research in cutting edge technologies leading to sustainable socioeconomic development of the nation. It showed me a plethora of areas where computer science is used and how it functions to serve the society by providing solutions to contemporary issues. It provides the broad education necessary to understand and analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations and society. I came to know that computers are programmed to understand what the user inputs them.
I was exposed to the programming languages like C, C++ and JAVA. Whenever I was given a problem to solve, I used to write my own logic and challenge my friends. The joy of successful execution of my code stimulated my strength in Computer Science further. Apart from programming, I was also fascinated to know how the computers store large chunks of data and handle them. There I came to know the concepts of Data Base Management Systems, SQL. It was fun playing with the SQL queries and the labs unleashed a desire in me to excel at its
“No one is born fully-formed: it is through self-experience in the world that we become what we are.”
Hence upon completion of my 12th grade, I took up Computer Science and Engineering at the Sriguru Institute of Technology, India affiliated to Anna University which provided me the perfect platform for achieving academic excellence. In the course of my Undergraduation, my area of interest is C, Java, Computer Networks, Data Mining and Web Technologies. Studying aforementioned courses made my journey very interesting. Programming languages have given me the milieu to put theory into practice and have helped me keep my logical skills sharp and limpid. I did not limit myself to classroom learning but also explored various online courses. In this regard, I did several
“I can control my destiny, but not my fate. Destiny means there are opportunities to turn right or left, but fate is a one-way street. I believe we all have the choice as to whether we fulfil our destiny, but our fate is sealed.” (Coelho, Brainyquote.com).
When I was about sixteen, I ended up taking the GED in order to start college right away. I did that, but my younger self didn’t quite share the passion for education and self-improvement that I now have.
I remember the first time my father let me use his computer. It was the most insane day of my life! I could wire, deconstruct, and use a computer without any thought. I was enthusiastic, and anxious. I was a computer nerd. I had my mind set that this is what I was going to do with my life, however destiny had another
“Some survive because they are destined to, but most survive because they are determined to”.
I many times ask myself how I got to know about computer and every time a scene always flashes in my head. A 5 years old kid, asking his mom what was she doing with a big machine that shaped like a box, she told him it was a computer. Since that moment, he built up his curiosity about the strange thing called 'the computer', “What is a computer? What is use for? Can I eat it?”, he asked too much, up to the point his mom was annoyed everyday and one day she had to spend a whole day trying to explain him. Instantly, he felt his life is meant for this machine. Back when I was young, I only know some use of my mom’s computer such as reading news, playing simple games and watch videos. Though my mom did not want me to use the computer too many times in a day cause she afraid I will get addicted to it, I still had my way to stealthily use it (Honestly, now I start to think that I might use computer too much). Then, the time when I reached 8th grade, the time that has really changed my perspective. Every 8th grader in Vietnam has to take a computer science class and finishes it with an average score at least 6.5.It was quite easy at first because I have already had some basic knowledge of computer; moreover, my computer science teacher was great, he taught me many wonderful things that blew up my mind. He taught us about how important it is to have a computer and how it helps us in our daily lives. Fascinated by his
I still remember the day I first used the computer at my uncle’s house in the summer of 2000. I was just 8 years aged only. What a television-like object could do with the interaction of a keyboard amazed me. From that day, I believe, deep passion on computer grew inside me. A few years later, once I got acquainted with the internet, Computer Science became my most favorite topic. Being amazed by the power of the internet, I took a Web Development course after finishing high school. Since then I took Web Development seriously, indulged myself in it and decided to study Computer Science in university.
I am interested in this position out of the nessicity computer literacy has become for developing youth. Growing up, I had the privilege to cultivate an interest in computer programming and web development that I later turned into a certificate in Web Authoring. However, I understand how traditional literacy in school systems do not always accommodate computer literacy and I would love to be involved in helping develop that. My experience for this position academically includes courses in HTML and CSS, as courses in Word Press. In taking these courses I believe I would be best suited for this position as I appreciate the need for literacy in coding.
Technology changes rapidly in the cyber age, my hometown Shanghai is also a rapidly developing metropolitan and one of the best sources of high tech products in China. The advantageous environment evoked my affection in science subjects and always curious to seek new knowledge. Back to the days when I was in junior high school and the personal computers were still the mysterious machines in most people’s mind. I was lucky enough to be introduced into the edge of that binary world with a professional instructor - my uncle. At that time he was on vacation visiting us. After he discussed how wonderful the computers are with my father, then he started working on a computer right away from scratch and instructed us. In addition to my great affection in science and high tech, I was already attracted to this wonderful machine although back then I was only an adherent being around them. That event shaped my academic path, and now I choice to major in computer science because my persistence affection about computers and passions understand more deeply in this field. Maybe one day in future, I can master some remarkable and helpful techniques in information technology field.
With computers, we went to the moon. With computers, are revolutionizing communication. With computers, we will become a utopia. The greatest technology of the modern world is computers without a doubt. Because this is the case, there are multiple career variants in the field of computer science, ranging from analog to digital, offline to online, and structured to creative. Digital graphic designers, software developers, web developers, and hardware specialists are all intertwined in this open field that is computer science.
The beauty of computer science and computer engineering lies in the fact that even with the ever-increasing number of notions and innovations in the field, there does exist plenty of room for improvement and development, so the current can’t and won’t stop. This caught my eyes as a teenager and helped me realize the future and career that I would like to seek. A time when I first desired to change for the better and advance towards improving my abilities and expanding my limits, was when I was preparing for the entrance examinations of the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talents of Iran for both my junior high and high school. These schools are de facto the best schools all around the country, so you might speculate the level of competition in these schools and the sheer amount of exacting work required to finish in the top 10% of the students. During this time, actually I enjoyed working and studying Linux terminal coding and programming on my computer and I can’t forget the very first moment that a simple game I made started to work correctly.
Computers have become essential to how our society and social lives operate. Everything is compactly and neatly automated to form smooth flowing systems that allow for quick
I have always been fascinated by the field of computer science, and that led to me pursuing a degree in Computer Science from North Carolina State University (NCSU). While at NCSU I had the chance to work under a computer science professor and learn a great deal from him. As a result of my prior research experience I believe that I will be a perfect fit for this Research Experience. Research has been an essential part of my academic life, and doing research has both increased my critical thinking, and provided me with opportunities to learn, and effect a change. Doing research has helped me understand what to expect from a career in the computer science field, prepared me for a future in computer science. Last year and a half I have built a network of professional connects, and learned to solve difficult and complex problems, and I want to continue that with this Research Experience.
