When you are working in health and social care environment concerns might arise from specific incidents or emergencies. M3: Discuss health, safety or security concerns arising from a specific incident or emergency in a health or social care setting. In a health and social care setting such as a hospital there are many incidents and emergencies that can occur, as I have already discussed in my P4. One emergency I have chosen to discuss in further detail is in the case of a ‘fire’, and the health, safety and security concerns that could arise in this situation. In the case of a fire, standard procedures and priorities include the evacuation of all individuals inside the building, i.e. the hospital. There are many concerns that
Every room in a care home has potential hazards which can put everyone at risk. In the residents bedroom staff have to make sure there are no tripping hazards such as wires left on the floor, or magazines or newspapers left on the floor; they should be put away neatly so there is no risk of the residents falling over. This is a safety hazard as if a resident falls over it could lead to a potentially worse injury such as a broken bone. Staff should also make sure there are no cracks or dents in the floor because this could also cause the resident to trip over and injure themselves. Care workers should also not smoke inside a residents room, this could put the resident at risk because it could cause a fire and the resident could catch diseases and if the resident has asthma smoking could make it worse.

Nursing homes and assisted facility homes are all examples of long term care facilities. These facilities are usually targeting individuals who are of geriatric age or need around the clock care (mental health and physical health). The residents in these communities have access to individually-tailored levels of individual or group-centered activities, programs, and assistance whether it is with home or personal care. Long term care facilities are generally for those who are unable to manage independently in the community. Specific types of long-term services include nursing homes, hospice care, home health agencies, and residential care facilities. The goal of these programs is to make sure each patient has a safe and comforting environment

Seniors with breathing issues are not able to take in as much air into their lungs as they did prior to their breathing issues. Further, the air that they do take in is not processed as efficiently. In the end, this means there is less oxygen getting to the cells. Less oxygen means less energy.
Like other business, it is never been a pleasant experience to raise concerns and complaint. In fact it can be more challenging for service users to do so in health and social care setting, due to the nature of the service and the service users’ limitation. There are various reasons caused them of being reluctant to raise concerns and complaints.
Some of the factors that are affecting the quality of services for older people in residential care homes are: high level of job dissatisfaction and stress. The home atmosphere was also rated low by the residents Redfern, S (2002). The correlations between home atmosphere perceived by residents and their morale and mental health were low; Hannan, et al (2001) revealed that very little research is available on the links between workers’ perceptions of their jobs and quality of care provision and the morale or well-being of older people in continuing care settings.
Sometimes, elderly people, or those with disabilities, require round-the-clock care or treatment that their family members cannot provide. As such, their loved ones may make the difficult decision to move them into a nursing home or long-term facility. In doing so, most people believe that their family members will receive the compassionate care they need and deserve. Unfortunately, nursing home residents are often the victims of abuse or neglect at the hands of those who are meant to provide their care. By taking certain steps, however, people in Illinois, and elsewhere, may be able to protect their loved ones from nursing home neglect and abuse.
This was the second time coming back to the nursing home visit. I was excited that I get to chat with the resident again. My resident was eating breakfast when I walked into the room and she had no idea that I was coming back that day. I got very anxious because she might not want to be bothered, but I was wrong. She was very welcoming and happy that I came back to visit. We had long conversations about her life and new things that came up since the last time we met. I also did an assessment on my resident this time around since I was not able to during our last visit. I explained the whole process to her while doing the assessment and make sure she knows everything that I am doing. Compared to the first visit, I was much more comfortable.
